Title: Earthbound
Post by: Mr.Galaxy Derp on June 13, 2014, 08:56:45 PM
Yes I know that Earthbound is dead but hey why not?

This Topic is Mostly For Talking About Anything Relating To Earthbound, Whether it be about Earthbound Mother 3 Pokey I Don't Care. But Just Read The Rule's first:

1. Don't Post Pointless Thing's
2. If there's anything that might spoil gameplay, Please Use The Spoiler Tag's
3.Flash Games And Pics Are Allowed But Please No Creepy Flash Games (Screamer's is what i mean by that.), And no disturbing Image's (Only Exception is Gygas.)
4.Please Don't Argue Of Something As Stupid As "Pokey is a girl". Debate's are allowed but if you start calling each other name's I think you know what happens.

With that Let The Chat Begin!

I'm confused as to why you didn't post this in the general gaming discussion.

Or as to why you capitalize every single word just to highlight it.

Does it really matter?

It does "really matter". It's much easier on organization and it reduces clutter.

Moved this to General Gaming Discussion.

or I could just change the URLs in our thread catalog

What the fuck, man.
That's bollocks.

Earthbound isn't dead. It's very much alive, though the story may be over, the fans still haven't stopped playing. (http://starmen.net/)

Lots of ROM hacks and fan games and other stuff is still being made. You can't really call it dead.

While I agree we don't necessarily need a Mother 4, I'd still like to see what these dedicated and hard working fans on that project will cobble up. It sounds like fun, if it's fun, then why not?

Don't we have a thing about necroposting?

It's only a problem when there's no good reason to bump it. Bumping things like old contests and such is not fine, because the threads have lost their value.

This (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6015) was created to prevent duplicate topics within GGD, so most of the things within GGD are still fine to bring back to life.

Maybe if your name is Mashini Devata or Forever Bullet Hell, that's another thing. Something tells me those should be left alone unless the creator just comes right up tells you to take a moment and sit right there so he can tell you a story about how he became the creator of a thread called [x].

I find it nice that it has its own GMOD game mode.

Depends if you're talking about the Mother 3 encounter, or the Gmod Ultimate Chimera Gamemode.

Probably talking about the Mother 3 encounter.

Although I brought up the GMOD game mode as well.

Well Yea.. But what i mean by "dead" is no game's that are original have been made (that aren't ROM Hack's or fan made.)

I don't think it counts as dead if there aren't new games.
"Quit while you're ahead" as they say.
Look at some game franchises out there, they're still dishing out new games, and some are growing tired of it.
I'm pretty glad now that Mr. Itoi decided to end the series after the 3rd game.
It'll be dead when the world will have forgotten about it.

As long as there's an active Earthbound topic here, anyone ever read "The Chosen Four (http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fan/Forum/48624)"?
It's probably the best Earthbound comic out there, and even more probably the longest running one to date. Starting off, it doesn't look all that great, but over the years the art has improved drastically. Compare these two (http://local-static0.forum-files.fobby.net/forum_attachments/0004/7895/Earthbound2.jpg) pages (http://local-static1.forum-files.fobby.net/forum_attachments/0033/3096/Earthbound712.jpg) to see what I mean. (Yes, the second one is in fact, an entire page.)

It's definitely worth a look.

Oh I remember this.

I'll read it all eventually.

I love the way the art improves.

I've read that before.

There was an Earthbound comic I've kept up with for awhile, but it hasn't updated for over a year. It's called The Fall of the Pig King (http://mother-2-3-tfotpk-fc.deviantart.com/gallery/28399817/Comic-Pages). It takes place 3 years after the events of Earthbound.

There is a finished Earthbound comic I know of that takes place 12 years after Earthbound and it's called Mother 2: Harmony (http://starmen.net/comics/series/harmony/). I suggest reading both.

Has anyone heard about Mother 4? (http://www.mother4game.com) I would love to see that somehow, Porky broke out of the Absolutely Safe Capsule and made yet another appearance as the main antagonist. I just loved Porky and hate to see him stuck forever.

I, for one, would rather see a non-alien/non-alien-related (Pokey/Porky worked with Giygas) antagonist for this.

Well, this looks nice. As far as visuals go, this could probably pass as an official thing. Though it's obviously based off of Mother 3's general design, they did a good job working up from there. I'd love to play it when it comes out.

http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/10/ea ... ween-hack/ (http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/10/earthbound-halloween-hack/)
This is one of my favorite rom hacks ever. I won't spoil the plot or anything because you need to discover this amazing rom hack. It is also a plus to homestuck fans because it was created by Radiation (the guy who makes the music). Oh, and and a certain plot point where you go after the monster in the machine, press the b button!

I saw the trailer for the game, and I think it looks pretty cool and all, but still...
(click to show/hide)
They shouldn't break the plot of the previous game like that after it was VERY specifically stated that the capsule cannot be opened in any way. I'd have been fine with Porky having a role in the game as long as that part of the story wasn't horribly butchered. Honestly, I think the story is one of the most appealing aspects of the Mother/Earthbound series, and it shouldn't be underestimated with that poor an excuse for a plot.

I'll still play the game when it's out because it looks nice, if nothing else, but the fact that they twisted the plot in such a terrible manner will probably leave a bitter taste unless they come up with a legitimately good explanation (which I don't think exists, but we'll see.)

@ Knux
I don't think what Mr. Galaxy Derp said is actually the case, but rather just a wish of sorts. Then again I know nothing of the plot so Iunno. Mother 4 seems like a pretty cool project though and I'll be looking forward to trying it out.

Also, since this wasn't mentioned earlier, this (http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Community/PKHack/Mother-25th-Anniversary-Edition/first) recently came out. Haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, but I love Mother 1 to death and a lot of the small little changes here and there seem really cool. Once things slow down a little over here, I intend on trying it out.

Not going to lie, a graphic update to Mother 1 actually has me rather excited. I recall there being a project to actually remake the game in SNES styled graphics, or at least update it to look more like Mother 2 and 3 (I believe the scrolling health bar would have also been implemented, among other attributes from the later games). From what I remember however, the project never really saw the light of day. On that note, I'll probably take the time to play this version when I get the chance. I never completed the first game (I think I stopped after the area with Duncan's Factory), but this definitely gives me an incentive to go back and play it through.

And if I feel like it/if I ever get the opportunity to, I might do a recorded playthrough of it. Hopefully it won't last as long as Live-A-Live, but then again, Mother 1 does have some sections where you practically need to grind in order to survive (and even then, it's still best to avoid some of the more ridiculously strong end-game enemies from what I recall).

It kinda does, yeah. The patch itself fixes this problem in a couple of ways from what I've figured out so far, though. For one, you can adjust text speed in battles to make grinding easier, and enemies in general drop more EXP and more of whatever unlocks PSI powers.
