Title: General Advice Thread
Post by: Tengu on September 30, 2013, 03:25:55 PM
Ever need some insight on something but you're too lame to figure out a solution for yourself? Yeah, that's me sometimes.

I figure it might not be a bad idea to have a thread where you can just ask "Hey, could someone give me a suggestion for this?" Or "What do you think about this?" I think it's just a good thing to have for things and things and such.

Yeah I have something I need help with right now!

I ran over a cat with my car and I have no idea how to go about dealing with it! I'm mortified right now

Just apologize and pay whatever you have to, I guess.

Find the owner and then proceed to give it a Viking Funeral-

Burn it's body on a raft in a river leading to the sea.

Katman ven Caterman was a great Viking, stealing from the rich and sharing with the poor.
He made great meals and was everyone's friend. May his soul rest in peace.

Try going door to door to see if anyone lost a cat, and then...well, break the news.

But what if more than one person has lost a cat?

Make sure you're talking about the same feline?

I called Animal Control and I guess it didn't end up belonging to anyone

Well at least you didn't hit a cat that belonged to someone, that's good.

Soooooooo um, i need some help

how do you tell a friend that they are being a bit of a jerk? a friend of mine has been feeling down and negative lately and they wont say a thing about whats going on so its be kind of worrying me a little. at first i thought "hmmm maybe they're having a bit of a hard time and need to be alone for a bit who knows."

though now theyre being quite rude and are being a bit selfish and saying some sorta unhealthy stuff (e.g. viewing everyone as "corrupt" and wanting to "cleanse" the world of "filth") and are being a bit toxic to be around with. (i mean heck theyve been doing things around me that ive repeadedly told them makes me uncomfortable)

should i wait a bit and see if they feel better or should i be outright blunt about my friend's behavior?

Just give them some space until they cool down, then go talk to them again. Try not to ask about what that person was having problems with. If they want to get it out of their chest, they'll do it themselves. Just be there to listen if they do, and don't judge them since anything can happen to anybody. In the case they insist on being rude or some shit, just don't be the same as them. Show them that you're civilized and level headed, and that will put them to shame harder than any insult.

This is the most important piece, I think, and advice I generally stand by in pretty much any situation.
