It’s summer, and that means it’s time for the Cutstuff Community to gather for events of all kinds. Last year, I brought to you a classic Duel tournament. While this tournament was a success, I feel that this year, given the current state of the community, it’s time to try something a whole lot bigger. An event of this scale has been attempted in the past and did fail. I come to you today with the promise that I will do everything in my own power to sustain this event through completion. As you know and will be covered, however, you, the participant, must also do your part to keep this event (or, rather, group of events) alive.
And so, I present to you…
The MM8BDM Olympic Games!
Yes, you read that right. The MM8BDM Olympics will consist of a variety of events for which individuals may sign up. There’s a lot to cover, so I’ll begin.
What are the MM8BDM Olympics?
The MM8BDM Olympics is designed to be a competitive series of events that reaches to almost every popular game mode. The point is that even those who dislike traditionally competitive modes like Duel and CTF may still participate (don’t worry, though, these modes will be featured as well). As such, participants may sign up for however many* or few events they wish!
How does it work?
These Olympics will operate quite differently from the previous attempt. Last time, players signed up for the competition as a whole, and were then groups into teams from which participants were selected for each event.
That isn’t really how the Olympics work, and so that’s not how this will work, either. Participants will sign up for any and all events in which they would like to participate. Events are divided into four overall categories: individual events, duo events, 3v3 events, and 5v5 events. When participants sign up for duo or team events, they will indicate their partners and/or teammates.
What are the technicalities?
Players sign up for all events in which they wish to participate in their sign-up post. In this post, players also specify their teammates. A participant may only be in one duo, one team of three, and one team of five. These duos/teams may then participate in the number of duo/team events of their choosing. Players who sign up without a team but wish to participate in team events have two options. They may organize themselves into teams with other players in the same situation, or they may subscribe for the Team Creator (TC). The TC will be a randomized system where individuals and duos may sign up to be randomly placed into teams of three or five based upon request.
The end product of the team-creation process will be a participant body consisting of individuals, duos, teams of five, and teams of three, with overlap. As such, there will be many kinds of winners in the Olympics, divided into three tiers:
Tier 3: Anyone who participates can win something here!
Gold Medal: Awarded to the player (and all players, in team/duo events) who wins the event.
Silver Medal: Awarded to the player (and all players, in team/duo events) who places second in an event.
Bronze Medal: Awarded to the player (and all players, in team/duo events) who places third in an event.
Tier 2: Players wishing to win here should max out their participation in one or more event categories!
Individual Winner: The participant with the highest Gold Medal-to-participation ratio in individual events.
Duo Winner: The duo with the highest Gold Medal-to-participation ratio in duo events.
Team of Three Winner: The team of three with the highest Gold Medal-to-participation ratio in 3v3 events.
Team of Five Winner: The team of five with the highest Gold Medal-to-participation ratio in 5v5 events.
Tier 1: Players wishing to win here should participate in the maximum 15 events! Only for the most devoted!
Best Medalist: The player with the most medals.
Gilded Man/Woman: The player with the most gold medals.
(Watch this space in the near future! Something cool may be said!)
Within each event category (of which there are four; individual, duo, 3v3, and 5v5), there is a minimum number of events in which you must participate to be eligible for Tier 2 awards.
Individual: 8
Duo: 6
3v3: 4
5v5: 3
Additionally, players may participate in no more than 27 events total. You may reduce your participation in any category of events should you wish to maximize your participation in more than one event category, but bear in mind that you will be ineligible for Tier 2 awards should you participate in fewer than the above minimums.
What are the events?
I’m certain you’re all dying to know in what events you may participate. So, without further ado:

Event Information: All you need to know, but please ask questions, too!
Very Important! Please notify of all conflicts you have, especially with Free-For-All events. If need be I can change the times for one or both groups of preliminary rounds in FFA events, but only if you let me know! Otherwise, clear your calendars!
**Note**
At times when I have servers to spare, I may put up some of the date-specific events that follow. If a server is BE and its name begins with *Olympics Official*, then that is an official server. No doubt people will try to create fake servers, but I won’t have access to those logs so they won’t do damage. But if you do do this, know that if I find out you’ll be out of the Olympics.
Following are more specific details on the events. Questions may be directed to me in any medium you please.
Individual Events
Duel
The Duel event will consist of two stages; a seeding phase and a bracket phase. In the seeding phase, each participant must duel every other participant in his seeding group on a map agreed upon by the fighters in a 5-frag duel. To me must be reported the results of all of these seeding duels.
The bracket phase will occur after the seeding phase; players will be seeded in the bracket based upon their performance in the seeding round.

Begin your seeding duels now!
Deathmatch
The Deathmatch Event will consist of two preliminary Deathmatch matches. The participant list will be divided randomly into two groups. Each group will compete in a 3-game match on MM8DUO. Players will keep frags from game to game. After theses three games, each group will have a top half (the3 or 4 individuals with the most frags in each group). This group of 7 will then compete in another 3-game match, this time on MM2DW1. This 3-game match, with frags accumulating, will decide the placing for this event.
Event Time:
Preliminary Rounds – Saturday, July 6th, 10:00 PM EST
Final Round – Saturday, July 13th, 8:30 PM EST
Last Man Standing
The Last Man Standing event will consist of two preliminary rounds; the participant list will be split into two groups of 10, both of which will compete on MM7SLA. The winlimit in these preliminary rounds will be 0. When a player acquires one win, he will spectate. The first 3 players to win each group will move on to the finals. The first player to three wins will win first place; the next two players will earn silver and bronze, respectively.
Event Time:
Preliminary Rounds – Saturday, July 6th, 8:30 PM EST
Final Round – Saturday, July 13th, 10:00 PM EST
Possession
The Possession event will consist of two preliminary rounds of two groups. These preliminary rounds will occur on MM3GEM. Once a player scores two points, he will spectate. The first 3 players to two points in each group will participate in the finals. The finals will take place on MM7DW1. The first player to two scores will win Gold. He will spectate, and the next two to win will win Silver and Bronze, respectively.
Event Time:
Preliminary Rounds – Friday, July 5th, 9:00 PM EST
Final Round – Immediately Afterward
MMSP Speed Runs
The MMSP Speed Runs event will take place on a server that will log completion times. All official runs must take place on the server, which will be hosted by BE and located in New York. The fastest time will win first place, and the subsequent two will win second and third. Only Mega Man may be used, and only the official release will be used (ie, not SiN). One server will be up for each of the four courses.
Event Time:
The servers will be up between July 18th and July 29th.
Break the Targets!
The Break the Targets individual event will take place on MM3NEE. Only runs on the official server will count. The fastest time will win Gold, and the subsequent two will win Silver and Bronze.
Event Time:
The server will be up between July 18th and July 29th.
Jousting
Bot Rush
The Bot Rush event will take place on a dedicated server. Only runs made on the server will count. All classes will be allowed. Note that prior to the event time, a release of KY Classes with corrected WCOLORS will be released. Until then, the most recent, unofficial version released is compatible with v3a so feel free to practice with it!
Event Time:
The server will be up between July 18th and July 29th.
Rage Roboenza
Duo Events
2v2 Classes Deathmatch
Each duo will face each other duo in one 20-frag deathmatch game in a map agreed upon mutually. Players need not stick with the same classes; contrarily, each game will follow the following draft pick system.
Duo 1 bans one class
Duo 2 bans one class
Duo 1 bans two classes
Duo 2 bans two classes
Duo 2 picks one class
Duo 1 picks two classes
Duo 2 picks a class
This is to provide each duo a chance to ban certain classes and counterpick, while staying as fair as I think I can make it. There are no limits as to how many times you may ban a certain class. Ties will be solved with a head-to-head, 20-frag match.
The following classes are completely banned from use in the event (they may not be used nor must they be banned in the draft pick)
Air Man
Charge Man
Guts Man
Enker
All Copy Weapon Classes
Duo MMSP Speed Runs
Duos will consist of one Mega Man and one Bass. Only runs made on the official servers will count. Due to only two teams competing, only one server will exist for this event.
Event Times:
The server will be up between July 18th and July 29th.
2v2 Team Last Man Standing
Each duo will face every other duo in a 3-game match on a mutually agreed-upon map, with 3 lives. The team with the most wins will win Gold. Ties will be decided by another head-to-head, 3-game match.
Event Time:
A server will be up from June 28th to July 3rd.
2v2 Team Deathmatch
Each duo will face every other duo in a 20-fraglimit match on a map agreed upon by both duos. The duo with the most wins will earn Gold. Ties will be decided by a head-to-head, 20-fraglimit game on a mutually agreed-upon map.
Event Time:
A server will be up from June 28th to July 3rd.
Cooperative Break the Targets!
The Cooperative Break the Targets event will take place on an official, dedicated server, on MM5DAR. Only runs on the server will count. The fastest time will earn Gold, and the subsequent two will earn Silver and Bronze.
Event Time:
The server will be up between July 18th and July 29th.
Team Events
All team events will feature and round-robin style contest. Each team will face every other team in one match on a match agreed upon by both teams. Non-vanilla maps must be unanimously agreed upon. The following give event-specific details as to the goal limit of each event.
Deathmatch: 3v3 – 30 frags; 5v5 – 40 frags
Last Man Standing: 3v3/5v5 – First to 3 wins on the map of choice
Capture the Flag: 3v3 – 3-point limit; 5v5 – 5-point limit
One-Flag Capture the Flag: 3v3 – 3-point limit
Team Possession: 3v3 – 3-score limit; 5v5 – 3-score limit
Mega Man Soccer: 3v3/5v5 – Most scores after 15 minutes
When time-specific events are not occurring, I will have servers up for these events, but they need not be played on these servers; note that these servers will be strictly vanilla. No matter what server you play on, I require score confirmation according to the original Olympic Games Rules.
Please join me and other Olympics participants for some classes Deathmatch in the BE server titled “MM8BDM Olympics Opening Server”. I will be there to answer questions.
Rules
Rules for particular events will be released closer to the event times, but the following are the ground rules for the MM8BDM Olympics:
1. I am the final authority on all matters in the Olympics. I will be an unbiased, nonparticipating third party. I reserve the right to make judgments on eligibility, ties, and other conflicts as they arise. I reserve the right to remove any participant from an event or the Olympics should I deem such an action appropriate. I do yield, however, not to change the following rules as you see them, with the exceptions noted in rules 6 and 8.
2. By breaking any of these rules, or any event-specific rules, you allow me the power to punish you as little or as much as I deem fit.
3. By signing up, you agree to both the following rules and you place your faith in me to produce appropriate event-specific rules.
4. By signing up, you are committing yourself to make every reasonable effort to complete the Olympic Games.
5. All official events will take place either on my own servers (powered by BE) or on servers I explicitly approve.
6. Glitch abuse and SR50 are permitted, however the use of outside software (such as Skullhack or aimbot) is not permitted.
*I do reserve the right to ban glitch that I deem overcentralizing or game-breaking.
7. In the event of connection problems during official events, the accepted protocol will be to wait as long as reasonably possible for the issues to disappear or be resolved. If the issues do not resolve, the protocol will be to suspend the event and contact me as soon as possible with all details.
8. If it comes to be required that players report scores or outcomes to me, I require verification by one of the following means:
-One participant from each side in team, one-on-one, or 2v2 events.
-Screenshot
-One participant from a side and one spectator
-Two spectators
*If I deem some other manner of reporting acceptable, it need not satisfy one of the above requirements.
9. Behaviour that I deem disruptive, grossly unsportsmanlike, and/or immature to the point of substantial impact is subject to rule 1.
10. By signing up, you agree to responsibly and vigilantly check your Cutstuff PMs and other forms of contact you provide for information regarding the Olympics.

Me: Know what would be exceptionally over the top yet strikingly appropriate
Me: If players/teams got intro themes in the later rounds like in Professional Wrestling
...
[2:09:35 AM] King Dumb: okay so say I say "everyone have themes"
[2:09:36 AM] King Dumb: then what
...
[2:10:02 AM] Communist Mage: Well
[2:10:07 AM] Communist Mage: We make an olympics sponsored music wad
[2:10:14 AM] Communist Mage: Every team/player can contribute 1 or 2 themes
...
[2:16:54 AM] Communist Mage: So KD, verdict on theme songs
[2:16:58 AM] Communist Mage: y/n/put to poll
[2:22:04 AM] King Dumb: n, I'm not going to make it official, you're free to get teams to do it though (you can use the thread if you want)
Thus, I have taken the liberty of starting a small sub-project. Send any .ogg files to me (either mediafire through cutmail or skype communist.mage) and I'll get them into a music pack and by that I mean I'll give them to Bikdark to make into a music pack. Hear your theme as your team strides into the arena!
[2:32:47 AM] Bikdark: Alright, ooooone last tiny little thing
[2:32:51 AM] Bikdark: fhsdofhsi wording pls
[2:32:57 AM] Bikdark: for any and all files
[2:33:01 AM] Bikdark: I don't want
[2:33:02 AM] Bikdark: to edit
[2:33:02 AM] Bikdark: fucking
[2:33:03 AM] Bikdark: anything
[2:33:13 AM] Communist Mage: I'll be sure to add that
[2:33:13 AM] Bikdark: edit it yourself, I'll compile it
[2:33:23 AM] Bikdark: as long as they get that shit done, I'll put in anything
We're gonna get a lot of themes if this takes off. :ugeek:
