I prefer Rockman ! Like rocknroll, rockman musics who are so good....
But for occident, we had always megaman, so it's better to keep "megaman", i think....
Capcom have bought the total copyright of "Rockman" there is some years ago...but not sure, they will use it for the next games if there is.... xD
Megaman si too much like...superman, bioman....
"Rockman" is more original for me...
-
I prefer Megaman.
It sounds more recognizable and I grew up with it. I'd imagine everyone in the East identifies him more as Rockman, though.
-
My (relatively common) head canon is that I like to think that his actual name is Rock but his super fighting robot form is Megaman.
-
Now we gotta name the game Rockmn 8-bit deathmatch.
-
When I think of Rockman, I think of some manner of bootleg sausage vehicle construct.
So Megaman.
-
When i think in Rockman, i think on megaman without helmet for some reason.
When i think in Megaman
-
"Megaman" does sound a bit cheesy honestly, so I have slight trouble saying it out loud sometimes. I don't get that problem with the name "Rockman" however, which sounds more original.
Based on this I slightly prefer his Japanese name.
-
Well, I like how Rockman sounds, and like the connection to "rock and roll". If Capcom were to start using it as the brand name in the US (in an Eggman situation), I would probably always call it Rockman. Mega Man is pretty cool too, though, and since it's the English name, that's what I usually go with.
-
Rockman isn't as fun to shout as Mega Man. :(
-
Rockman just makes me think of a robot master designed after rocks
When Mega Man has no element and just shoots pew pews the name Rockman is a bit misleading
But that's because I grew up with Mega Man, and I think it sounds better for everything imaginable
-
Megaman!
Weapon get! MEGA BUSTER

Eh, I prefer Mega Man. It just sounds... more complete. I grew up with the name after all, I guess its just how I feel.

Exactly this.
I like Rockman more but I say Mega Man since it's the commonly used name that I grew up with.

^This

Megaman should be called Lemonman. >_>
-
The "Rock and Roll" connection is still there since Megaman is still known as Rock, without the armor. That's what Megaman 9 stated, did it not? I mean after the disaster of calling him Mega in Powered Up.
So yeah. Megaman all the waaaaay!
-
I always used to call him Megaman, so there it goes my vote
-
I like them both. I generally refer to the guy as Mega Man when talking about him, but I recognize the term Rockman as well.
-
Megaman (with no space).

It's funny you bring this up, because in Dr. Light's trophy for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U, they actually call him "Mega" again (lol).
I don't know about Mega Man 9 (I can't think of where they would call him Rock) but they for sure called him Rock in the intro to Mega Man 4. Also, his original name is Rock in both the Ruby-Spears Cartoon and the Archie Comic series as well (altho they do like calling him "Mega" in the cartoon).
I've seen at least one person suspect this was the result of a mistranslation error, although they could have based it off of Powered Up. I'd be interested to see Dr. Light's trophy description in the European version, since they went with "The Blue Bomber" instead of "Blue Metal Hero" for his Boxing Ring title.

This tho
Alright...this one is a little iffy for me. Megaman sounds cooler overall for me, but it honestly depends on the context. I think it's because the dubs for most of the Megaman-based anime were really bad, but I think I would prefer Rockman in that context...most other scenarios, Megaman just fits better.
Buuuuut... this opinion would likely be reversed if the opposite was designed for the series where the Japanese name for the dude was Megaman instead of Rockman. I mostly blame country bias for the name preference.

I believe it was in the digital manual for it or so? I can't remember exactly.
Goodness about them calling him "Mega" again though, I think Capcom just can't be consistent! Hasn't Metool/Mettaur been thrown about randomly too?

Haha, ya. For the longest of time (and still off-hand) I call them "Metool" because that was the name given to an old MUGEN character (http://mugen.wikia.com/wiki/Metool) based off of one, so that's what I became familiar with. I dunno if that name/spelling is based off some better known source... In the credits of Mega Man X on SNES, it's listed as "METTOOL C-15" and the virus is called "Mettool" in MMBN1 (while they're renamed to "Mettaur" in MMBN2 and beyond). At the very least, they stuck with Mettaur in Smash Bros., heh.
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but while looking up this stuff I found it funny that this guy (http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Gun_Volt) was named Gun Volt, lol.
-
But Press Start. The robot is named Gun Volt, the other is named Gunvolt. Completely separate things! It's like saying that Mega Man and Megaman are the same person. Yup, totes.
-
I prefer either name honestly. There's no real difference.
-
I prefer him as Mega Man, but don't mind when he's referred to as Rockman.
-
If you have seen the 1st episode of the Old Megaman Cartoon,Megaman was Called Rock, and his Sister was Called Roll (Rock and Roll !! =D)
It was later that people started calling him Megaman, whatever was the Reason ...
-
If I'm not referring to him as 'Rock' like I usually do, I tend to call him 'Mega Man'.

Got the Rock, time to Roll !! :v yah i also prefer megaman, whenever i hear rockman i think of a guy eating rocks ...
-
Megaman, because Rockman and roll doesn't work.
if there was a more direct word for rock music that fit Maybe,
Van Halen man?
LeadZepplinMan
Just rock is pretty nice but rockman? he doesn't have enough theme for it to work.
although megaman zx they should have kept the original megamerge Catchphrase "Double Rock ON".
