Sure, its easy enough to use the ignore function on these RPers, but lets say you have the following scenario:
A server with 10-15 people, with 2 of them being RPers.  Why should the remaining 8-13 people have to use the ignore function on the 2 RPers, when the 2 RPers can just move to one of the many hotel/RP servers?  Talk about inconsiderate and annoying.  Even if you ask them to leave, they get all hissy about it and continue to RP anyway.  Sheesh.  Only when you threaten to kick them do they actually get their affairs in order.

And lo, and behold, we have another RPer who RPs whenever/whererver they feel like.  Goes by the name of "Melissa"/"Yuno Gasai"/whatever.  I seriously don't get why all these RPers try to pass themselves as female, I mean, come on, who are they really fooling?  Do you really think any ACTUAL self respecting female would go on to the MM8BDM servers and engage in kinky RPs/any kind of RP in general?  I'd hate to say this, but chances are these people are probably some very bored and possibly disturbed males...

Just be careful who you associate yourself with on the MM8BDM servers.  Sure, for the most part these RPs start off harmless enough, but that can be said of most things that appear harmless at first glance.  We certainly don't want any drama, especially of the Azure Sky/Giantmega kind...

EDIT: looks like Giantmega finally figured out how to set up a passworded server for his RP shennanigans with Melissa.  Guess Melissa is the new "Azure Sky"? =X Well, at least now maybe we won't have to deal with them RPing in a non-RP sever anymore.  I feel sorry for Lobs though, they picked his Lobstacle course to make their private RP server with. D:  Poor Lobstacle course doesn't deserve to get defiled with whatever weird/kinky RPs they are going to do...

EDIT2: example of drama that should really be left for Skype/IRC/Steam/etc

Ah, RPing, of the sexual kind (or any kind for that matter). I remember when it hindered me from playing. There was a whole group of them, discussing their emotional issues or something. Kept asking me to leave. Besides RPing they just discuss their virtual social lives, over 8BDM. It was a fun thing to look at, spectate, watch; in times when I was really rather bored, I would intrude over the once notorious group of people who just came to servers for RP and read their chat. Then that group suddenly started playing less and less, they were seen less on the servers.

It would seem that they're back. Oh boy.

Yepperz.  GM and her crew are back.  Though it looks like her "love" Azure isn't on as much, which leads me to believe they "broke up" (yeahhh, I have tons of reasons why I think that is the case, but I'd rather not say =X).  Oh well, the peace was nice while it lasted. As long as they keep all their emotional/relationship drama/kinky RPing off the servers, things won't be too bad I guess.

And yes, it would be easy enough for them to get Skype.  Refusing to get Skype seems to suggest they have something about their identity that they wish to hide...

Exactly! There are many applications/games that are way better suited for roleplaying than MM8BDM.  Seriously, I have no idea why these people don't just do this RP stuff over skype (it can't be too hard to do that, can it?).   While I do agree that RP has been less of an issue recently than it has been in the past, it still bothers me that people can't be bothered to make their own servers and password lock them if they want to RP.  And please, don't use Best Ever to host these RP servers, have some respect for the people that maintain and host these servers for goodness sake.  There was a nice period when the queen (king?) of all RP was gone, but now she (he?) is back and has her (his?) own RP server (with BE no less), so yeah...then there's that weird person who usually goes by the name of Yuno Gasai who loves to RP in game...

At the very least, we had a good number of people showing up at a 4-team Classes LMS tonight.  Wish we could generate that amount of players all the time, but for now I'll take it.  Even if some of the people there love hearing the sound of their voice waaaay too often.

What we actually need is more people actually PLAYING the game more than anything.  Outside of the KD tourney thingy going on, barely anyone plays this game anymore.
The times where the servers are actually occupied, most everyone is at some RP/hotel server or Saxton Hale server.

Pretty much why I stopped playing.

You would've thought after about a year, people would be tired of that trash map.

Guess not

Of course not.  The roleplay servers spam the heck outta that map.  I feel sorta bad for GBT, who must have put tons of hours into that map only to see it being used for one purpose only: roleplaying.  That and all the other people who try to lag the map by spamming the pool with Woodman/Chargeman/etc.

I wish you'd go back to streaming Pokemon TCG2 again as I really did enjoy watching those, but I guess those days are long gone, eh?

While I agree that RPers should be left alone if they go and make their own private servers, however, most of the time this isn't the case.  I remember way back when I used Best Ever to host Vanilla Duel servers-I would sometimes read the logs and what I found in one of my logs was pretty disturbing-two players (who shall go unnamed) were "sex" rping (for lack of a better term): making out, licking each other out, etc in a Vanilla Duel server I had hosted using Best Ever.  I can only imagine what would have happened if someone had tried joining the Duel server while those two were doing that *shakes head in disgust*.  Sometimes it always isn't apparent whether two people in a server are actually playing the game, or are roleplaying, unless they happen to be in a server that is designated as such.

I guess my main issue with RPers (not that I have anything against them personally), is that there are few players that actually play MM8BDM right now.  It is all too common to join a server, find that it is full of roleplayers, then leave because you actually wanted to play and not roleplay.  Even more distressing (to me personally) is seeing servers such as Giantmega's -RP- server as being one of the most populated servers.  Pretty much why I stopped playing MM8BDM; most people would rather chat and roleplay than actually play the game.   I just hope MM8BDM doesn't develop the reputation of being the best roleplaying application of all time (sarcasm).

For the bet between Mendy and Phantasm.

Also, SmashBroPlusB should totally finish his TCG2 stream.

Just a friendly reminder to those who have Best-Ever accounts: Best-Ever is currently forbidding CSCC to be hosted using the Best Ever servers.  Apparently it caused a server to eat up tons of RAM and caused both the bestever wad page and bestbot to become sluggish.  So I humbly present you this warning message from Best Ever regarding CSCC: Please don't host CSCC, or you will be banned!

Welp, looks like a good number of Best-Ever servers were purged.  Guess they got someone to close inactive servers.  From what I hear, next version of Best-Ever will auto-axe any inactive servers.  Good stuff.

Now that I think about it, why are we even bickering about this?  Even if we all could come to a consensus as to how we as a community should be using Best-Ever, no one here has any real power to force anyone to do anything.  Sure, it'd be nice if people were a little more considerate and didn't just host servers and abandon them or host redundant servers or host private servers that last more than 1 day, but it's not like anyone here can prevent people from signing up for a Best-Ever account, or take down servers created by people.  These things aren't even against the rules on the forum topic (still doesn't make it okay, but whatevs).  Ultimately, it falls in the hands of Jenova/Watermelon/Metal as to how people are using Best-Ever, and if they aren't making a big fuss over how we're using Best-Ever, why should we?

If the way some of us have been using Best-Ever is really that huge of a problem, don't you think Jenova/Watermelon/Metal would have come in here and issued a stern warning at the very least?  I even spoke to Jenova over IRC regarding the members of our community who misuse Best-Ever (multiple servers with the same wads/private servers/abandoned servers/etc) and he himself said it wasn't a big deal.  He even mentioned that they are considering upping the server limit at a later point.

Not that I'm saying this lets us off the hook or anything, because I certainly think it doesn't.  These guys are doing a great service to us all and the very least we can do is pay them the respect they deserve by using these servers responsibly (which is what OJ alluded to earlier).  Just because there are probably people outside of MM8BDM who misuse Best-Ever doesn't mean that we can't hold ourselves to a higher standard.  Right?  RIGHT???  At the very least people, stop hosting servers and abandoning them.  Can't we just agree that, at a bare minimum, is what we should be doing?  That, and looking at the existing list of servers before hosting so as to avoid redundant servers.

Though, not sure what good me saying all this does.  Especially since there are those who use Best-Ever and probably don't even frequent this message board.  Unless one of us suddenly becomes a Best-Ever admin, I'm not really sure what we can do.

Don't boot CTF. It may be (severely) underplayed, but it's always good to have something different available.

What I meant to say was, boot 1 flag CTF, and just have regular CTF in its place.

Your sarcasm has been noted and the authorities contacted. [/sarcasm]

Thank you and have a good day.

But on a more serious note, making more servers is not the answer. Do you not see how many servers MM8BDM is currently using? How many see very little to no use? Best-Ever servers don't just magically appear out of thin air, you know. Show a little respect for the guys providing them and use them responsibly.

Total agreement here.  As of writing this, there are 19 (!) MM8BDM servers hosted by Best-Ever.  That's freaking rediculous.  I liked it better when the only Best Ever servers were just Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch/the two Duel servers/etc.  Looking at the list of currently hosted Best-Ever servers, there are clearly some servers that should not exist:

:: [BE] New York :: BR91 CLASS SAXTON HALE (why? Classes Saxton Hale is just stupid, and we already have a Vanilla Saxton Hale server anyways)
:: [BE] New York :: Classes V6f Saxton Hale (see above, also why do we need 2 of the same server)

:: [BE] New York :: BR91's 1 FLAG CTF (CTF barely gets any attention as is, so this probably deserves the boot/replace with regular CTF)
:: [BE] New York :: Chaos Generator (Hell Edition) (chaos gen is fun once in a while, but most of the time the same effects are chosen over and over)

:: [BE] New York :: Just Megaman Co-op Updated
:: [BE] New York :: MM8BDM Mission for sane individuals
:: [BE] New York :: MM8BDM Mission Mode Public Demo-for GalaxySisbro
:: [BE] New York :: MMSP Coop (64 players)
:: [BE] New York :: MMSP Public Demo (5 of the same server, seriously???)

:: [BE] New York :: Private MMSP
:: [BE] New York :: Private Server (private servers, seriously? if you want a private server, host it with your own damn bandwidth)

There are probably a few others that could also use the boot, but these are the obvious ones...

It would be nice if people looked at existing servers before hosting their own servers, and if people maintained their servers properly (shutting them down if not in use), but clearly people are even too lazy to do that.  I really think we should just go back to the just the stock servers (Vanilla DM/Duel/etc), a few servers for Classes related stuff, and then a few servers for new releases/other game modes.  We really should not hog more than 10-12 servers or so at a time.
