Title: GVH: RE - Waiting for a bugfix, resume speculation!
Post by: CutmanMike on July 23, 2010, 10:39:41 AM
I haven't forgotten my Ghoul fans!

I was playing GVH for a while yesterday, and I came up with a rather nuts idea. Maybe it will make the gameplay a bit too mad but I'm almost sure people will like it. It is a small expansion (no new maps, classes etc) that will switch up the gameplay and playing style dramatically. It shouldn't even need a GVH core update.

If I can get it working easily, you should all be in for a treat! Only Mobius knows about it so far, and I will probably be dragging him in for the test sessions very soon.  ;)

Wish us luck, and begin speculation!

You should be able to make it work easily if you 'overwrite' the core files.

Eg. Putting a edited sjas.txt file into a "actors" folder in a new .pk3 - then loading that new .pk3 in after the main stuff.

Unless, of course. You're talking about making the modification 'work'. As in being enjoyable/'balanced'.

GOOD LUCK...

This is nothing to do with balance OR changing current actor definitions for balance etc (I would release a new update for that). This will add something new to the game and dramatically change the gameplay  ;)

Ok just a bit of status on this, Eruanna has taken a look at it and we may be getting somewhere now...

Sorry this is dragging on but hopefully it'll be worth it  ;)

It'd be kind of worth it. It's a little bone with meat on it.

It actually works! Kinda... There's a ST bug that I intend to report, but after that we should be a-ok.

Some more hints:

The idea is based of a popular rom hack of a certain game.
The title is GVH:RE.
It is designed to add a whole new depth, strategy and craziness to LMS.

A completely random guess: A turn-based strategy type of gameplay?

A popular hack of a certain game... God knows what KIND of game it is, or how old/new, i think this is a little too vague. :P
Ah well, hopefully it'll blow life into GVH, well, its still running like a train on servers, but the forums are rather dead.

Oh, I know. Is it Megaman vs Ghouls? Combining Cutties two most popular titles into one game.

Roll(Marine Replacement, why? Why not.)
Protoman(Hunter Replacement, with Charged Shots for normal arrows, Fireman,Elecman and Iceman weapons for the elemental arrows)
Bass(Cyborg replacement, and can fly with Treble Boost)
Megaman(Ghost Buster Replacement, due to "Copying" ghoul abilities)
Metalman(He's just screaming to replace the engineer.)

Many many other games that i have never heard about or i cant remember.

EDIT: something about morphing huh? maybe humans transform into ghouls? or maybe like, humans and ghouls can power up into something amzing

Meh, i find that Cutman's hints are too vague and have too many possibilities, or simply cheat (see: his "hints"/screenshots about the no longer so new class, santa, he cheated with a different projectile!). :P

Meh, random guess, paintball?
Or... The projectiles get grapically changed into... colourfull things. Yeah... Perhaps it is a graphics change... Meh, hopefully it is something good instead of just a trick. :P

Morphing huh? Well, about a week ago, I had this dream about a new gvh expansion. It was an expansion that allows the the humans and the ghouls to change into a more powerful form under certain conditions (what I saw was something like a evolution sphere). The ghouls would grow bigger and more powerful, and the humans would toughen up quite a bit and get some extra weapons. I dubbed it Gvh:Evolution (crappy name xd). If this is anything like that, then this would be cool.

Ah, when you showed us that snowgun screenshot, the projectile was entirely different from what it fires! Whatever the projectile came from, i guess. Basically made people assume that the projectile was shot by that gun, and it doesnt exactly look like snowball. :P

Hmm... Dont think everyone will understand the hints though, oh well, curious what it is.

Ah well. And from what i read on the front page, it has to do with morphing?

Hmm... Another guess, it involves morphing in order to increase resistance and weaknesses to damage types?

And i tried morping once, does work, but it makes everything very... Odd, if the thing you morph into is larger or smaller, apparently. Or the sprites just act odd, who knows.
Title: Re: GVH: RE - Waiting for a bugfix, resume speculation!
Post by: CarThief on August 13, 2010, 06:19:39 PM
Hmm... It does not involve map changes, class changes, additional maps, or any changes to GVH in general, what could it possibily be if classes wont get changed? Hmm...

Morphing seems hard to do without any changes to classes in the form of adding something to them, though i'd still say if someone can morph mid-game with a cooldown of sorts that would be interesting. If you need like a different ghoul or there's too many damned creepers and the humans are at an anti-creeper spot.

Hmm... And this addon thing wont touch the balance either? That probaly excludes morphing extending a class's abilities or power even more, only the above idea would still apply then.

All else i can think of is that possibily it'll gain some... New elements, like a new goal to battle for, maybe an powerfull artifact in enemy possession, maybe something like possession, maybe something as simple as powerups.

Well, more hints would be interesting. Hope ANYTHING for GVH comes out soon, i mean... Today the GVH servers seems dead so far. Its really starting to die off regarding frequency, cant find a damn TDM game at all! And they dont even have the decency to put up a competetive mode with respawning! Like CTF!! Simply disgracefull... People and their LMS or Coop.

Oh, speaking of addons, it would be nice if you made an optional GVH team balancer of sorts, Cutman. Maybe even make it with optional limitation on class spamming, an ideal way to make the game more interesting, with various classes to battle. That way people wont complain about JITTERRAPE!!!!!, sjas spam, marine spam, or any other spam. I recall AoW has a ability to limit some classes. Its probaly ACS heavy, and difficult, but not impossible if you´ve got time to waste. :P

Hmm... Wouldnt mind helping with testing or anything with this, if you're short on help. The ping to the UK is quite acceptable, i can even host stuff, and i got more time on my hands when im back from work then most people. :P

Aside that, i think i've tried every... Normal suggestion one can make, i bet its something really stupid, in a logical way. :P

Garr! It seems the bug is still in there. Other than this slight quirk where the game doesn't recognize you holding down the fire button (making the Hunter useless) sometimes, it's done though. Let's see if Torr can figure out the problem first.

It's a GvH/GTX merger.
Title: Re: GVH: RE - Waiting for a bugfix, resume speculation!
Post by: CarThief on August 21, 2010, 04:49:51 PM
And now what the hell is a GTX?

Besides that, this part of the forum is pretty muc 80% dead. The remaining 20% would be the people still interested enough to post about GVH, regardless of the lack of updates killing this part of the forums.

Then again... Hell, even i dont post alot anymore due to a massive lack of updates, all the keeps me coming back is hope for a possible update and utter boredom. Even the GVH servers tend to die off from time to time. They all switched to AoW and random game mod-- uh, cooperative servers.

Its dieing.

I was there when he said it, but I don't want to give it away if it is supposed to be secret. I don't know if I'd use it much though. Maybe for awkward moments of supreme randomness or to scare folks... can be strategic I guess.
