Title: MM8BDM SETUP GUIDE (Work in progress)
Post by: BEan on July 19, 2010, 08:31:15 PM
I started working on this guide on how to setup MM8BDM, because alot of my friends had a real hard time setting it up. I figured to let you guys have a hand in this. I got it win word .doc format, so you just need openoffice or anything to write to it. You may notice that some things are highlighted as reference, RED is for need more or something missing, Yellow is reference, light blue is for Pic place holder.

I would just like to hand this off and let somebody else pick it up so that I can get work on a server guide.

Center View            (not used)
Run               Shift, mouse4, or cntrl
Wut.... Run isn't used and I can tell you, Center View helps a lot.

unbind mouse2  (mouse 2 is not needed for MM8bDM. The default command shifts your mouse
But but... I like mouse2 to be Jump

I think it's a good idea if you explain what autoaim is and talk about the "Display options".

Anyway, a good tutorial for beginners.

Shift is the default setting for Run if you check the controls. Everyone has Autorun turned on, though, so there's no need to have a button to use it. It's just there.

The recommended controls are for that person is accustomed to source games like TF2, L4d, CS:S, etc.

I need somebody to write up stuff for doom seeker, MAC OSX, Linux install, linux server, etc. I haven't played with the auto aim stuff, so I can't really mention anything about it. At the very least I have it disabled on my server.

Because Doom didn't have free look  (looking up and down) it used auto aim. It aims vertically for you. That is all.

I guess that's my cue, huh?
Sure. I'll work on that for you in the next few days, as I get time. I might try to clean it up an organize it a little better as well.

I should be able to mostly use what I posted in my thread about installing it on Mac and just clean the info up a little and make it more clear and easily read.

You want me to download the file you posted and add my stuff, then repost it here?
Or just send you the stuff to add to it in a separate .doc file and let you add it yourself?

Seperate doc, since most likely they would be seperate guides.

Besides the links and pictures, I have put pretty much everything that I wanted to put into it. Could somebody give me a proofread. BTW you have to re-download the file.

A setup guide really isn't necessary if I can be honest here.  It's mindlessly easy to setup, even for total newbies.

You would be surprised.

Indeed. I think a video walk through would be handy, I know someone has done one already in spanish. I'd do one but my voice is kinda lame, especially for explaining instructions  :p

I had to talk one friend through the setup.  Some people are having problems with it.

Very nice, I do think there is a lot here. I would separate the controller guide, it not really necessary to run the game. I think what we are going to have to do is maybe take some parts from my guide and put them in to your and vise versa.

Everything looked pretty good as far as image quailty, I want to know is what tool did he use for video capture.  If we plan on doing a setup video I can do audio editing. Cutmanmike, what do you use for your videos as far as capturing.

also why did that guy included that 30 second intro?

For recording stuff on screen I would use Camtasia Studio. I used it previously but never found a use for it since then (it's also good for general video editing purpose though). For recording gameplay footage, Fraps is the way to go.

Do whatever you feel is necessary, you're free to use it as you like as long as I'm given credit.
I added the controller portion because it was a big issue with me and I thought maybe someone else would find it useful since not everyone can play well with keyboard and mouse.
I'm primarily a console gamer and I'm not big on using keyboard or mouse for anything if I can help it. Even when I got Fallout 3 running on my Mac a while back, I used an Xbox 360 remote because I was more comfortable.
The thing here is, those are Mac specific drivers and they work but are limited in what they can do. Someone else that just HAS to use a controller might find them useful, but for me their limitations ended up just forcing me to get used to keyboard and mouse anyway.
