This is probably the first thing I've ever truly put effort into writing, my only other real experience with stories being various english projects.  And even then, I can't quite put a lot of effort into a story I don't care about.  Let me know if I can improve in any way so I can actually improve.

A writing-based equivalent to 'anyone's art thread'? This seems right up my alley. I've been exercising my narrative ability recently, so I've got several things to potentially post at a later date.

In the meantime, I was bored, so I wrote up a paragraph related to MM8BDM; it's based on my experience in the unfinished MM8BDM Olympic Games.

Does this count?! Ah hell, I'm counting it! So I write this comic that I do. S'called Cloudscratcher. It's designed to feel like a 90's animated feature/series, complete with Disney-esque anthropomorphic characters, plucky young protagonists, and a pervasive feeling of ADVENTUUUUUURE!!!! So here's some excerpts...

And this Saturday the current chapter comes to an end with a scene that's one of my favorites I've written. I'll probably share it because I'm all proud and stuff.

I'm a little muffed over the quality of the art in the older pages, but that's why I'm remastering them for the book that I'll be selling!

WARNING
THIS IS THE PART WHERE SMASH WRITES SHIT
WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY TL;DR USAGE THAT RESULTS IN PERSONAL INJURY

After about 12 minutes of reminiscing about the past and laughing my dick off in the process, I have decided to write Guild Quest as my 50K death march for the National Novelist Writing Month. Or, as it's more commonly known as, NaNo. Basically the idea is that you write approximately 1700 words each day for thirty days, and by the time you're done you'll have a fat-ass book capable of making J.R.R. Tolkien jealous. Oh yeah, if you hit the goal in time and send in the file containing your story, they'll print and bind five hardcover copies of it and send 'em to you, for free. Swaglicious.

Anyway, Guild Quest started life as a somewhat serious piece of a game I slapped together in RPG Maker VX Ace. I made it in an attempt to understand Ace's systems and familiarize myself with the new Database and the Paramters system, before I started work on my main project (that's been WIP for yeeeears and still hasn't seen the light of a first beta), Sanctuary. The idea of the game was that you'd take missions to advance the game instead of going to new areas (sort of like the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game), except that missions could change the layout of dungeons or open up alternate paths. It's the same dungeon every time, so you still get puzzles and stuff that makes each area memorable, but there are little differences to keep things still somewhat new.

You play as Kenrec, a seasoned veteran of The Guild who somehow got his Levels reset in a freak magic accident, along with his girlfriend Ylvette, who wanted to join The Guild for a while (against Kenrec's wishes, on the grounds that "she'd get hurt" and it would be his fault) but finally got in when Kenrec's Levels reset (and he couldn't justify "being able to defend her"). There were a few supporting characters, such as Austin (Kenrec's original partner and an old friend, who often acts on an impulse -- leading to his infamous "box o' swords") and Malouette (a creepy holomancer who's trying to tempt Kenrec away from Ylvette (BONUS POINTS -- I stole her name for my Zubat-turned-Crobat in Pokemon XD)) but for the most part the cast was somewhat small. It allowed for more in-depth character development, ensuring even insignificant background characters were still somewhat memorable.

Fast-forward a little bit to when my sister had the dumb idea of making her own text-based roleplay adventure based on the traditional RPG genre. We got to talking a bit and eventually decided to retool Guild Quest into the subject of the RP. Austin got promoted to a Moderator, having his own taglines like "Join The Guild! It's so fun!" and "Yo, check out my box o' swords!" which helped him become a favorite among the group of RPers we had. The original Guild Master, Vilrich, had a complete turn-around in personality; instead of the serious, grisled veteran he was in VX Ace's Guild Quest, he became a happy-go-lucky animal of a man whose favorite activities included carousing at the local tavern and shoving golems down mountains when they weren't looking. On the other hand, Kenrec and Ylvette faded away to mere footnotes, forgotten in favor of the new recruits. Also, my semi-original character, Jasper the ghost girl, got fleshed out a bit more and became Jasper Whysp the Guild Master, running things alongside Vilrich.

It turns out it wasn't such a dumb idea after all. I have to admit, this is undeniably the one event that got me into RPing. It was damn fun and I was always looking forward to reading through new posts. Unfortunately though, it's always the best things in life that have to end early; one of the group members stopped posting due to IRL complications, and another member stopped posting because they "couldn't post" without the first person, and that their characters "depended on" whatever would result from first person's next post. This ended up making a nasty snowball effect that shut down over half the damn RP, and when things finally got up and running again most of everyone else already moved on and left. Even as a spectacular failure, "The Guild" still remains without a doubt the single largest running gag slash inside joke among some of my friends (and my sister). Even today, we still bring up situations which get followed by "what if Vilrich did that", or talk about how certain days are treated around The Guild (like Jasper's birthday, for starters... that one's almost a joke in itself). After being persuaded by my sister to join NaNo this year after a three-year absence from the event, registering on the website, and looking over the writing categories, it was inevitable that I would be writing the great follow-up to Guild Quest. Even just looking at it... Fantasy Comedy. It even said it on the tin.

Well, enough of my rambling. I don't really feel comfortable posting an excerpt from the story quiiiite yet, due to the fact that it's mostly exposition to establish the new protagonist, Merillion Chauer, so instead I took these old posts and put them here instead. Jasper's bits were written by my sister (hence the grammatical errors *twitch*); I ended up handing my main man Vilrich. They establish both Guild Masters' personalities pretty well, and have a couple of lines that are always being thrown around by the old Guild Quest group (the socks one in particular is always a favorite, much to my chagrin).

Basically, because of siege the timeline is forced to split after CSW 1 (and a little into 2) and that's something else.

I can timeline my own stories rather easily however, because it's all numbered anyway.

CSW1- CSW2- Lengthy Break of Nothing- Island Survival 1-3- Cutstuff Adventure
And the Robot Blathers Marathon is in its own little world.

Whoops, sorry! I've been outta the loop for a while. Anywho, what this topic really needs is critique/comments on other's stuff. Folks should at least try to give a comment/critique once every time they post somethin' themselves, or at the very least have some sort of incentive.

I kinda want to start this up too but some people might critique too harshly, shutting down potential writers and making them not want to write anything ever again
or some people might critique too softly and the writers might keep doing annoying things

also we're not exactly a forum game
where you comment on the person above's writings
because of the aforementioned reasons
and a situation where people are barred from posting twice in a row until some other people put up their stuff would be really fucking dumb

but yeah it'd be nice if something like that happened
not sure how you could give an incentive for that sort of thing, though

anyways I found a Writing Resource (you folks better start finding some of those too)
Kitten's Writer's Block Resource Master Post (http://nerdsandnicotine.tumblr.com/post/56943058490/kittenwrites1x1-writers-block-resource-master) {original post(er) was either removed or is not visible to non-tumblr-ers, I dunno}
basically someone made up a scenario where you read something really great and you want to write but you're stuck and don't know how what to write
and so there's some things you can do to get rid of that writer's block
like listening to Background Noise, Music, getting some Visual Stimulation, etc

go check out the link or something

[3:43:47 PM] Smash Bro: stroke my ego while also shutting Musashi up
[3:43:50 PM] Smash Bro: win-win scenario

Well ok then.

I have generally found to enjoy the writing style that Smash tends to have. It tends to hold a large array of continuity which helps add to the ever expanding universe that seems to always exist. Connections made with other locations he created merges all of his new realities with his old ones which helps build his imaginary realm into a larger universe.

If they can't take harsh critique, they wouldn't survive as a writer anyway.

or some people might critique too softly and the writers might keep doing annoying things

also we're not exactly a forum game
where you comment on the person above's writings
because of the aforementioned reasons

Well, I kinda want everybody to be as harsh as possible if they want to critique my writing. I'll take those reasons so I can actually improve my writing skills.

Actually, a personal goal of mine is to be crowned with the title of 'The Modern Stephen King' or something (btw, Stephen King kicks ass!)

But, still, I've noticed some stuff though too, like  the repetitive repeating of ServBot jumped and ServBot landed on his ServBot feet using his ServBot skills.

If they can't take harsh critique, they wouldn't survive as a writer anyway.
Agree'd. Let's look at map makin' for a moment. Every map is like a piece of literature. Would ya really give out an extreme sugar-coat'd comment about kirbysonic's Elevator Duel? How about omegazerox's maps as well? One way or another, if ya can't take criticism, that's like tryin' to gain without pain.

I can write stuff too.
So today I got this cool idea to write fanfic about MM8BDM while in Classes TLMS. I decided to put the idea to work and wrote this up in about half an hour.
All of the real people in this story are used with permission (except Michael but I just mentioned him). I'll probably continue it, so if you want me to be written in, tell me. Just need to know what class you want to be portrayed as (doubles are fine) and a different name if you want it.

Here is an attempt to write about the world looking at it from the big picture, all angles no biases, no leaning to the right, no leaning to the left..

Nothing Cutstuff related in particular. I was discussing how the world was messed up with a couple friends on Skype chat, and ended up trying to write a solution to how we might fix the flaws. In the end it wasn't a solution, but an observation instead.

Colonel Servbot SEASON 1
EPISODE 0: A NEW HOMEtotally not a starwars reference or anything

Spoilers since it's kinda long. This is basically an intro to the world of CutStuff. Or atleast the CutStuff that is seen through Colonels eyes... Err... Eye. Either way, basically foreshadowing the new plot line that's about to comeout. Also, our guest LeoAlex50 DID agree to be in this, but he agreed to it long before I left. Atleast I finished it up, revised it a little, and posted it now.
(click to show/hide)
FunFact: The 8BDM Tourneys weren't even originally going to be IN the story plot line, just more gang and faction related shenanigans. Good thing I changed it though, jeez, Jex, or whatever his name was, was starting to be a little pain in my ServButt.

A mistake triggering cataclysm,
One only I could make.

Violently shoved to the side,
Bones breaking under pressure.

Intricate and delicate machines I have built,
Obliterated by a shockwave.

Tender flames licked my cheek,
Leaving charred flesh in their wake.

No more feeling in my arm,
No more skin to damage.

Smoke obscured my vision,
Gently pouring down my throat.

Through technology,

Because everyone has Slumped and/or knows about "The Adventures of Dr. Clyde von Belmont" (sarcasm)
Now that I've rediscovered this thread (oops) I suppose I can start putting more CS product information down, this time with more safety. (RIP original thread I was dumb and didn't save most of you)

Here's a revised/slight edit of what's in my pack. I'll get around to writing more sometime.

CAPITAL SCIENCE PRODUCT DESIGN

Let's hope this time they won't be erased by silly topic clearing forum rules.
I'll add more as time goes on.

Inventions are categorized into CS(letter)##, where CS stands for Capital Science, the letter is the "product line" which changes by the season, and ## is the number, scaling up to 99. 00 can exist, however, that is usually left to be the most important invention in the line with it only being distributed once- to Clyde himself. Listed below (and in the future) are various inventions that have begun distribution across the people of the world. Unless requested to see my horrible MSpaint skills, images will not be displayed.

CSA00: The Diplomat
Category: Object
Description: Ah yes, my elegant cane. I'm not sure why I need to write a description for something that isn't being distributed, but I suppose it's a good chance to warm up for the future products. My cane, coupled with Capital Punishment (My whip, for the uninformed) are the single most powerful tools at my disposal. This cane holds an orb at the top which, when flipped open, holds a chip containing three slots. Every invention made at Capital Science has a special token made alongside it. At the press of a button, I am able to bring forth any invention I please, provided its token is in one of the slots.

CSA01: The Pentus
Category: Animal/Object
Description: We were having an office party one evening when someone thought it was funny to bring in a penguin- Patty the Penguin. You know, that penguin that kids always obsess about and want for Christmas except their parents aren't stupid enough to give their kids a penguin. (That's probably because their parents are too high smoking those chocolate candy canes but don't tell them I said anything) Anyways, the penguin and I grew a strong bond. The manliest Man x Penguin bond that could ever exist; Mr. Popper had nothing on this. I had to tend to Alice, so I left the party for awhile. When I got back, the penguin was gone. Zip. Zoop. Not there. I asked around, finally finding some answers. It had been infused with a cactus.. It stared at my soul, just screaming through to it. My soul screamed and it stared into my soul's soul, then the soul's soul's soul. Patty now resides as the resident doorstopper.

CSA02: Inverted Pencil
Category: Object
Description: Screwing up is a part of the human goal in life. We screw up to get better at screwing up. Naturally, we want a way to get rid of our screw-ups before anyone notices. Thanks to the power of the Holy Cucumber of St. Marie (Thanks Mystic Arts) I present to you the Inverted Pencil. Do you screw up so often that you have nothing to contribute to society? Then this is the perfect gift for you! Use the power of sharpening technology to sharpen the eraser and prolong the madness. If you lack the power of sharpening technology, head on down to your local highschool and bother that one kid who lends out pencils; I'm sure he'll do it for you. The only drawing part that exists on this thing is at the end- where the eraser usually is. That's right, sharpening this pencil extends the eraser, allowing you to screw up all over the place!

CSA03: Jack's Grow
Category: Medical/Object
Description: Is Aunt Helen giving you the lip? Do you, say, like revenge? No? Well, how about petting a cat with a mustache? Yes? You like that? Good. Have some Jack's Grow- the first instant hair growth that can be applied anywhere and to whoever you want without consequences. Too ashamed to take off your shirt because you aren't strutting down the street in a bowler hat? Bam! Your chest now has hair, regardless of your gender. Gotta grow a Chia pet? Apply this stuff directly to the seed and watch it pop more hair than you know where! Unfortunately we currently lack a removal tool, so do be careful on where you place it. I really don't want to call the hospital just because you decided to give Aunt Helen some sweet revenge. Better yet, how about YOU go contact the hospital. Just don't tell them we were involved, tell them.. uh.. hormones and stuff. Yea that's it. Hormones.

CSA04: The Nova Pack
Category: Object
Description: Alright so here's the deal: You strap this on your back. You go up, down, left, right, diagonal, forward r, and possibly a stronger up tilt. Ruin some kid's first goldfish experience by strapping that fishbowl helmet onto your face, patting the child gently on the forehead apologizing for the loss. If you lack both a van and a mustache, you should probably give them candy to make up for it. Throw on that large smile and hit the button; you're now approaching the atmosphere abs first at speeds of mach 3 or mach 5. (Speeds vary depending on weight, with heavier people going faster because cannonballs are great) Pass Mr. Jetson's Skyline. Screw the space program, you ARE the space program. Now you're floating in space- open up a bag of chips and enjoy the zero gravity. When you're tired of being space, head home and write a best selling novel that wins awards for best selling fanfiction. Those fanboys are going to be so jealous.

CSA05: Toasty-O's
Category: Food
Description: Have you ever woken up at 5am and just sat there thinking about what to have for breakfast in 3 hours? You don't know, so you just head back to sleep. 3 hours later and one dead broken alarm clock, you head to the kitchen to find out that you're out of food. How did this happen? We don't know, you're the adult here. You dapperize yourself and head on down to the grocery store to grab the grub but, plot twist, they're closed because it's a holiday. You head back home disappointed and turn on the TV. You see this ad. You learn of the greatest Toast Cereal combination known to humanity. You run back to the store and do a backflip through the glass, rushing to the cereal aisle. You trigger the alarm along the way but who cares, it's time to eat some cereal. You bust open a box and take a bite, moaning over the delicious taste of a balanced breakfast. In retrospect, was breaking and entering worth it? Yes. Yes it was.
