Title: Awful Translations
Post by: Swordkirby on August 09, 2014, 04:23:14 AM
My personal favorite is all the npc dialogue in Simons Quest: Do not look into the death star, or you will die.

A majority of SNK's early 90's fighting games could fit here.

But I absolutely love this

Meanwhile some of the lines had ridiculous typos such as "Strongerst"

How can someone not post this on here.

X5 has two really weird mistranslations, one being Dr. Light saying that the Gaea Armour lets you "walk on the damaged area".

X6 and Zero 2 also didn't translate that "fu fu fu" laugh they have in Japan. I kinda understand how it got into X6, but Zero 2 as well?

asdf Alice beat me to posting Castle Shikigami 2. Really, look no farther than that.

As for other legitimately horrible translations...has anyone ever tried playing Breath of Fire II on the SNES?

As far as poor translation of games-that-aren't-console-games-released-in-the-90s go, I prefer E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy. It's not atrocious in the same vein as Zero Wing or Castlevania 2, and some dialogs are better than others, but it's often rather difficult to understand, which does not help at all in comprehending the already convoluted backstory.

I've seen a Let's Play (well, currently 3rd time watching it) of a really badly translated version of Pokemon Green.

Everything is terribly translated from the Japanese names and whatnot, but at least half of it is just bizarre and very rarely to the NPCs, battle screens, etc. actually speak in non-broken english.

Examples of the insanity:

For those wondering who made that Let's Play, Shagg did.

It reminds me of pokemon crystal vietnam edition, with golden lines such as:

And much MUCH more.
