Mega Man Discussion / Re: Least Favorite Robot Master from Each Game
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:39:42 PM »
1 - Bomb Man. Doesn't look very good or memorable.

2 - It has to be Heat Man. Guy's just ugly.

3 - Top Man.

4 - Toad Man, no contest. If only he had a better weapon.

5 - Hmmm... gonna go with Crystal Man, just because he's kinda bland. I forgive bizarre (Star Man!) but not bland.

6 - Tie between Blizzard Man (for the design) and Flame Man (for offensiveness).

7 - I have to go with Burst Man, because I never got the gist of what he's supposed to look like.

8 - Aqua Man. Meh.

9 - Magma Man, because he looks like Needle Man's lost brother. At least if you're going to look like another robot master, try imitating a cool one, like Tornado Man/Quick Man.

10 - Pump Man. Looks stupid.

I'm suggesting that, in a sense, it cheapens their original effort.  If someone were to legitimately make a piece of art, even if it's based on another piece of art (such as your mustache and beard example), it is still their work of art, and some people just don't like to see their work altered.  The makers of Minecraft might actually care.  Modding is frowned upon by various companies.  I know Blizzard reserves the right to ban people who use mods in WoW.  If the RM8FC team doesn't want their material modded, that's entirely their call.  It may be based (heavily) on Capcom's product, but this is still their creative work, and it's their right to "protect" it if they want.
I find it amusing that fangamers are often more anal about protecting "their" work than the original owners of the material themselves.

See: MUGEN character creators refusing to share code and going apeshit if they suspect someone is "stealing" their solutions. All the drama makes me want to scream "GOD DAMMIT YOU IDIOTS ELECBYTE MADE THE CODE FILES SHAREABLE FOR A REASON STOP RUINING GOOD THINGS"

I hate Reversed Controls. It's not fun at all. Does not help that I kept getting it when trying to play the single-player campaign with Chaos Generator on.

Have you tried right clicking on it and hitting open?
Just did. Nothing happens.

Also, do any errors appear when you try opening it?
No errors, it just doesn't open at all.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Fanmade Mavericks
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:56:02 PM »
Necro Vulture

Appearence: A King Vulture-like Maverick with wings that fold like a cultist robe, gems, the works. Also, a staff.

Stage: Sinister futuristic temple, traps galore, broken robots rising and attacking like zombies.

Attacks:
Raise zombies - Robots constantly rise from the floor and shamble towards X.
Teleport - Necro Vulture disappears in a shadow and reappears somewhere else in the arena. The teleport effect does damage.
Evil Fire - The staff shoots a bunch of purple fireballs that keep doing damage to X.
Life Drain - The staff does an AOE attack that sucks energy from X.
Life Drain Touch - Same effect, but done by Necro Vulture himself if X stays too close.

The staff floats on its own, but doesn't take damage. The difficulty comes from keeping track of the staff while trying to attack the Maverick.

MM8BDM Discussion / can't open the launcher
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:23:01 PM »
I downloaded the latest version, eager to play some deathmatch again after so much time... but the launcher refuses to open. I click on it, and nothing happens.  :( I can still use the game via skulltag, but that's definitely not optimal.

Snipers don't fit the style of the game; with such a fast-paced, in-your face gameplay, a sniping weapon would either be useless (in the time it takes for you to aim, everyone got five frags or you get nailed from the back), or completely overpowered (Scoping people across the map? In super-open stages like Air Man? It's more likely than you think).

MM8BDM also lacks good counter weapons to snipers, and then by the time you add those you've made MM8BDM play like every damn shooter out there.
