Theres been a problem with new members necro bumping from time to time threds made by users that have long scince left the community. A suggestion Ive thought of is to lock all the old threads made by people who have left that arenot actively used. Though those users can always return and ask for it to be unlocked. Hopefully this solution could cut back on necrobumping

That's probably for the better, since new users not reading the rules is getting out of hand. It's probably a lot of work, though.

One moment, Knux:
These rules apply to all forums on Cutstuff. Please follow them or else it's curtains for you!
KEEP IT CLEAN - Do not post or link to any adult content. Failure to do so will result in warns or bans.
KEEP IT LEGAL - Do not post or link to warez. Self explanatory, do not link to free stuff you should have to pay for.
KEEP IT FRIENDLY - No flaming other users. Heated debates are fine, but if it gets to the point you're calling each other names then action will be taken.
KEEP IT SANE - Unlike most forums I have little to no tolerance for retarded posts. What I mean by this is simply replying to a thread with pointless (i.e I lol'd) will result in a warn, ESPECIALLY if you just post a single picture. This isn't 4chan. Have a reason before you post, other than to humour others with stupid comments.
FIRST IMPRESSION IS EVERYTHING - Post shit on my forum in your first post and you're gone.
SPEAK IN ENGLISH - Cutstuff is an English speaking board, we please ask for the understanding and comprehension for all our members that you do not speak in other languages other than English.
If you think you can follow these rules, you'll do just dandy. Welcome to the board!
As you can see, there is no actual explicit rule against necrobumping.
You *could* possibly interpret it as something related to the fourth point, but it is still not explicitly stated.
I know that the common opinion here is that necrobumps are a tool that should be used wisely and rarely, but that's not the same everywhere else.
And when a new person stumbles upon this site, reads the rules and decides to create an account without knowing the specific "culture" in here - how could they if they never interacted with the forums before - they can not directly know that necrobumping is discouraged.

Yeah, I feel if nothing else updating the rules with our policy on necrobumping wouldn't be a horrible idea. It's one of those things that often blurs between forums, and it'd help lower confusion among newer members.

I agree. The moderators/admins have been pretty good about giving new users an unofficial warning upon their first 'necrobump' and only issuing an actual warning after subsequent 'violations', since this policy is not present in the rules. But, ultimately warnings have been issued (or at least, the intent to warn is clear) for some amount of violations of a nonexistent rule, and that's not a good thing. I made a post here about updating the rules. (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4666&start=10#p249587) I did not explicitly mention the policy on necrobumping, but it falls under the "undefined discretion to warn" point.
To bring this more technically on topic, while removing old topics would fix much of the issue, I think I speak for many people when I say I wouldn't want to see so much history gone. I think better definition in the rules and the occasional person who will still 'necrobump' anyway are worth preserving old threads.

I just simply suggested locking them as opposed to deleting them letting people still download links from it just not bumping it. But yeah, the rules do need to be updated
-
I don't think locking is necessary.
I, personally, never saw it as a huge problem.

Right, we don't have a clear rule against necro-bumping. Should've thought of that, derp.
