Title: MAPCHELLA 2014 (Coming September 18, 7 A.M. PST)
Post by: Mendez on September 02, 2014, 09:23:16 PM
IF I HAVE TO REPEAT THE DATE ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME TO PEOPLE, I'M GONN-
Ahem.
Folks.
Folks seriously.
What if-
Folks, I mean it.
What if we-

YOU LISTENING?
I'M VERY SERIOUS HERE.
JUST IMAGINE FOR A SECOND

Ok
So let's take each map pack
EACH map pack
We have a total bro best-ever host it
And we play a little of each map pack.
Let's appreciate the work of all the mappers who've made numerous maps
Appreciate the amount of hours spent by each creator to craft these sectors, implement their textures, and create their own gimmicks.
Below, in the spoiler below, is the download link for each map pack I've found so far from looking at the projects section and the maps section. I know I might be missing a couple of people's packs, but I'm trying to include as many DEATHMATCH MAP PACKS as possible. After all, this is Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch.

RULES FOR MAPCHELLA 2014:
-As much as everyone wants to play on every map ever, I'm saving that for Sunday. I will pick 8 maps from each map pack to be thrown into the playlist. This will give smaller map packs more of a chance of being played.
-Individual maps will be accepted, but they must be sent to me/uploaded on best-ever. Otherwise, I will skip out on them. It's hard enough as is to host map packs.
-If you want RCON, just PM me and give me a few good reasons why you deserve it. Otherwise, Maxine and I will have RCON.
-You are required to have fun.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING MAP PACKS WITH CUSTOM WEAPONS:
I'm gonna see if I can create a file that updates wepacs/wcolors to include all the custom weapons and make some map packs such as Powered-up and RNC compatible with v4. If you would like to help me out with that, please send me a PM. I would hate to skip out on some map packs just because they're not compatible with v4.

Just a quick double-post to say I still need the following map packs:
Mapping Competition #1

I also still need the following maps:
None at the moment lol

If you wanna submit any map packs/individual maps I've missed, just post in this topic

I am so hyped for this. The original Mapchella event was an incredible and memorable time, and I'm greatly looking forward to a repeat.

I'm pretty sure I have a couple of old maps hanging around that aren't in any current packs at the moment (e.g. Sweet Fantasy, old MM8AQU betas). I'll dig around for them and see if I can post them here.

Well, I have my SMB2 map, but the other two finished not-completely-shit maps I have are already in SBWT (though I should revamp that map some time to get rid of newbie mistakes and fix the textures) and Halloween mappacks respectively. I'll send that to you, and if I have time maybe I'll try to finish my Frostman Remixed for a second contribution.

As far as I am aware, the first duel mapping competition WAD was never made publicly available. Mind adding the Dual Mapping Competition Maps as well? (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=296015#p296015). The maps are here (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=touristtrap-1.wad) and here (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=duelmapsf.wad). I'll probably get a big dump of any missing packs and individual maps if needed this weekend.

Just for the sake of not having a clutter, my suggestion is all those maps that are separate should be thrown into a temporary pack (or packs if there are a lot.) This should make it more convenient to get a hold of them, not to mention uploading to BE.

I'm posting to say, the first beta release of the DOS Expansion will be submitted to Mapchella, and I am hoping to keep it Mapchella only.
It will include all 10 new skins plus the 6 alts, all 9 stage tracks, as well as Sonic, Dyna, Oil, Blade, Torch, and Oil Remixed, Shark will be included if I finish it in time.
Me and Dood are agree that this will be good for feedback, which we really do need.

Good news: I was able to merge the maps from the Halloween 1 & 2 and the christmas 2013 pack into a single giant map pack, with the christmas custom weapons intact. The halloween weapons were left behind though since they're practically replacements for the core weapons.

Bad news: I am not going to be able to merge powered-up, RNC, and the holiday map packs in time, so expect to see those expansions being played on their own day. Also, I'm dropping Xpackv2b entirely from the playlist because a lot of its maps are already found in IX-pack and IX-legacy.

I'm still accepting submissions for individual maps and unreleased maps you want to show off in Mapchella. I've already received cool maps from Nemu and Linnie, I'd love to see what other maps people bring to the table! Over the next few days, I'll be testing various map packs for compatibility for v4, and the schedule should be available within the next 48 hours. Thank you mappers for contributing to mapchella, and thank you folks for supporting it!

By that route, you should also drop I-Pack since its maps are also in IX. Just to have as little redundancy as possible. IX-Legacy is also kind of unnecessary since the maps are a lot better in the main IX pack.

If we're going by that kind of standard, then a good portion of the map packs on this list should be dropped. Legacy has enough unique maps/old versions to warrant its inclusion.

Plus, I'll finally be reunited with the old MM3 Wily room in IDM25. Still miss that girder platforming...

Not really, because all of the other map packs don't have inferior versions like that.

Which are also worse than their current iterations and some even unplayable, such as Wave Trench and its expansive 20 football field long layout. There's no need to add IX-Legacy, even more so when other usually not played map packs need attention.

I'm gonna go ahead and remove I-pack v3 since IX-legacy pack has all the old maps I was looking for.  Not gonna remove IX-legacy or some of the lesser-quality map packs though because I still think some of them are fun to play on.

Also, I've noticed that it's hard for some people to get the mapping jam file because doomseeker refuses to grab it. The reason doomseeker refuses to download it is because of the + in the filename which makes wadseeker act funny. I've taken the liberty of re-uploading the file under the name "mm8bdm-mapping-jam-1.pk3" so that it's wadseeker-friendly. You can grab the new file here (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=mm8bdm-mapping-jam-1.pk3), although it's basically the same as the old file, just renamed.

Because of Powered Up and CSCM being incompatible with v4/best-ever, as well as the fact I still haven't made the config files for each day, annnnd the fact I haven't had enough time to finish an AMP map for Mapchella, I'm going to have to delay Mapchella 2 until next thursday to get all of that sorted out. I'll need to talk with Mess about making the PU expansion v4-compatible, although I could always rip the maps from PU and CSCM and compile a small map pack specifically for mapchella. I might just end up doing that. Sorry for the delay, but aging map packs won't restore themselves!

won't that mean hosts will have to rehost the jam with the rename?

Just managed to finish converting the PU expansion into a map pack without the custom weapons, but with all the hazards still in place. Charge Buster was replaced with duo fist, Time Slow PU was replaced with core Time Slow, and Roll Swing was just replaced with Tango (or nothing in some cases). You can grab this new map pack here (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=mm8bdm-powered-up-map-pack.pk3). This should make PU hostable for mapchella, since the PU expansion itself wasn't updated to v4. If Myroc could update it to v4 within a week, I'd be super greatful, but otherwise I'll just go with the map pack I made. Gonna go and tackle CSCM next, which should be as easy as removing MM5CHAX (which has allegedly been causing crashes), the ACS file (which tampers with people using sr50), and renaming it something that the best-ever mods won't suspect is cscmremixed-v5b.pk3

"please don't throw garbage our way"
>our way
I thought I was the only one running this even though ): In any case, I'm fine with more maps being thrown my way, as long as they're compatible with v4 and don't use huuuuuge music files. Send it to me before the 18th, por favor

After a grueling process of going through every single map and seeing which maps would be refreshing/interesting/unique/fun/good to play on, I've compiled my whole schedule and will now start the process of making the config files to host all these maps. Note that the individual maps are not included since they will be hosted for all 4 days and rarely come up. In any case, hope you folks enjoy the schedule.

Edit: I'm sad nobody noticed that I removed bropack and the roboenza pack from the list ): I decided to replace JAM17 with JAM18 and KNDM14 with KNDM20 on the playlist. Also forgot to add DOS, which will be played on Thursday. Finally, I updated the list of map packs to include an UPDATED version of Blaze's pack, as well as the DOS pack itself. Mapchella is only a few days away, but I'm completely on schedule to have it run smoothly when it starts this Thursday.

As long as Vortale's ballin' maps are playable, I'm good with this schedule. KD's a peus for not including them in duel (except for the Cloud one).

I'm actually pretty excited for this- can't wait for it to start. Hope I'll be able to play it all three days!

Alright folks, finally finished uploading the last components needed to host mapchella, which includes:
-A collection of independent maps that I thought were pretty cool/were submitted to me (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=mm8bdm-mapchella-indie-collection.pk3)
-CSCM-v5b (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=mm8bdm-cutstuff-community-maps-remix.pk3) (Don't tell the best-ever mods, shhhhhh)
-ANOTHER edit to Blaze's map pack, which should be the last edit needed (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=blaze-micro-pack-v1a-mapchella-edit.pk3)
-a compatibility file for RNC and the holidays collection (http://www.best-ever.org/download?file=mm8bdm-holiday-rnc-compatibility.wad)
With all of that settled, I think I'm completely ready to host this thing. Thanks a whole bunch to Kapus, Knux, Shade Guy, Maxine, ForteGigasGospel, and other great mappers for helping me prepare for this event! Mapchella starts in less than 12 hours, provided the server testing goes fine.

Edit: I REAAAALLYYYY recommend everyone download the map packs beforehand, so that best-ever doesn't implode trying to handle all the download requests
Edit 2: Please delete and redownload the rnc-holiday compat file, as well as the indies collection file, I forgot to add the markers "PP_START" and "PP_END" to them

Cutstuff community... it's here.

Some small announcements I need to make:
-I need an individual host for sunday since best-ever is unable to host all the maps at the same time
-The holidays collection, as well as the gameboy map pack, have been permanently removed from the playlist for compatibility issues with v4 that I didn't know about at the time
-I've updated the links to Rozpack and Lilypack to the latest version. Thankfully, since they're being hosted on Saturday, you'll all still be able to play on the most recent version of these map packs.
-Fun is still mandatory, and I've selected another person to have rcon while I'm not around
With that out of the way, enjoy Mapchella!

It seems a little small because I removed the holidays collection and the gameboy map pack, so I'm gonna go ahead and add ALL of the jam maps into the playlist so that it feels a bit more varied

Looking forward to Dog Man's stage again. It's been far too long.

..Wait, isn't CSCM15 Dog Man? Is it not in the rotation?

Sunday's server is now up! Due to some complaints about the map quality, the schedule was modified into a bit of a "best-of" playlist. I couldn't get a private host in time and with all the constant compatibility issues, it just seemed easier to host a little less map packs this time around. The schedule goes as follows:
