I may not be the first to say this but how this for a spinoff game?
X
16-Bit
Deathmach
The exact thing as MM8BDM but just the weapons and robots from the 16 bit X games.

Personally, I dislike Mega Man X and find it overrated.
But, that sounds like a unfathomable idea to me either way.
-
Trust me, its been thrown out there many times. Simply put, Mega Man 8-bit deathmatch is a massive undertaking already. 16-bit would be even worse.
-
I, personally, like it how it is now cause it reminds me of the good old days of megaman. :)

Not to completely shatter your dreams or anything, but X style is tough to sprite in, and we'd have to make so many sprites. It could take nearly a month for ONE CHARACTER to be completed, and because we would also have to custom some mavericks(depending on the style, guys like chill penguin or magma dragoon) so they fit the style of the other guys. I know I'm sounding really mean right now, but I highly doubt, unless you had a team of really sweet spriters, that this project would ever be completed.
HOWEVER. If you REALLY want this to happen, get a bunch of people and try it.

My hands and eyes hurt just thinking about spriting a Megaman X SNES sprite in several rotations. Don't even make me think about doing it for a Megaman X PS1 Sprite.
Oh no. I just thought about it AUGH MY EYES. AUGH MY HANDS! AUGH, CARPAL TUNNEL NOOOOooooo...

The SNES sprites aren't too bad, although they'd take considerably longer I think it would be easier than trying to make certain 8-bit rotations look good.
The newer fancier looking "sprites" can go to hell though. I think they look too soft. Reminds me of Mega Man 8. Mega Man 8 reminds me of an ingrown toenail.

i think that you're biased towards MM8 just because it isn't 8-bit! it's really not that bad! (voice acting aside)
plus the sega saturn version had cutman as a midboss, how could you hate that?
-
It was on the saturn, thats how!
-
And what's worse is that the Megaman Anniversary collection uses the PS1 version of Megaman 8. :(

You say it as if they didn't try to bother with porting the Saturn Version on the multi-consoles :?
