Title: Can someone lend a hand please?
Post by: Anonymous on September 28, 2010, 12:04:17 AM
I was trying to make the screen smaller and accidentally changed the resolution. Now I can't change it back because my screen's black and it says..

1 : Auto Detect(Analog Input)
Cannot Display This Video Mode
Optimum resolution 1680 X 1050 60Hz

I can get into safe mode but I don't know how to change the resolution settings back to what I used to have, and I can't play the game in safe mode to switch my settings back. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm not good with this kind of stuff, so can anyone help me out?

Delete your "skulltag-name" config in the skulltag dictionary.

should I do that in safe mode? (I'm doing it now.)

If you want... Being in safe mode won't actually do anything.

Once you delete your config, Skulltag will generate a new one with all the defaults set.

Well, the thing is I can't see anything in Normal Mode at all. That's the problem I'm having. Sorry about not being clear, I'm rebooting it now.

edit: Yeah, as soon as I boot up Normal Mode it'll show the loading screen but as soon as you hear the jingle where it normally loads the desktop I can hear it but I see a black screen with the above text.

Da hell... Right click your desktop. Mess around with your resolution settings and get lucky.

I wish I could, but whatever I do I can't see it. It's just black. I know I can do things while on the desktop but I'm pretty much doing it with my eyes closed.

edit: and right now I'm on a laptop next to my computer, that's how I'm able to post.

You may want to make sure your graphics card isn't fucked. I've never had that problem before.

Here's what I did. I was able to open the game in safe mode.

Game > Options > Set Video Mode > and then I accidentally hit Enter for something. That's when it got like that.

What kind of monitor are you using.  Sounds like you'd have better luck messing with that instead of the computer.

What are your options in set video mode? Knowing those could help us.

Wait let's get this straight. You changed the resolution in game, you came out of the game and your desktop resolution STAYED as the one you set in game?

That should never happen, but in any case try to right click on your desktop and hit properties. Then go to settings and use the slider there to change resolution.

Before you run MM8BDM you'll want to delete the skulltag ini file as DTD said. After that I would strongly suggest playing in windowed mode until you find out why it does that, because it should ALWAYS reset back to your old resolution.

To make it go in windowed mode without going into options.
Press Alt + Enter.

That's actually happened to me once before (not with MM8BDM, it was another computer game) and I had to readjust all of my display settings.  It ruined my desktop's layout!
