Title: mario 8 bit deathmatch
Post by: ice on November 03, 2013, 08:37:35 PM
I've decided a while ago to reboot ssw's idea and made a mod that revolves around the mario games. Scince I have a ton of free time, I can do most of the work myself but I still need some help with things

Progress:
Skins:
Smw koopa troopa : done
Mario: need permition, otherwise I need to make one
Goomba: in progress
Bowser: need permition
Birdo: need permition
Shyguy: not started
Toad: not started
Peach: need permition
Hammer bro: not started
Yoshi: need permition
Sledgebro: not started
More to come

Weapons:
Fire flower: done
Raddish weapons: done
Frog suit: done
Raccoon tail: not started
Tanooki suit: not started
Hammer suit: in progress
Magic cape: not started
Ice flower: done
Penguin suit: in progress
More to come

Stages:
World 1-1: demo made but not deathmatch worthy
World 1-2: not started ( unless mr.x wants to donate his)
World 2-2: made a test map but not sure how to make the layout
Bowsers castle: not started
Subcon: not started
More smb2 maps planned
Smb 3 maps not started

I  will do all the sound and music ripping myself and the huds
As for the skins, if youa want to make a skin from a later game, try to make it in the smb3 style

How exactly is the Frog Suit going to function as a weapon? And how would the Raccoon Tail differ from the Cape?

There was someone who made a working question mark box in 3D Floors... Darn, don't remember who.

Kapus, don't you remember?

The Cape Feather allows you to fly forever, and do a body slam attack, while the Super Leaf has a limited flight time and you cannot body slam with it.

Also the Frog Suit should allow you to jump a bit higher, maybe attack by jumping, and swim.

How is this going to translate practically into MM8BDM, though?

On the subject of weapons
Ammo is infinite
There are things like shells and stuff you can grab and throw
You can gomba stomp oponents
And the frog suit slows you down but let's you jump heigher and you can "fly" underwater

As for the flight, I'm working on it

Also the megaman class is replaced by mario

It makes sense to make the whole game SMB3 themed.
On the term of graphics, it is the better.

But wutever.

By the way while I'm here, here's how gameplay is atm
You start off with nothing but a grab altfire. The only ways to attack is to jump on someone, throw something at someone, or grab a powerup. It still uses mm8bdm water, but you can swim by tapping jump, but with the frog sujt you can swim without tapping. With the raccoon leaf and all that, you'll generate the p bar when you walk but it goes down when you stop or if you fly. For health, I might use coins and mushrooms (or might not use it at all).

Also quick question. Does the penguin suit efect movement any?

The Penguin Suit allowed for traction on ice and let you belly slide as a method of attack and propulsion across water and over 2-block wide gaps.

Would you mind considering putting in the boomerang suit?

It was fun to throw it around in 3D Land.

Mr. X left the community for good, ages ago. So all his maps have been left fully under my ownership. But I wouldn't donate anything to this unless I see it actually go somewhere. You have a long history of vaporware projects after all.

Hey! Ill have you knowvive been working on those said vaporware in my solitary confinement. The rest I just stopped working on due to lack of community interest, or them being just plain bad ideas. But I have a good feeling about this

Sorry for the double post, had to bump to ask if I should I fix it so you stop as long as you're crouching? Atm with the hammer suit it stops you and protects you from most projectiles until you stop crouching. You gain no protection from stomping or shells atm.

In other news, halfway done with goomba, hammer, and sledge bro

Also how do I change a map to allow and disable crouching?

Geno made Luigi and Birdo skins, and Rozark Kyouko made a Shy Guy.

And I made a Toad skin, although I'd need to fix some things with it (like the coloring). If I see this going anywhere, though, then I'd let you include it.

Ive finished all of the weapons from the NES series. All I need to do now is make a few more skins and stab futily at a canvas with a brush in an attempt to make playable maps. Also, anyone want to volunteer to make bot chats? After that, Im ready to launch a demo... If I ever gain access to a computer with internet access @_@

I'll handle some botchats, which ones in particular, though? (Hopefully Koopa)

koopa

Alright! I'm going to base this off of his appearance in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour if that's alright, even if he was a semi-Toadsworth there.

I wouldn't make a botchat for Mario. It would drive me crazy if he was speaking when he never gets actual lines of dialogue in the official (read: OFFICIAL) games.

Koopa had surprisingly less to work with than I thought he would.

Mario on the other hand... (http://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_quotes_by_Mario)

He had lines in Mario Power Tennis as well as the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. He also had a couple of lines in Sunshine, but they were cut from international releases, so I dunno if you want to count that.

Besides, we still hear him saying stuff like "Here we go!" and "Its-a me!" a lot. He's not a complete mute.

Hey, I was wondering if I could do a couple of maps for this. I was thinking of doing a couple of smb3 maps, one being the airships, and the other being based on Bowser's Castle. If it's okay, do you know anyplace I could get the textures?

I have a question
At the moment as the current play style is, you start off with no attack whatsoever other than a 50 damage stomp, but weapons are scattered throughout the map that are fairly close to the spawns. Should I start the player off with the 3d mario game's punch punch kick attack or leave it as is? (especially as all the mario skins use throwing animations for attacking)

I wouldn't mind seeing the punch-punch-kick. Would it also slow the user during use, or would that be too faithful?
