Title: The Official Unholy Bosses Thread
Post by: Zomo.exe on April 24, 2014, 03:55:51 AM
On behalf of Dakutatoru/Pikman555555555 (all those 5's are joke, Pikman555 would do just as well), I am putting this up so that everyone is aware of a somewhat old project being combined with that oh-so-lovable Saxton Hale stuff. You're probably wondering, "Oh great, not ANOTHER waste of talent on a tired-out form of gameplay, haven't we seen this like 852576871 times?" You're right; but I'm also sure that you're tired of the same simplicity, the same boring bosses/classes and the same people who take advantage of the fact that some classes or weapons can just troll like no tomorrow, and no one likes 10+ minute matches just because of one person who decides to stall as long as possible, when by the time the next round starts, anyone can die a couple minutes later. The goal of this mod is to not only solve the problems that basically every other SH mod has as well as keep things interesting, yet also 1-up those same mods in terms of complexity and strategy.

With that being said, one might wonder why TK'ing is allowed in this mod... First off, it keeps the time spent waiting to a minimum in most cases so more gameplay can occur, but teammate killing can only be done through select items. This is so that while the concept itself is not a major turndown, but it keeps control of people that want to do nothing more than prolong a match longer than intended (bosses were also designed to be able to deal with stallers as well to further this). Secondly, having the power to decide the fate of anyone you wish is appealing, is it not?

Now the mod (or story itself):

(click to show/hide)

It is clear that this is not just another typical SH mod; there is actual backstory and motives behind every class and boss. While some may not be willing to share it, their main motives are clear enough; they will take down anyone in their way to seek the power of the embodiments of sin itself. You, the player, must work together with your allies and attempt to confront these mysterious entities, knowing full-well they could easily wipe you out if they have the determination and want to. Should you, however, have more will and determination than them, maybe you will be able to send them back to where they came from and hope they never return...

While this mod is considered public and released, work should also never be considered complete; there is always room for new potential events, bosses and of course, classes and items. The problem is that not everyone has the understanding of Decorate, yet alone ACS, and those that do most likely want nothing to do with the Saxton Hale scene. This is understandable, but for something to become great and known, then someone has to provide the coding and resources necessary to get it to that level. Also, it is understandable if the complexity of this mod and the limited TK'ing through items is a turndown to players; once suggestions and ideas are given to us, then the overall gameplay can be improved and made more enjoyable to those who want more of a challenge in fighting a boss and having a couple of laughs along the way. Keep in mind that while this was intended at one point to poke fun at SH in general and act like a joke mod, it is still a serious enough project that can easily be considered underrated. Ending that note, this mod still needs work but not many people on the team currently can code; it is lacking currently in the following:

UPDATE: We DESPERATELY need a dedicated spriter, especially for HUDs. Look on page 3 if you would like to help!

-Proper Spriter(s); Custom skins/projectile sprites are a MUST to make a project stand out over others, as well as HUDs
-ACS; The fact is that while we're back to normal for now, at least most ACS already done has been tested and determined to work as intended, considering it is based off of older SH coding. That doesn't mean we don't need more people with ACS knowledge!
-Decorate; While Pik has done virtually most of the bosses and classes on his own, such a burden should not be put on him alone; more people with knowledge of decorate means faster release times and testing/more productivity.
-Mappers (OPTIONAL); Be willing and able to possibly build custom maps relating to this mod to once again improve the general experience of it.

Should you happen to be interested in helping and can fill one of these roles, take a look at the following application and copy/paste it, along with relevant information and answers as a reply:

UNHOLY BOSSES POSITION APPLICATION

-Desired position:
-Examples of work:
-Any major projects you did yourself or at least contributed to (will not necessarily result in a turndown):
-How active are you, and how often you are online or at least in-game (provide a timezone if possible to give us a better idea of when you are online):
-Are you familiar with how Unholy works to a good degree, or at least willing to learn:
-Are you willing to use Skype to join a chat, or possibly even be included in calls to discuss work and potential ideas:
-What else makes you think we should let you join the Development Team:

Also, suggestions, feedback and whatnot are also welcome. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT IT IS REASONABLE OR IT WILL BE REJECTED, NO QUESTIONS ASKED! If something keeps coming up, keep in mind that it might be polled as well as other suggestions in the future:

Once again, feedback is definitely needed and appreciated for anything, but most importantly, classes. A revamp is being considered in general but to do that we need to know who is in need of a revamp. Try to note any issues that might turn off someone from playing a class if possible. If you would rather provide feedback in the form of giving us potential resources to use (i.e. music, sounds, sprites, etc.), then get in contact with me or Pik so that we can figure out how to take care of turning them over. Don't worry, you will be credited as well as the original creators of whoever made them!

Finally, if for some reason you just cannot get ahold of the files needed, then links are provided below to a download site for each required file. The current versions are as follows and are required to join a server, and to successfully run them they should be in the order suggested below.

(click to show/hide)

Make sure they are saved properly in a place where your online browser can detect them, but if you're using DoomSeeker (which most people are and if it's configured properly), the browser should be able to download these correctly. If hosting, always put the classes, bosses, then music file in that order. This IS a must.

Other than that, tell us how we're doing, and happy sinning!

UPDATE: We now have a changelog for those who somehow care! This will be kept as of the v4a compat release:

Oh, my.
So...
Well, I'm not sure what to think anymore.
So in a nutshell it's sub-division of Unholy?
Also if you want my opinion, Saxton Hale is rather about gameplay than story, but maybe that's just me.

Everyone, please give us full reasons on why you dislike Unholy bosses and how we can improve it to cater to your demands.

To dull? Too complex? Tell us what can be done and we'll have everything all good.
We want everyone to have a good time in Unholy Bosses.

-Name of Suggestion/Idea (Can be for a Class, Boss, Event or Item): Edge(Boss)
-How it Works (Be as detailed as possible):
Health: 1000 per player
Skin: Gray Swordman
Primary Fire: If it's ranged mode; Sword Bolts - Edge swings his sword, firing out three bolts of energy that move in zig-zag patterns forward at high speed. They appear instantly, but have a slight delay before actually moving. The bolts do 100 damage. Cooldown of 2 seconds before he can attack again.
If it's melee mode; Sword Swing - Edge swings his sword, dealing 500 damage at point-blank range. Cooldown of 2 seconds before he can swing it again.
Secondary Fire: Change Mode - Edge switches to melee mode or ranged mode. If either attack is cooling down, he can't switch modes.
Item: None
Rage: If it's ranged mode; Hyperbolts - Edge swings his sword, firing out nonstop bolts of energy that move in zig-zag patterns in random directions at high speed. They appear instantly, but have a slight delay before actually moving. The rage stops after 8 seconds. The bolts do 100 damage.
If it's melee mode; Edge Bash - Edge charges forward for 5 seconds or until he hits a wall, instantly killing the players he hits. Movement is locked during the charge, so hitting forward will not speed it up, and it cannot change direction.
Obituaries:
Player bolted in fear of Edge(Player)'s Sword Bolts.
Player flew into pieces thanks to Edge(Player)'s Sword Swing.
Player was bashed out of existence by Edge(Player)'s Edge Bash.
Music: We Are Finally Cowboys - No More Heroes
-What can you provide us (The more you can provide in terms of coding/sprites/resources, the better chance of it being polled or accepted):
I can provide the music, and a recolored sprite if needed.

Ok, so class idea

KnightMare
Skin : Knightman
Weapons;
Primary: Dread Mace, acting much like the soul-cutter from the CSCC class, cutmanmike
Alt-Fire raises his knightly shield, increasing it's size a bit
Swapping weapons changes it to a melee, which is weak but fires fast. Alt-Fire remains the same.
Hitting enemies regains some health, but at the cost of his starting hp being less than normal. He can move a bit faster than most, and jumps higher too.
Colors are dark gray and black. I have a recolor changing his mace if you need it.

Suggestions on how to help improve things are welcome too, of course.

@Badz: Shin Hellbot, because of his terrible control. Make him a little bit easier to control, but not so much as to where he's unbalanced because of his OHKOs.

I'd like to see the darkness on ??? lifted a bit.  I know he's supposed to be SUPER SCURRY but on maps like Top Man and Gyro Man it's just plain unfair.
Title: Re: The Official Unholy Bosses Thread
Post by: Superjustinbros on May 30, 2014, 07:07:20 PM
We actually did have an idea of making parts of ??? not be affected by the darkness, such as the red in his armor remaining the same shade of red to allow seeing him better.

EDIT: Oh, I see what the problem is. It's the countless bottomless pits that the darkness adds a degree of difficulty to.
Title: Re: The Official Unholy Bosses Thread

The darkness IS a bit excessive, when I think of it. It's been toned down for the next version.

Hay dar, you unholy devs, you.
I know I don't have the most experience in doing much of anything besides finding things, but I was wondering...
Could I perhaps join you guys in your unholy mod development processes?
I can find things, I know when imbalance is present and can act accordingly, and I can offer class ideas or boss changes, should the need arise.
I'm untrained in terms of decorate, so I'm looking for a teacher for that.

But yeah, how about it?

Sorry about this, when I get back on Skype I will ask the team if it's okay to add you. Unless you have already been added... in which case disregard this message.
We do need more ACS/DECORATE people though, that's kind of a priority right now.

(By the way, I am one of the sprite artists of Unholy, as well as the one who helped make Marksman a thing. I also made a Boss which will be in a future Unholy after Dakutatoru edits it and inserts it. Among other things which I will keep secret for secretive reasons.)

If I may offer an idea for a class, can we have a Hellbot class? I know Decoybot already exists, but I kinda wanna see a sorta hellbot clone as a class, with less spazzing out.
Title: Re: The Official Unholy Bosses Thread
Post by: Zomo.exe on June 30, 2014, 04:20:11 PM
Not sure... the entire point of the bosses is that they are corrupted versions of their class counterparts in most cases. For example, feeding darkness to a decoybot gets you a Shin Hellbot. Also, you're referring to how RNG controls that boss; try looking at his file in SLADE and you'd see what I mean.
Title: Re: The Official Unholy Bosses Thread
Post by: ScrapHeap on June 30, 2014, 06:01:48 PM
I know that shin hellbot is a random thing, but he doesn't feel like an upgraded version of decoybot; he feels like a random akuma-type boss that happens to look like decoybot. What I'm asking for is sorta like a ryu class to the akuma that is shin hellbot

Boss Suggestion (If those are allowed?)

Name: Assassin Raider
Health: 2000
Skin: White Shadowman
Primary Fire 1: Wrist Stab. Instant kill from behind. 25 damage from the front. 5 second cooldown.
Primary Fire 2: Hidden-blade styled buster. Rapid fire, no cooldown. (5 damage or so per shot.)
Secondary Fire: Knife Throw. 25 damage per knife. No cooldown.
Items: Weapon swap. Invisibility.
Rage: Brotherhood. Calls in other Assassin Raiders to attack nearby players or bots for about 10 seconds.
Obituaries:
Player has been assassinated by someone... -Hidden Blade-
Player was shanked in the neck by Assassin Raider (Player)'s throwing knives.
Player got shot several times by Assassin Raider (Player.)
Player was killed by the Brotherhood. -Rage-
Music: IRON by Woodkid
If needed, I can supply several frames if not all of the sprite, and hopefully the music as well.
I also may be able to give the taunt audio.

Gonna have to say no to this. Reasons why are below:

1. How many Shadowman bosses do we have again... 2? No more please.
2. 2k health, not to mention 25 damage from THE FRONT. That's barely 1/40 of a typical player's HP in this gamemode. Remember, hp is scaled up to 10x the normal amount in most cases.
3. Sounds a good bit like a cross between 4MI Shadowman and Sutoka if you ask me.
4. You want a rage to call in a bunch of AI-controlled actors to try attacking people and disappear after a while. Right.....

Need I say more? There's nothing to gain out of putting this in really.

Actually the normal health value is around 1000 not 800, though some classes do have under 1k health (Trickster is and example, for he has around close to 640 in terms of health iirc.) also we can handle suggestions ourselves

Also tango, you might want to add a bit more to your suggestion than just that. Not saying its bad but it could use a lot more. And maybe adjust the health value a bit more for unholy's standards.

Ok, so this is pretty cool. Literally about 10-15 minutes ago. I spawned with a mystic box. Its been forever since I played unholy so of course I had no idea what it did. So I use it, and I have another item I don't know about.

I use that item and the game said I was making a wish, five seconds later "OMEGAMAN Wins!"

apparently I got the first wishing star ever.

Gimmick idea, just cause money is so loosely thrown about ingame as a joke, and I'll keep it very brief:

Players earn cash in-game via killing sins, players, and getting payed to become demon eyes. (bonus cash for demoneyes successful in a eye event?)

use money you earn to buy more items, class buffs, quirks and more to either strengthen/protect your ass, or screw with players even more. maybe even kill players in the spectators! before or aftergame is up to the devs.

As much as I'd like to see how monies would play a bigger role in this pile of assery, Larissa has a point; it'd be more of a hassle to keep track of that for EACH person, yet alone through rounds and people spectating and whatnot. Badz had the potential to make it happen but recently left for reasons I rather not discuss, so that is out of the question. Instead, here's some good news: a release in the near future featuring at least 4 classes and at least 1 boss (this one I actually made myself for my first serious attempt; despite not being OC, he'll be sure to put the teamwork of people to a good test). Needless to say, there should also be a bunch of fixes on the way that Badz never bothered with simply because he had other priorities.

So, v5c is out. Where's the changelog? In fact, why was this thread not touched at all?
Anyway, here are a few thoughts on some of the new things.

-ScubaDiver has two ammo types, but you can only see one at once. Give it two ammo bars or something.
-Faggisimo is very similar to HomingSeeker: they're both classes with homing missiles that stun bosses and have some form of fast shots. One will inevitably overshadow the other.
-GloryGuster's altfire could use more range.
-What's the deal with LuckyLass' new skin?
-I'm not a fan of the new obituaries.
-CloseCombatUnit's new shield looks as if it was paper-thin when viewed diagonally.
-Prickster is just Dickster with a dash...
-I haven't seen it online, but the gem banker seems to shoot way too many crystals.
-I saw eyelentos show up with only two people once. Why would that be allowed to happen?
-Trickster Giovanni's new skin looks silly, but I think that was intentional...
-Soviet Igniter's new skin is ugly.
-Rogue DX's color scheme is also ugly.
Please do not dismiss all this as me being mad like you did on the server. That's not nice.

This is pretty schweet. I like the changes to the classes, especially Quickster. He's actually kinda controllable now, so I won't be launching myself into pits as often, though that still happens. A question, though; why does Quickster have better control when he's running on ice?

And also a  revamp of her... the skin is just a Megaman body with Tango as a head, it's so awkward.. just like Bustermistress' new skin, i like the vanilla one tbh. Just an opinion, though.

NEW:I have two ideas.

First one is for demoneye item.

Lightning Demoneye
Sprite:Just like the Tornado eye.. but yellow.
Function:Just like the Tornado eye, starts spinning and spares lightning tanks or can just spawn them.

The second one is a demoneye class.
Rocket Demoneyes
Sprite:iunno

I happen to recall once joining, and later leaving the devteam because idk. As of now, I'd like to see about rejoining, with a filled out application this time:

So I'm a little curious what it would take to be a part of the team, if there is any openings. This mod is really the only reason why I play, and because of how much I've played it, I can't seem to play anything else through MM8BDM.

Hit me up in a PM, I'm not much of a forum guy and it would be best to contact me outside of this anyway.

Hi, there is a new version v6a. I worked on it along with the Unholy Team.

Here are the tl;dr patch notes.

Here are the full notes uneditted.

*IMPORTANT*

During the time from last version to this version, one of our helpers, Zomo.exe, suddenly quit and started some sort of revolt.  Nothing much happened until about a month? or few weeks later that Zomo sent me (Celebi) a notice saying I had to remove the following things in the list from Unholy.  If I didn't remove these things, unholy wouldn't be able to be hosted.

Here is a direct copy of what I was given.

///////////////////////////////
-THINGS TO REMOVE FOR V6 UNHOLY-

>Meguh Mang (Badz)
>Shadowman and ALL related coding to him, even ACS (Badz/Acid)
>Elemental Specialist (Badz)
>Juggerbros (Badz/Zomo)
>AUE (Badz)
>Vladimir (Badz)
>Rogue (Zomo)
>CX Airman (Dimpsy)
>ALL Subchat box items not made by Pik/Celebi
>Any class not made entirely by Pik/Celebi (Partybomber, Juggernaut(?), Astronaut (?), SumoWrestler, Marksman, GloryGuster)

(?) = Either redone/remade by someone else or unsure of person who made it

If anything on this list is still in v6, it will be considered stolen and used without permission and your mod cannot be hosted until everything is removed. I expect this to be honored if you want your work to be continually played.

Have a nice day "friend"~
///////////////////////////////

I questioned this list over the fact that this was rather unreasonable since Zomo was speaking for these people. I went to each person on this list seperatly and asked them personally if they wanted any of their stuff to be removed.  Here is a short list of everyone's answers.

Badz - Kindly asked to remove Vladimir and nothing else.
Dimpsy - Was fine with his things being used, asked for AirmanCX to be fixed up so he would appear normally.
Acid - Asked for Shadowman to be removed, but his general taking over the boss script could remain, also asked for UnholyWater to change since he made it.
Zomo - Demanded everything he made gone.

I only removed what requested to be removed, I did not remove anything that Zomo tinkered with that wasn't completely made by him. (Example JuggerBros)

So basically someone that got mad at ONE guy (wasn't mentioned on here, I know) decided to get dramatic, quit the dev team, then make a list later, trying to pass it off as what each name exactly wanted gone only for each one or most of them to separately say something slightly or mostly different than what was previously claimed? Talk about making others, who probably don't care as much for all I know, look as bad about it.

So uhm...does that mean this thread can be locked?

Unsure, probably going for a no.

Well, I just figured since Zomo started this thread, but isn't currently involved with the project, nor wants to be anymore, I would've figured it'd be fine for this thread to be closed and a new thread be made by someone else that's able/willing to manage one.

it's a mess to place the updates here, so if zomo agrees to delete this thread/block it it would be good... just that he barely enters the forums.

I'll just lock it so Celebi or someone can make a new thread.
