Title: Project AM2R-Another Metroid 2 Remake
Post by: ZeStopper on September 14, 2013, 01:29:44 AM

So, it's another Metroid 2 Remake (I have no idea where the first is, so don't ask) that changes the game completely!

The basic formula of Metroid 2: The Return of Samus is still very much in use by the creator, Doctor M64, but it adds new areas, Super Metroid esque Graphics, Controller Support (Xbox I guess), maps, and even more deadlier metroids!

AM2R is a worthwhile project that the dedicated Metroid fan should check out!
It's currently in Demon v.1.2.1 and for free!

Title: This is the time I try to look intelligent

I was wondering when someone was going to make a topic about this game.
It's been in development for years and I've been following it since like year two. I've been playing the demos and such eagerly awaiting its completion...I'm starting to sound like a stalker, so I'm going to stop with that.

But...this game is being brilliantly put together. The recreation of Metroid II could not have asked for a better team to run it unless it were Nintendo themselves...even then it probably wouldn't hold the same feelings this game can give you...

For instance, the large factor of immersion this game holds can astonish anyone. There is a point where a certain event happens and it's definitely not something anyone would see coming, especially considering this is supposed to be a remake that is very loyal to the original in nearly every way up to that point...surprises from unexpected locations that actually do not feel shoehorned in.

All in all, this is a really amazing project that deserves every bit of attention it gains.

Interesting. I never got into metroid 2 so would it be worth just booting this up instead?

Absolutely.

I had a blast while playing it, personally.

I'd like to bump this topic to remind everyone to give this fangame a chance if they haven't. Despite being a demo, it's probably one of the best fangames I've ever had the delight to play. Everything feels so right.

Please, do yourself a favor and try the AM2R v1.34 demo (http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/p/am2r-demo-133.html). And whenever a next demo comes out, try that out as well.

R.I.P. AM2R

The full game has been made unavailable on the blog due to Nintendo's use of legal techniques.
I can't post any links for download because I don't want a near perfect record ruined because I posted something "illegal" so I advise you guys to just look around in the *right* places.

That being said, the creator of the game has expressed interest in continuing development to fix bugs and whatnot.
He has not mentioned what he'll do about releasing said updates, but pay attention to his Twitter, I suppose.

Project AM2R wasn't itself hit by a Cease & Desist letter from Nintendo (stop all activity related to it), but rather the sites hosting the file that contained the game were hit with DMCA takedowns (stop distribution of it). As such, development of AM2R isn't stopping for now, just that certain sites have been legally abided to not distribute it.

It's on the internet, it's pretty much up and available if you know where to look and who to ask, highly recommend that you do.
