Title: Dead Game Shoutout
Post by: ServantofCygnus on March 03, 2013, 10:30:38 AM
This is a topic for the memories of the games that died out during development or was abandoned during its playability.
Some of mine:
Lego Universe- Joining a faction was one of the greatest things I'd ever achieved in my life
Rockman Online- The badass we missed out on because of capcom..
Hero108 Online- none of you probably ever heard about it but I loved it. Like 2 years ago "closing down to make the game much better and add more content". Present day...
Lucent Heart Online, H108 O, and other beanfun mmos: you probably don't know what beanfun is because they shut down all American sites and projects, and they're horrible for it

So.. Just express your shoutouts here. You can put ones other people have, it doesn't matter

Technically Rockman Online didn't shut down, it's only available in one of the Korean countries, and that's it. (Well, last I knew anyways)

I'll also shout out to Megaman Universe. A stage builder with possible dlc parts AND a Robot Master Builder? Capcom, that's practically one of my dreams come true, and you burned it :I

How about VB Mario Land (http://www.unseen64.net/2008/05/22/virtual-boy-mario-land-cancelled/) ?

This looked like it'd be a good game.

And with the 3DS, I thought Nintendo might pick up this concept again.

The only thing I can think of that I was really pissed that Nintendo cut is Kirby GCN. It would've been the only other game besides the Super Star series that helpers in the form of enemies would be playable.

Then they just gave us the multiple Kirby bullshit/main character romp in Return to Dreamland and it's not as cool and rrrrrrrrgh

From the looks of it, there seemed to be a lot done, but all of it's production switched over to Return to Dreamland, as evidenced by the presence of the Dedede robot.

Mario 128 also looked kind of cool but that's OK because we got Pikmin instead

Infiniminer. It was basically one of the games that inspired Minecraft. It was fun when I used to play it and it's a shame that it died. The cool thing about it was that it was competitive. You had to collect gold faster than the other team to win, there were four different classes, each specialized on doing different things, and it had a lot less lag than Minecraft. And it's free!

LEGO Universe went down due to lack of money.

Dang, that was a good one, too. Even though I couldn't progress to the next area where you could actually join a faction. (F2P huzzah)

I'm sure it couldn't have costed much out of their damned fortune to just leave it up until they had the money to keep it going.

Did you even see how many people threw an electronical riot that night?
I was practically crying when I got that GM jet pack.. ;-;

If you had bought the game (measly ten bucks kk) you might have saved us. Maybe they we that one donation away..

But not trying to make you feel guilty.
God damn that one magician/builder class, it was amazing as fuck
and also if you had a subscription by Dec. 31 you got your cash back and free 1 month (to Jan 31, when game shuts down) subscription

If you seriously do not enjoy playing as the multiple, ridiculously cute and awesome enemies as helpers in Kirby, and instead settle for THE MAGICAL RAINBOW COPYING MACHINE or playing as a flying Sword Knight, an obese Bonkers, or a Waddle Dee with a spear, then I weep for you.

Seriously, that's what made the Super Stars so fun.

I think he was saying He does not like the idea of main characters/multiple kirbys over enemy helpers for extra players.

He was not insulting the multiplayer.

Although I'm not a brony, I was aware that there was a fighting game in the works based on the MLP:FiM TV series, but got a C&D from Hasbro.
With the help of the brains behind the franchise, the game is being remade non-canonically.

City of Heroes and City of Villains were ones I remembered well.

I also miss Streets of Rage Remake. A job well done, that was.

After watching ProtonJon's playthrough of Superman 64, I remembered some really nice games that were canned. (Both of these Jon mentioned at the beginning of his Superman 64 videos). (You might also see a trend here regarding the aforementioned games.)

The first Being Sunman, an Nes game that was being developed featuring a super hero by the name of Sunman who protected Megalo City from the reaches of Spectre by using his Optic Beams, amazing strength, and flying ability. If you think this sounds familar to another hero, than you are right. Sunman was originally supposed to be a Superman game. For reasons unknown nobody know why the game was changed from a Superman game to something else or why it was never released. You can read more about it and see some gameplay in the spoiler below.

The second was a Playstation counterpart of Superman 64. However, unlike it's 64 counterpart, it would've not taken place in a virtual world but the real world. The game was more focused on puzzles and exploration instead of beating a specific goal and then flying through a ring stage. You would have all of Supe's powers from the start and and would feature items from the animated cartoon. This was being developed by Blue Sky Software (the company that developed the Vectorman games.) who originally were planing to port Superman 64 to the Playstaion but due to negative reviews, they scrapped that idea and instead try to develop this game instead. The game was almost completed but due to not losing the rights to Superman, arguments between Titus and Warner Brothers, and negative reviews, the game was canned. Gameplay footage in the spoiler below.

The last game I'm going to mention is the beta for Superman 64. Why am I mentioning the beta for this "game"? The reason being that the beta was a lot different from the actual game. I can't really explain it well, so I'll let the footage show you the differences between both versions.
