That's right, it's not dead! Finish That Map survived the explosion and came back for revenge!

What does this mean? For this mapping competition I provide everyone a wad containing the above layout pieces. Your goal is to finish the map while making use of the provided sections. Of course, the sections have to be on the map or your entry is null. It will be interesting to see different takes on the same pieces of level. This level has no default music, no textures whatsoever or anything other than the layout itself.
YO NERDS THE DEADLINE'S JANUARY 17 2015 SO GET CRACKIN'

(http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/images/medals/badge17.gif) Impress everyone! Make CutmanMike cry! Score the highest overall to win Cutstuff Architect!
(http://cutstuff.net/forum/images/medals/badge17-RU.png) Not the absolute best, but still way better than the rest! Win in either community votes or judge votes and snag Architect Runner-Up!

Well? What are you waiting for? Download those map fragments (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p42r3bbnu5v5jh7/trainscene.wad?dl=1) and slap together some fancy geometry or something!

Hi, I'm gonna alter one of the rules slightly as many people have had some issues with the fact that null pillars are in all three of the map sections. While the idea of it being something you must work around is appealing, the fact that it is in all three of the sections is a bit stale and it's like forcing someone to do a super hard backflip. They did it once, they did it twice, but you just demand they do it again for no reason. As such, you are allowed to mess with the null pillars in only one of the three map sections. However, they still must be a pillar of sorts. Not a 64 Tall Box, a pillar of sorts. But you can adjust the height however you wish. But once again, this is only allowed in one of the map sections, but you can choose which one.

I have a question: Are we allowed to like, outright build something new on the existing map parts? For example, let's say we want to add a big ol' block in the middle of a piece to make it look less plain. Of course, all of this as long as the original parts are still recognisable. Thanks in advance.

You can build onto the map however you wish. The map would be pretty lame if you didn't add things to it.

Feel free to decorate the map pieces! Add pathways, props, little indents in the floor. You can also add 3D Floor areas above (or below!) each fragment, but again, it has to resemble its original form in some way.

That's a yes.

Sorry for the double post but question...

Can the map be any theme or the theme must be the one stated on the wad name which is "train scene"

Thanks in advance.

So uh

Some real life shit got me down (not to get into detail, summary is some mistake by some accountant made me $6k in debt and I had to spend several weeks working to fix it, it's almost fixed now) and in the course of time, I accidentally didn't a map at all. So yeah, I feel really awful since I know this isn't the first time I dropped out of a compo, but I think I'm going to have to drop out of this one too, real life took priority.
Title: Re: [a cute compo] FINISH THAT MAP 2: RETURN OF JAFAR

Actually, I'm in the same boat as Linnie. I got attacked both by some college and job stuff and was busy/exhausted 80% of the time. The time I did have to spend I instead spent on the other competitions I'm in, so I barely got to work on my map here. I probably won't end up submitting anything properly complete, so..baw. Dropping out.

I liked where my map was going though and I had a theme that I really liked for it, so I'm still gonna finish it up when I have the time for it.

I put the disclaimer there for a reason.

I lost motivation quickly and I decided to use the textures I had imported for a different map on my own time. So yeah I dropped out a while ago and never posted.

But now I posted.

So, here's the deal! Very shortly two servers for FTM2 will be up. One for DM and the other for TLMS (cause it's better than normal LMS). And then voting can happen!
BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT VOTING IT'S IMPORTANT CAUSE IF YOU DON'T DO IT RIGHT YOUR VOTES WON'T COUNT!

First of all, send all vote PMs to King Dumb. I don't want them. The voting process isn't just vote for your favorite either. Rather, to vote you have to rank all the maps from your favorite to least favorite. Due to how this system works, if you don't include a map or put any ties of any sort, your vote will not count. All 17 maps must be ranked separately. It might seem like a pain, but it gives more extensive results then just "this map won"
What a world.

Voting will last a week! You have until 11:59 PM EST on January 25th to get them in! Until then, have fun with all these maps!
Or don't have fun if you don't like having fun.

Oh, and before I forget, here's the list of everyone who made each map!
(click to show/hide)

Thanks for playing! See you all in a week!

So should I just rank the maps kind of like how Dr. Freeman listed them?

Edit: Also, what about my own map, I mean, considering I'm trying to win, I could just stick it at the top, is that okay?
Title: Re: [a cute compo] FINISH THAT MAP 2: RETURN OF JAFAR
Post by: Dr. Freeman on January 18, 2015, 09:03:58 PM
You could stick your map at the top, and no one is gonna stop you (it doesn't help that taking one map out messes with the ranking so all need to go in) if you honestly think that you're the best (or just want to be a loser who only wants the medal) Of course, there's no stopping people from putting their own map on top, but you're not the only one voting and a good chunk of people are, so if Bob McGee put his map on top but it was shit, then no one else is gonna put it on top and it'll fall down the ranks to probably near the bottom.

There are way too many maps in this pack for me to write about without skimping on the quality of the reviews so if anyone wants some sorta slightly mostly in-detail review of their entry PM me or something
Had fun playing on them all about 3 times so that was good

I'm already receiving vote PMs and that's great. Just want to clear the air about one point though. Please, do not worry yourself about how to rank your own map. You may vote however you please, and you can place your own map in the first spot, second spot, last spot, wherever you see fit. Neither I nor the other judges will think anything less of you or anything like that.

Alright, the votes have been tallied, counted, and corroborated, and it's time to declare the winner!

The way awarding medals is working is similar to last time. The overall winner when judge and community votes were corroborated will receive the Grand Prize. Then, the winner of the community votes (excluding the Grand Prize winner if necessary) will receive the Community Runner-Up Medal (this is the Community Vote Winner). Then, the winner of the of the judges' votes (excluding the Grand Prize winner if necessary and if necessary the Community Runner-Up) will receive the Judges' Runner-Up medal (this is the Judges' Vote Winner).

So, without further ado, here we go!

Thanks to everyone for participating! I hope everyone had fun making the maps, and playing on all the maps! Congrats to our winners!

Thanks to your mapping efforts, the combined forces of Lego's map, Llama's map, and YD's map put an end to Jafar, with moral support from the rest.
Woooo.

No seriously, thanks for playing!

I'm really thankful for all the incredible words given to me over the past week or so about this competition. My endless gratitude goes out to guidance from Lego for helping me iron out most of the kinks as well as giving me multiple ideas as to how I can give more life to the map. You absolutely deserved to win this competition, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Here's to many more!

It really feels incredible to win this competition after hearing the closeness of the higher up votes among community members. I can't express my gratitude to everyone who voted and the other competitors for a really fun competition and another amazing event.

Big thanks to Freeman and Smash for hosting the competition, King Dumb, Muzaru, and Super Raveman for taking their time out and serving as judges for the competition. I would also like to thank all those who voted and those who entered, your support is what makes competitions like these possible.

Thank you very much, Llama. It makes me endlessly happy to hear this from you.

To those who placed low on the list, don't feel too discouraged. It takes practice and lots of observation and testing to produce a good map, even when they are built to be simple.

Thanks again to everyone involved. This was a brilliant competition and I hope to see another sometime!
