Events / CAPCHELLA 2022 (#FreeGibus) (Friday, October 14 at 8PM EST)
« on: October 10, 2022, 02:29:31 AM »
For anybody interested in MM8BDM CTF, I've got just the event for you. Introducing...

CAPCHELLA 2022 is going to be a 1-day event dedicated to highlighting several MM8BDM CTF maps from FunkyFlagFunction, MirrorCTF, and Recreation. I might also throw in a couple of surprise maps too for good measure but the main point of this event is to reinvigorate interest in MM8BDM CTF again. The maps will be played in a first-to-3 points format with a 15-minute time limit to ensure all maps get a good amount of exposure. If you're looking for an excuse to play vanilla or an excuse to try out a different mode in MM8BDM, this is the best opportunity around! I hope to see everybody there!

Also, please unban my homie Gibus from Cutstuff. He was just making an Eric Andre joke last time (#FreeGibus)

Maps / MM8BDM Mirror CTF Map Pack (V1C released)
« on: August 03, 2022, 02:57:28 AM »
One day, Greg.EXE had a concept for a CTF map that consisted of mirroring Knight Man. I took that concept and ran it straight into the ground. Introducing....

The MM8BDM Mirror CTF Map Pack!

TSPG link: https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/download.php?file=mm8bdm-mirrorctf-v1c.pk3
Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p24ntzeveyouwb6/mm8bdm-mirrorctf-v1c.pk3?dl=1
Image gallery: https://imgur.com/a/FwxWsDh

This is a map pack that takes at least one level from each major mega man game (1-10, V) and mirrors it to work for CTF. It also introduces recolored textures and props to help players distinguish between light side and wily side. Some care was taken to keep the weapon layout somewhat balanced but honestly I haven't played vanilla in long enough to know what's considered balanced so I just trusted the vanilla devs on this one and let most of the current weapons stay on the map. If people like the layouts or ideas though, I can definitely update the maps with more thoughtful weapon/item layouts.

Please enjoy the maps and feel free to use them for whatever mode you feel like! (DM, TLMS, Survival, etc.) If you want to use maps from this map pack, please remember to give credit to me and the original authors included in the credits file.

It's been a while since we've seen new CTF maps, so today I'm here to announce a new mapping jam specifically for CTF. Introducing...

All in all, I got 12 maps from everyone which is a pretty solid haul for a MM8BDM CTF Jam in 2022. The list of maps are:

I'm really thankful for all of the mappers who took time out of their very busy schedules to come together and produce a really unique and eclectic set of maps.

Maps / MM6KNI - CTF Edition
« on: August 23, 2021, 08:57:22 PM »
TSPG link: https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/download.php?file=knictf_v1.wad

So once upon a time, Greg.exe had a dream of mirroring MM6KNI's layout and turning it into a CTF map.

I helped turn that dream into a reality.

I had to make tweaks to the weapon/item/map layout to fit the style of CTF, but this is essentially the same MM6KNI you know and love, just mirrored. You can host this in a vanilla server or in a classes server, I've made accommodations for both modes. I also added single-player spawns to the center of the map in case people want to play something like Another Mayday. Please enjoy.

Events / MAPCHELLA 2021 - A vanilla TDM Event (5/28/2021 7PM EST)
« on: May 21, 2021, 11:12:50 PM »

It's the year 2021.
All of MM8BDM's old mappers are gone or inactive.
All of them, except for one.
There's just one problem.
He's too busy dancing with himself to notice.

Mapchella is a vanilla TDM event designed to highlight the history of mapping in MM8BDM by showcasing some of the game's best custom maps. Unlike other Mapchella events though, this event will also introduce a map compilation called SWEATPACK. The purpose of SWEATPACK is pretty simple: Take several of MM8BDM's older maps and preserve them for future generations. The map compilation will be released alongside Mapchella on May 28th, but if you wanted to see the maps included in SWEATPACK, I've got a gallery uploaded to Google Photos that you can view here . I hope to see you all there!

Bugs/Suggestions / Map suggestion for MM10PUM
« on: May 11, 2021, 09:14:28 AM »
In the dev Q&A video, I remember Russel saying he would be open to suggestions for changing MM10PUM without entirely reworking the map. My suggestion is fairly simple: Raise the lowest points of the map to reduce the number of jumps. The reason for this is because I am a firm believer in the Obi-Wan Kenobi theory of vertical combat, which essentially means that people on low ground are at an inherent disadvantage when fighting. This disadvantage is compounded by the fact that once you're in the bottom part of the map, it becomes difficult to walk around since there's a brown ring that requires you to jump at least once before you can begin your ascent to the top of the map. By raising the low points of the map and giving the player more breathing room at the bottom, it becomes easier to have actual firefights and also becomes easier to use the jump pads to rise up to the top. This is because it's now easier for players to walk onto the brown ring and then walk onto the pads.

I decided to post my videos on a seperate topic so that people can learn all about mapping from me. The goal of these tutorials is to efficiently and thoroughly teach aspiring mappers how to get started making maps that leave a lasting impression. Map files are included along with the videos below, with timestamps on the youtube video descriptions in case you only want to learn about a specific concept or gimmick.

YOU LISTENING?
I'M VERY SERIOUS HERE.
JUST IMAGINE FOR A SECOND

Ok
So let's take each map pack
EACH map pack
We have a total bro best-ever host it
And we play a little of each map pack.
Let's appreciate the work of all the mappers who've made numerous maps
Appreciate the amount of hours spent by each creator to craft these sectors, implement their textures, and create their own gimmicks.
Below, in the spoiler below, is the download link for each map pack I've found so far from looking at the projects section and the maps section. I know I might be missing a couple of people's packs, but I'm trying to include as many DEATHMATCH MAP PACKS as possible. After all, this is Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch.

RULES FOR MAPCHELLA 2014:
-As much as everyone wants to play on every map ever, I'm saving that for Sunday. I will pick 8 maps from each map pack to be thrown into the playlist. This will give smaller map packs more of a chance of being played.
-Individual maps will be accepted, but they must be sent to me/uploaded on best-ever. Otherwise, I will skip out on them. It's hard enough as is to host map packs.
-If you want RCON, just PM me and give me a few good reasons why you deserve it. Otherwise, Maxine and I will have RCON.
-You are required to have fun.

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING MAP PACKS WITH CUSTOM WEAPONS:
I'm gonna see if I can create a file that updates wepacs/wcolors to include all the custom weapons and make some map packs such as Powered-up and RNC compatible with v4. If you would like to help me out with that, please send me a PM. I would hate to skip out on some map packs just because they're not compatible with v4.

MM8BDM Discussion / The MM8BDM General Mappers Skype Chat
« on: August 05, 2013, 12:18:17 AM »
This is a call to all mappers of all skill levels. Thanks to mysome bold decision-making, the old map compo chat has been converted into a  chat for all mappers to share and discuss work with each other. This means that new mappers can gain valuable insight from experienced veterans, just as old mappers can gain inspiration from budding mappers. If anyone interested in mapping is interested in joining this chat, just leave your Skype username in this topic and we'll have you in the chat ASAP. Here's hoping that all mappers can come together to help each other become great at what they love to do - making maps.

Saturday July 6th
8:30 P.M. Eastern (5:30 P.M. Pacific)
http://www.twitch.tv/bluebrawl

I'm gonna spend most of July 5th streaming myself making a map, with music to keep everyone entertained. If anyone is interested in requesting songs to add to the playlist, don't be afraid to post here. I'm mainly planning on streaming music from http://jetsetrad.io although I could start playing tracks from my own hard drive.

Guys.
Guys seriously.
Seriously guys.

GUYS, PAY ATTENTION TO ME.
I'VE GOT BIG NEWS TO SHARE.

k
Let's take each CTF map
EACH capture the flag map
Have a total bro host all these maps
And let's throw a big celebration for the mappers who made these maps.
Like last time, the goal of this celebration is to focus on giving kudos to the mappers that take the time to make the custom content that we rarely play. The gimmicks, the sectors, the textures, the aesthetics, and the imagination that propels these mappers to go into Doombuilder and create content.
The event will take place throughout the weekend of November 3-4 and the wads will be easily available through Best.Ever. That means that folks should have absolutely no problem using Doomseeker to instantly join the event. The links won't be posted just yet, but that's because I've given some fair warning to some CTF mappers about wanting to touch up their map packs beforehand.
