Title: Megaman Legacy Collectin, collection game coming for summer!
Post by: Emmanuelf06 on June 08, 2015, 03:38:40 PM
It's: Mega Man Legacy Collection !!!!! ENJOY IT

https://youtu.be/BHIPcvwhqrM (https://youtu.be/BHIPcvwhqrM)

Line Capcom at E3!: "Durant la nouvelle édition de l'E3 ŕ Los Angeles, nous présenterons les jeux suivants: Mega Man Legacy Collection, Resident Evil 0, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition et Street Fighter V !" Yes, it's french but you understand, special edition....collection........dat capcom x___x

*return to do some others things......*

EDIT: More details there: http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/bl ... -platforms (http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2015/06/08/mega-man-legacy-collection-brings-enhanced-8-bit-classics-to-new-platforms)

By exemple: "Some notes about the additional modes:

Leaderboards, challenges, replays: Challenge Mode takes moments from each title and weaves them into a series of, well, challenges! So things like 'can you do these six areas strung together with one life bar' or 'try fighting all six Mega Man 1 bosses in a row.' And to keep the quest for the best time alive, the top performers in each Challenge will have their replay data uploaded and viewable to everyone! There will be many challenges to vex seasoned players AND help train newcomers in the ways of the Blue Bomber.

Database: Each Mega Man game will have a database that includes enemy lists. From here you can read details about certain enemies and hop directly to them for a practice session. For example, say you're tired of playing all the way to Quick Man just to lose over and over. With the database, you can hop directly to him and practice that buster run until you get it down to a science. Then it's off to the full game for the real deal!

Museum: MMLC will sport an exhaustive collection of sketches, art and other visual materials that help put you in that 1987~1992 time period. Part of this game's goal is the preservation of history, and the folks at Digital Eclipse are scanning items at absurdly high resolutions to make them as clean and clear as possible."

well ok...

No Mega Man 7, 8, and & Bass?

At least this one's confirmed for Europe. Unlike... Mega Man Anniversary Collection. Not sure if I'll pick this up in the long run as I already have all 6 of the games on the 3DS Virtual Console.

10 years ago, Mega Man Anniversary Collection was released for the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo Gamecube, and the Microsoft Xbox. It contained ports of the NES games Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6, as well as a port of the SNES game Mega Man 7, a port of the PS1 port of Mega Man 8, and finally ports of the arcade games Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters. Two modes were available to play for each game: Original Mode, and Navi Mode with added HUDs, hints, and remixed music.

10 years later, Mega Man Legacy Collection will be released for the PlayStation 4, the Microsoft Xbox One, the Nintendo 3DS, and personal computers. It will contain ports of the NES games  Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6. Two modes will be available to play for each game: Original Mode, and Challenge Mode with "increasingly difficult trials for experienced players". A "Museum Mode" also allows players to see high-res art, sketches and concept pieces, as well as loads of information regarding the history of Mega Man, and more.

The extra goodies on the new collection are kinda intriguing...but I don't think skipping MM7, MM8 and (still) MM&B is a good thing. Also, the developer of this new collection is Digital Eclipse, and the one doing all the ports is Other Ocean, both being companies with a terrible track record on ports. Gotta be pretty cautious about this one.

This is one of the dudes working on this new collection. Seems like pretty big words to stand on.

Stone,I have to correct you there, this is NOT a new megaman game, they just rehash pretending that they still give a shit about megaman, and also I can understand no MM&B since that actually counts as a spin-off,but no MM7,8,9 nor 10?Especially now when it is going to PC's and 9 and 10 which are the best ones in the series are just the games I do not have DX

I was expecting remakes of the mega man classic games with enhanced, spiffy graphics. The 8 bit artstyle feels a bit tired.

Also, why only the first 6 Mega Man games? Why skip over the rest, especially 7 and 8 considering that Anniversary Collection included those?

oh well. Leaderboards + challenges sound potentially fun to me so I might end up picking it up for that.

This is basically an inferior Anniversary Collection as I don't care for the leaderboards or challenges. IMO, they should just cut the bullshit and release MM9 and MM10 on 3DS.
Title: Re: A new Megaman game is coming.....
Post by: CutmanMike on June 08, 2015, 08:28:13 PM
I would be excited for a port of the old games to make it easier for people to grab but honestly I have no reason to get this. If it has MM9 & 10 I would totally grab it so I could play those games on my PC without having to dust off my old 360 or Wii, but we don't get those. As for the leaderboards and stuff, don't really care. I own two physical copies of the complete works so I don't need the cool concept art either. Oh well... Maybe they will slap DLC onto it later.

Also I find the fact it isn't coming on Wii U a little insulting. Not that I own one but c'mon...

I'll probably be sure to get this as soon as I can. Having MM1-6 on my 3DS while they're all enhanced seems like a good thing for me to have.

There being less games than Anniversary Collection is true and all, but to me Anniversary Collection sort of doesn't even exist. Though including those 2 arcade games onto this might be a thing worth considering imo.

Apparently this collection will use an entirely new engine for the first six Mega Man games, so I guess that's why the later games aren't in it?

I dunno.

I'll probably pick it up only for the Museum stuff though. Hopefully they add neat things (like maybe that option to play as Roll like the devs intended to do with Mega Man 2.)

What I wonder is, how many times have these games been rereleased and rebought, regardless of its quality, just for the sake of "showing Capcom there's still support for the franchise, so they actually make an actual new game", which they never do and keep rereleasing these games and we keep rebuying them?

If it flops, it's bad for us.
If it doesn't flop, it's still bad for us because we're never seeing the end of rerereleasing to "gauge interest".

It's a fucking trap, I tell you.

Very true, its why i wont buy it..... Like when capcom japan said "nobody like megaman" because "there is nobody in the capcom unity japan group of mm legend 3", capcom is very hypocrit, so they think they can deal with us so easily.... Better to not jump in the trap, yeah.
capcom, Better to do something SERIOUS or nothing (or wait for some good megaman fangames like MMBN3D (?), X corrupted.....) :/

i'm still gonna get it, but the only way I can see the general public getting it is if you could play as the Robot Masters, or something new. so far this just seems like NES REMIX 3rd party, but who knows.

OMG, I think I finally see what Capcom is trying to do. They're trying to bring back Megaman. Think about it, none of the new generation of gamers know about Megaman but then Smash 4 happened. Now, there are a lot of people wondering who this 'Blue Bomber' is. Megaman now has the most attention he has had since the original Megaman X days. Normally, I would just think "Since Megaman now has so much attention, rerelease all the old games in order to make a profit on this new audience and end it there" but then I read this article (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/06/theres_a_new_producer_in_charge_of_all_things_mega_man_at_capcom)

Guys, they're trying to bring Megaman back!. I still have mixed feelings now that Inafune is gone, so I don't really know what to think about this. I guess this game is a way to really get a proper scope on how much people are interested in Megaman now, but the last time Capcom had a "Vote with Your Wallet" situation like this, it ending is pure sadness for Megaman fans (I still wish you were a thing, Megaman Legends 3...).

In the end, it's really up to you whether you get this game or not, but I think if enough people get it, we might get a new Megaman game in the distant horizon. Sadly, I won't be able to get it simply because I don't own any of the consoles it releases on, so yea.

I'd like to think at this point that Capcom is using this as a wallet trap, just as Musashi already stated earlier. I wish Nintendo bought the rights to Megaman, both so that they start making games other than Super Sellout Brothers and that we can have some actual new Megaman games. Heck, with the Wii U and 3DS sales almost hitting rock bottom were it not for Smash, you'd think it's about time they started getting smart beyond huge ass controllers with screens.

You can complain about wanting a new game of any series, but that doesn't mean it hasn't had a lot of games already, so shut up about it, okay? Or don't, because the best you may get one day or another would be a *gasp* reboot!
Whether the case applies here or not, I'd suggest cutting out the whiny children act and either move on with your lives or spend your "waiting-for-actual-new-game-news" time on something that doesn't make you look immature.

I think a lot of fans feel this way, and I can't really blame em. Capcom recently said they were going to focus on HD re-releases, so it's much safer to use Mega Man for this sort of thing rather than go all out with a new game (which is a darn shame). Hopefully there will be something in the future (heh, something announced at E3 would be nice), but it feels like it's more up to chance than anything.

I am interested in this collection, though. They act like they're holding back some cool things for E3, so I'm hoping they'll show off some stuff that looks cool (I do find the database, getting to go straight to boss fights for training, and challenge/replays intriguing).

Want to know something else that will blow your mind?I played a fan game(which I recommend)called "Quint's Revenge",and Quint instead of just jumping around like a dumbass he dashes and other stuff, pretty much like how future megaman should be,but the quint we know is from another dimension...

That dimension in some way,is real life, the way Capcom treats megaman now is the same way most of us treat the actual Quint, those third party developers got the gameplay not that great, the music awful, but instead, they predicted THE FUTURE!

This worries me.

After realizing that Wii's virtual console plays the games at 50fps, and how much it drags down the sound and music quality, I pretty much never played Megaman 2 on the Wii again. When I played the other Megaman games, I played them on emulator instead because of this issue.

Much like how it should have been with virtual console, 50fps should be an option. The Megaman games are inferior at that framerate.

the comments heeee... the game started to be really not liked.

If there was an infinite mode or others fun things, i could buy it, but i dont understand the point of this megaman game...it seems to be just a basic emulation with possible large screen...

I'm now understanding why capcom decided to only put the NES games in the collection. So the newer generation can known who megaman is. Then annouce a new megaman game when everybody known who he is.

I was very disappointed about them not enhancing the graphics. If you have the anniversary collection, there is no reason to buy this. Seems like a cheap cash-grab.

Honestly, I prefer The Wily Wars on the genesis to the NES Megamans 1, 2, and 3.
Enhanced graphics, sound, and a few bug changes go a really long way.

See, it would've been a big plus if they added Wily Wars to the collection. Wily Wars is one of those p rare games that people would gladly buy on Virtual Console or in a re-release, but Capcom hasn't done it yet. I figure the reason was because they wouldn't want to release -any- collections after releasing the games separately on VC and PSN, but that's clearly not the case as they've gone ahead with this Legacy Collection. Now, if Wily Wars was an unlockable on the collection (or some other cool release like a translated Rock Board), that would be hype

Also, after playing the Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero beta, it does make me long for a Mega Man with hand-drawn character graphics by Wayforward.

A lot of people are having a go at the developers for not adding cool new features to the games and not publishing other megaman titles, but I believe Capcom probably had a strong hold on what they were allowed to do. "Port these 6 games perfectly to these consoles. Here are some art assets. Add leaderboards because they were cool in MM9/10." Something like that.

If what I've seen from other places is correct, Digital Eclipse's main thing is game preservation, so they're trying to bring it to bring the six MM games to modern consoles as close as they can to the original NES versions. Also, apparently its only going to cost 15$. IIRC getting all six costs like 30 on VC.

Gonna throw in my two cents:
It will either be moddable somehow...
OR
They will add the later games as DLC, in which case they will charge cheap for the "pack" (example of pack: SNES containing 7, Mega Man & Bass, X, X2, X3, Soccer)

People need to be patient, it's very likely Capcom can't find anyone willing to hold a magma-hot-potato such as Mega Man. You know, Mega Man fandom has been quite aggressive since Legends 3 cancelation, so... Yeah, gonna be rough

It's really bad to show this kind of cheap "collection" for E3.... better to show nothing I think'
if there was all the classic but no, even for a digital game, there is just the 6 first game, i can't imagine worse, maybe SfxMM but it was more a fangame, basically.

While I doubt we are as unappeasable as the sonic fandom, the cancelation of 3 games including legends 3 more than likely has the community a bit irritable. still, I kinda wish we had something new, anything new. just to show that they are going to do something with the IP other than let it rot.

Now I say that but they could always do what nintendo did with their latest Metroid game, there would always be that risk of them doing something completely unfamiliar with the franchise to the point of it being alienating. but it still seems depressing to think that megaman will just be cryogenically frozen in his past, releasing nothing but rereleases of his previous games and never embarking on new adventures.

I'd be cool with a megaman 11, especially if they went past 8-bit that time.
Title: Nice rant about Capcom that doesn't mention Legends 3
Post by: MusashiAA on June 17, 2015, 09:58:29 PM
So far, from what they've shown, what they're offering seems like a pretty solid work so far.

I don't mind that Digital Eclipse is doing this, if they pull it off right, it's gonna clean their shit stained name a little bit. I mind that Capcom and we think this is going to "gauge interest in the franchise for a new entry". IF CAPCOM WAS AN ACTUAL GAME DEVELOPER PLUS COMPANY, they should be putting out more original Mega Man content to gauge interest every 2 or 3 years, not rererererererererererererelease games multiple generations of gamers could have easily gotten over the past 12 releases, across 13 different consoles, for the last 30 years. OR ALTERNATIVELY, use the 3DS and Wii U Virtual Console releases of these six games to gauge interest, instead of...releasing them AGAIN.

And WE shouldn't be perpetuating this dumbfounded hope that "this is actually it guys, if this reaches x amount of sales, we'll get something new and better"; when did consumers had to keep buying something totally anachronic and bloody already available, to justify to companies to make more and better products, and not the other way out? They've been leaving money on the table for years already by refusing to make new content, and when they don't, they saturate the market with the same fucking product to the point where dozens of bins are filled with them (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FS_YLW0QdpY/Tf-lhohFDII/AAAAAAAAGm8/Hn-e3LZSuw0/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-06-20+at+2.08.46+PM.png) because nobody wants to fucking buy the same fucking product with a different fucking tag for the infiniteth time, to "show them" that it's "actually worth it" to make something better?

These games have already been released on the 3DS Virtual Console already, and I'm sure Capcom just fucking forgot. I can understand the value of the extra content, and the supposed devotion to emulate the games accurately is commendable...but we shouldn't be pressed to buy the same shit again, trying to chase the glorified unicorn of "brand interest gauge" that the Darkstalkers franchise has already fallen for. Make no mistake, my friends: Capcom is still shitting moronic, and they will still be shitting moronic, and they will tell us that they'll use this to gauge interest on the franchise: a gauge that will never be full, regardless of all of us buying it or not, because it's a fucking lie to cheat you out of your money, because they're not going to cocking make new content on a franchise that's not keeping their shitting moronic game company cruiser afloat, by abusing the hell out of their customers with retaining content from the full games, openly supporting abusive and broken pay-to-win business models, or completely ruining the original creative vision of the franchise. Every good developer they used to have knew this, and JUMPED OUT: they didn't want to be a part of the bastardization of their creations, and didn't want to waste their life away fighting against The Corporation Previously Known as Capcom.

This collection just shows you how many fucks Capcom gives for the Mega Man franchise, from a profitable and creative standpoint. If you choose to buy this still, expecting more and better things in the future, you're setting yourself up for disappointment, buddy. And you should know better by this point.

I hate to be that guy, but this has to be said. "Mega Man is dead, and lives on through its fanbase" is still a relevant quote for me, because it means just how inetivable and dignifying it is for us that we love and cherish this "scrub tier individual property", to give up on Capcom, given the irrefutable evidence that they don't care about this franchise: we do. And for now, we alone can't do it any justice for all the wrong that has been done to it.

And perpetuating the ghost of "gauging interest" is not it.

When you know, Playstation paid Capcom to make Street Fighter 5 on Playstation (and PC) only..... if not, SF5 could be release in 2017 or later....

Nothing help really megaman actually, Capcom (need?) care more about his big licences like SF or others (what about MH now? lol) ....it seems to become bad.... :s

I have seen some others screens of the game, the sky of the stages seem different, like cutman stage?...not sure. At least, some people in Capcom unity tried to help the serie, like with SFxMM (even if i dont like this game because the level design is pretty poor compared to some others megaman fangames).
We need a miracle, but at least, the fanbase help'

Can't wait the MMBN3D too, more netnavis battles!

EDIT: Maybe this franck guy is new in the world of programming, it seems MMLC is his first real project......maybe he could make something better or new later....it seems He likes the megaman serie and when he played some stages, he played it correctly, he is not a newbie or others, he seems interested by the serie but it's like, he does not have a "huge" experience for programming.
He could be a good thing in the megaman universe...maybe. Some people like me say He looks arrogant but maybe, he just has a lot of passion, we will see ?

Still wish they did something new, though, unless they're afraid of doing something that might end up being completely different than it used to be, but it's still depressing to think the franchise will become nothing but rerelease after rerelease after rerelease. I'd be find with a Megaman 11, especially if it were something that isn't 8-bit this time.

Doesn't matter. Fuck them for not milking the franchise even more than they already have.

Despite the facts and everything that did happen, people still want to jump to hatemongering conclusions. I don't give a damn about the truth. Please act civil, stop obsessing over how bad Capcom is, and wait.

The fans can express their dissatisfaction about this bad game (specially because it's really a POOR game), why are you so mad about it?

Inafune would want continue legend 3 (and maybe some others canceled mm games) but capcom Japan is like "let continue with cheap things for megaman to get more money easily" ....They dont care at all about megaman, even if a guy show a good project or finished game, they will cancel it, because too good', too much money to lose in the "publishing" even if they get a lot of money by us since those last years with the dumb goodies.... so bad.
It makes me sad for Megaman, Capcom JP mistreats megaman and the fans...

Like musashi guy said, if the sales are good for this game, they will continue with this cheap thing (actually they have said, if it's well sold, they could add more games in MMLC but not sure).
If the sales are bad, better to wait if Capcom want wake up or not, if not RIP capcom, anyways, not like if megaman was the only IP of capcom who get a dumb collection game.... remastered games or the new metroid thing (i dont know metroid but it seem the fans are mad about it lol).

I prefer do not buy this game and wait for an other thing.... I hope the sales wont be good, because it could be bad for us, Capcom JP wants try to be like activision except they do it in a worse way, lol. Anyways, we need to wait.

I looked at the release dates for this.

3DS version will be out a few months after. Kinda disappointing seeing as I will most likely get this collection on the 3DS. Why? Because having Megaman 1-6 on my 3DS sounds like a good thing to me, and I'd rather have them in this bundle as opposed to getting all 6 virtual console games separately.

However, if they play at 50fps then no.

It's because, they said: there is those games on the virtual console yet.....it's why capcom want wait a little', you see.

I'd assume the 3DS version would have the 3D effect given to games on that platform, similarly to how it was used in the 3D Classics line, Mutant Mudds, and Shovel Knight. That alone seems like it would take a little while longer to fine-tune and ensure the quality of the visuals.

@Stonefunk- *Bad/overdone idea (not bad game)

I know I'm acting like an arse about this and I'm sorry for that, but why would you ask me why I'm mad, then turn around and say we gotta wait when waiting is what I've been saying the whole time?
1. I know what Capcom's done over the recent years. That all's been long since covered. Why act like fans have never expressed their dissapointment before?

2. You keep saying "they don't care, they don't care." Don't you think that's been covered by now? Why are you keeping on?

3. There's been other stuff people have liked that lasted less time than Megaman. Besides, don't you think Inafune, probably the only person that still cared for the series before and after quitting from Capcom after all the irritation he may have put up with, might've moved on by now? Mighty No. 9 is still coming regardless and that may become as good for all we know (it's supposed to be a spiritual successor for a reason.)

If Capcom finally does something new one day, good. If not, fine. Move on.

You forgot the point that everyone jumped at Capcom's neck as soon as Mega Man Legends 3 got cancelled. And let's never forget that many mistook Maverick Hunter for a cancelled game, some even saying "Capcom cancelled another Mega Man", while it was actually a canned project. People just want a reason or another to rant about companies:
Ubisoft? "A new Assassin's Creed every year?! Stop milking it!"
Activision? "Another Call of Duty?! Your milking too much!"
Nintendo? "Another Pokémon. They sure are desperate. They need to make a new IP!"
Sega? "Here comes Sonic 06-2!"
Square-Enix? "OMG, new FF sux! Bring back FF7" (I'm going to laugh so hard if the "remake" disappoints people again)
Atlus? "They keep recycling that Persona Visual Novel thing!"
Valve? "Gaben can't count to three!"
EA? "Electronic fArts is the wurst company in the world!"

And the list goes on and on. Impatient fans, oblivious fans, haters... They always find a reason to hate, no matter what, and often turns into a blind, pointless ranting about how this company or another is.

What about an other megaman? oh wait....
At least, some companies make a new game..... not only a cheap collection thing. x)
Not like capcom who make only pseudo-remastered games..... (except when it's street fighter or monster hunter).
It's not funny to blame capcom, i dont have fun with it, i thought they could make a new megaman game or a little thing like MM&Bass (In HD or i dont know) but after Star Force 3 , we didnt get any new megaman game except in 2010 with MM10 in 8 bits style.... and later street fighterXmegaman and now MMLC...it seems It becomes worse and worse. Megaman 9 was good, but 1 megaman in 8 bit style was enough for me, mm10 in 8bit style wasnt necessary, i think'
Even with Mighty9, i have kept faith with Capcom, but no more since "this" E3 2015 with them.....
Im not the kind who like bashing or just say "everything is 100% positive, or 100% negative, i try always to understand how it works from the background.....

Maybe something for Tokyo Game Show?....anyways......not like if there was only megaman games.... ;)

Be PATIENT. They are trying to motivated fans, so they can get faithful enough on Capcom to stop ranting about how "Capcom killed Mega Man" (even though we all know that this is not true, it is a fandom spliting that kills a franchise, slooooooooooowly), so Capcom might have another go at looking for a producer for Mega Man, so producers won't look at Mega Man's fandom and say "Well, they are threatening to kill me, literally, if the next Mega Man sucks, so I won't do anything!".

Ask yourself first: Would you become a producer to Mega Man if you saw those rabid fans?

I'm starting to think that Capcom might benefit from giving some sort of official speech in word form or something along those lines.

Basically just to say that they genuinely feel as if there isn't a whole lot that they can really do with the franchise anymore. If i'm not mistaken the last proper Megaman game to be made was in 2010, and since then there's been 4 games that they weren't able to get finished up for whatever reason.

Most people seem to think Capcom is simply neglecting the fans, but there might actually be a reason for the recent lack of content. If Capcom stood up and said the reasoning behind it all, then more fans would probably understand.

Actually, the problem is simple, Capcom doesnt want pay anything to publish any megaman game because they think It wont bring enough money, compared to MH or SF, maybe, maybe not, we never get a AAA" game for megaman....except if it's Street fighter X megaman lol.
Paranoid? I dont think so, just realist.... let's hope a billionaire arabic saoudian (fan of megaman) will pay capcom to make a new megaman game, at least for publishing....could be a good start...well i can joke' xD

But it's not the point of the topic.....  :)

Let go back to the topic, they have said, if it well sold, they could add more game...well, i dont know...

Capcom is in deep shit about Mega Man. Inafune left them, his successor crashed and burned with Rockman X-Over and ALSO denying fans outside Japan from a localized version because he saw the negative reception of fans and decided just to cancel non-asian releases before quiting too.

All the merchandising they have been pushing, promoting old games, promoted that one fan game... It is all an attempt to put out a huge flame with a waterdropper, because this flame attack is what stands between them and a producer that could take the project. If fans wants Capcom to get a new Mega Man developed, they better put out the flames in their own fandom, which is the root of all problem.

Well i will try to keep positive anyway....maybe capcom doesnt have a true devroom for megaman and the others devroom (like MH ones and others) they to understand who is the megaman serie....nobody know, need to wait...

It's certainly the reason why there isnt MM7 (snes) and MM8 (PS1).

I will wait and see if they do actually release a physical copy, as I am not going to create a Steam account just to play an emulated version of the game which simply uses full screen mode as an excuse to say it's in "HD" (I already own the original NES (PAL) versions of 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as the NTSC versions of 4, 5 and 6). Weren't they supposed to be remade from scratch using a retreaux engine ala MM9/10?

Also, why is the UI text in the Pac-Man/Galaxian style font of all things? Capcom never used that font in any of their games (I lie, it's actually used in Higemaru).
Title: Re: Megaman Legacy Collectin, collection game coming for sum
Post by: MusashiAA on August 27, 2015, 09:16:39 PM
The collection is essentially a fancy emulator sitting on top of a really simple GUI. Never was it promised or implied that Digital Eclipse would remake the games from scratch: in fact, the opposite was promised, to keep the games as close to their original release as possible. It's so close, it actually contains the ROMs of the six games.

It has been found though, that the emulator in question is very specific in how it works: it reads the source assets such as graphics, BGM, and level data from the ROMs...but the game code was recompiled into a new engine. You could technically replace the original ROMs with ROM hacks, and most of them will work.
Title: Re: Megaman Legacy Collectin, collection game coming for sum
Post by: Threxx on August 28, 2015, 02:25:32 AM
What was claimed was that the original 6 games were "rebuilt" from scratch. This development completely refutes that. The reason improvements were left out of the games were not due to the cries of purists, but due to the inherent laziness of this "Legacy Collection".

Another shameless cash grab from Capcom.
Title: Re: Megaman Legacy Collectin, collection game coming for sum
Post by: Heihachi_73 on August 28, 2015, 08:02:46 PM
It's high time for a proper HD fan remake then, if Capcom themselves can't/won't do it. Still, Legacy Collection is a cheap way to legally own those NES ROMs you've probably had for well over a decade. If you don't already own the cartridges themselves that is. :)

It's kind of sad that annoyances like the invincibility-ignoring instant death spikes in MM1 and the anti-rapid-fire enemy invincibility from MM5 will remain unchanged though. That said, at least two games were actually updated between regions, and I don't mean Rockman 2 becoming Mega Man 2 with an added easy mode...

In the PAL version of Mega Man 2, you can't glitch through the boss rooms to the Wily Stages using Item-1 as you can in the NTSC versions, at least to my knowledge (I've tried it too many times to count; Mega Man turns around when hit instead of falling into the door).

In the PAL version of Mega Man 3, the player 2 controller cheats (super jump/freeze animations) were removed for whatever reason. There was also an oversight with this version, in that the fight against Wily Machine 3 gives you a nice garbled background that constantly shakes up and down until defeated due to a timing error. Specifically, they didn't bother updating the code in any of the Mega Man games to work at 50Hz instead of the usual 60Hz, and the slower running causes problems with this stage - the same glitch also happens with the submarine in Blizzard Man's stage when you run Mega Man 6 on a PAL console (no choice since it was never physically released in the PAL region). Running the PAL version of MM3 in NTSC mode fixes the graphics glitches (at least in an emulator, as I don't have an NTSC console to test).

Common misconception. These were likely debugging features that they forgot to remove when the released the game (not surprising, it's a rushed game). When they went to get the game over to Europe, they remembered to remove them.

Personally I'm a bit let down with Legacy Collection simply because the sprite flicker and slowdown is there with it not being an option. I understand that people would want it there for nostalgia sake, but they weren't exactly a good thing and many more people would want them gone. The easy solution to this would be to make it an option, so that everyone could be pleased. Makes little sense as to why they wouldn't consider this.
