Title: Skunk's Maps (Please Test My Map!)
Post by: Skunk on March 16, 2014, 04:18:18 AM
So here is my first ever map for MM8BDM, based off Blaster Master Area 1! Some liberties were taken with the design to make it look more interesting, but it is based off the underground areas. Includes new music and textures. Please tell me what you think about the map and it's playability and all that jazz.

Can you please post some screenshots? Some people would like to see what it looks like before downloading.

Added screenshots. I don't expect them to wow anyone, this is my first map in a really long time. And I wasn't good back then either.

The texture work is great, but I'm gonna be blunt, yes, it sucks in a standpoint for any game modes we have. It is big, hard to navigate with tiny doorways only 1 person can fit through and I grabbed an M tank I didn't know I found.
Don't expect to see feed back on you maps on the forums, you will rarely to never see any.

I don't wanna come of as rude, honestly I don't, I'm saying all that so you know what the mistakes are. The next part are some positive notes now.

Now, this does NOT mean you are a bad mapper, as it was your first map, try making one that you feel is actually playable in an game mode we have. Heck, even go to the mapping contest that just ended and try your hand at the FTM theme. You can't join the contest now that it is over but you can still try to make a map using the base Ivory made.

I also suggest looking at maps from the core that you like, see what's good about them and try to emulate that feel. Size, kind of layout, gimmicks used, weapon placement... all of this counts, but is not everything. It's okay to copy things at first so that you get a good feel of what a playable map is. Nobody's going to bite you for it, and it will definitely help in the long run.

Then what, if I may ask, is the point of this subforum?

It really is too bad, but you'll have to wait for people to give you comments. All of us who map have to cope with that sort of thing at some point.

you can also ask somebody to throw you in the Mapper's Chat we have set up on Skype

it's not 100% foolproof reliable but you can count on feedback a lot quicker than waiting on the forums
