We need a place to discuss movies, anime, TV shows, etc, that isn't Anything Goes. Though, it could be about 3-4 subforums inside Anything Goes.
There would be something like this.
1: Anything Goes Subforums
[Movie Discussion]
[Anime Discussion]
[TV Show Discussion] + [Cartoon Discussion] (subforumception)
2: Seperate Area
The core section would be general TV show discussion. EX: Mythbusters, Walker Texas Ranger.
It would have these as subforums.
[Movie Discussion]
[Anime Discussion]
[Cartoon Discussion]
-
Oh, that was shorter than I thought I'd make it.
.. Uh, yeah, this would be nice to see.
-
I'm kind of in favor of a Movie section and a TV section, but Anime and Cartoons as different seems a bit extraneous. Basically, I think Option 1 should have Anime and TV in the same thing, as I don't think Japanese stuff really requires its own subforum.
-
Why should it not be Anything Goes?
We don't even have a single thread that is consistently about movies or tv shows, so I don't see a reason to make an entire sub-forum about it, even less multiple ones. Nor is Anything Goes filled with dead threads about that, either.
A "What are you watching right now?" thread would probably be enough. A whole sub-forum? It will probably end up being very under-used And multiple sub-forums is just really too much.
-
I agree with Alice, I doubt there will be enough active topics to warrant entire subforums dedicated to this.
-
I could understand having one, but definitely not three.
-
We could just have a general media discussion instead of only having a general game discussion.
Maybe make that a subforum???
-
Like a General Gaming Thread, that should work.
-
I rarely if ever see concentrated discussion over a single TV series, movie, animated short, or anything not game related. Judging purely by how much people talk about it, it would make more sense to have a subforum dedicated to SmashBroPlusB Discussion rather than Media Discussion... and that's saying a lot.
-
They're all divided because with all the things per what it is, it'd create a massive amount of posts in one place, but mostly we're only looking for anime discussions.
Even the general gaming discussion doesn't get alot of use with every single thread it has.
-
What if I don't care for most anime but like discussing cartoons and stuff?

what he said

Could probably fuse all of them into one single thing, but at least have an anime+manga subforum in it. Doesn't feel right to see Adventure Time right next to Fullmetal Alchemist.
Oh, and add books to the mix because some people here read books but it's not like many do read books but some people like to read books, I don't actually read books that much but some people do and those people are pretty cool so it'd be nice to have something about books for those people who read books.
-
Books might be taking it too far in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the majority of the forum watches TV and some movies, but dedicating an entire forum to something that very few people read? I know *Alice likes to read and I myself read mystery novels, but I doubt we could get enough discussion to warrant a subforum. Unlike movies, most people don't read books in one sitting, so everybody will have to spoiler every little comment in order to protect that one guy (not the forum member) from any little thing that might provide a clue the author didn't intend to give to the reader at a certain point in the story. If there's an active thread with new posts about a book I'm reading, I tend to jump in to the discussion and post thinking the book might lose hype if I take the time to finish reading. In this way, I might ruin my own experience for the book. And while most probably won't do that, I can nearly guarantee you that people will do that and then flood CutmanMike with complaints of how others ruined their respective reading experiences.

I didn't say "make a book subforum." I said "book discussion threads are open in the main area"
Although, it would be better to take a spin on what Alice suggested, just with books, although I feel that it already exists somewhere. It'd be a better option for the books.
A "What are you watching right now?" thread would probably be enough. A whole sub-forum? It will probably end up being very under-used And multiple sub-forums is just really too much.
Entering a discussion area of something and being spoiled of the experience is usually your fault. I risk running into spoilers by entering the Megaman Unlimited thread.
-
My point is that books are spoiled more often than nearly anything else. Books are also much more common to the general public than Megaman Unlimited. Those users that join, post in one book thread, and then proceed to never come back are those that are most likely to complain to CutmanMike about a website they'll never use again.

HOLY CRAP, THANKS FOR REMINDING ME.
BREAKING BAD SEASON 5 EPISODE 9 IS TONIGHT.
GET HYPED.
Also, a subforum just for media discussion seems pointless, seeing as how there isn't a whole lot of people talking about books, tv, or manga/anime. The music thread, which has been in the WWW board for a long time, is still doing fine even to this day.
-
To conclude on this topic, I started a "What are you watching" thread in anything goes. I imagine that will be more than enough for this community.
-
Like as you said, unless it proves to deserve it's own forum for direct discussion of a series, it'l probably stay in there.
