Title: [SUGGESTION/BUG] Player Teleport Sounds
Post by: SmashTheEchidna on May 14, 2015, 07:26:12 PM
This has bugged me for years now. Whenever someone teleports, (using teleporters, exit units, respawning and joining the game,) they have the warp sprite effects, but with no sound. I'd like to suggest using this for players as well. For an example of what I'm talking about, have you seen how items warp back in (both visually and audibly) when respawning?

There are two teleport sounds that I know of; the other one is heard when choosing a campaign chapter or going into the training room in Light's Lab. I think that would work well with player warping, as it differs from the item respawns.

I could almost swear there was a time when these sounds DID actually play as I suggested. I could be mistaken, but I have a nagging feeling about it.

Anyway, the only problem with this idea is that it may alert other players to the teleportation...but still, what are your thoughts on this?

Now I'm SURE I'm not the first to think of this. But maybe the "blip" noise from when you unpause Mega Man and Mega Man 2 could be used.

That's the same one the items use when respawning.

I'd go with this because the one Tsuki suggested would pose a problem of clarity. People wait for items to respawn and those sounds being the same would cause issues with that.

Yes, my point exactly.

Sooo...does this mean it's safe to assume that this is being considered?

Wait...it already plays a teleport sound whenever players teleport around.
It just doesn't play on spawn/respawn online or when using the chaos device/exit unit.

Hmm...
I knew something was screwy...
I know for a fact this happens in Doom as well because Ghouls Versus Humans has its own teleport sound and I rarely heard that play back when I played that.

Weird as hell...

...A sound call is even explicitly called...
...What?

EDIT: Upon investigation, an easy resolution would be to make the 8BDM teleport fog inherit from the native one. This allows the sound effect to play properly.
Moved to pending because this turned out to be a bug.

I knew I heard it before! Thanks for confirming that I'm not just going crazy over here.
