MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch V5B - RELEASED!

I just found out something horrible about this version.

Survival in Numbers doesn't work with Zandronum v3!!

Yes, I know Mega Man World does, but it's not the saaame.
For one thing, that variant doesn't have a "resetgame" puke alias.  Or a puke command for it to begin with...

Funny enough, I seem to have driven up interest in the mod again, though, after I got Zombie to fix his server...

Can I use your metall ex skin for my mod? I will credit you!
Dunno if you're still reading this thread, but go ahead (if you haven't already).  Credit is great, too.  I'd appreciate that.

Alright, so.  I was going to release this yesterday, but I got a sudden case of "gun-shyness" and changed my mind.
Well, after playing a few offline skirmishes with this loaded, I've un-changed my mind and have decided to go for it.
(Some sneaky Petes downloaded it for the brief period of time it was listed here, too...  Clever critters~)

Anyway, thanks for the info, Mike.  Appreciated!

Alright, so.  After having finally played the game a little since the upgrade to Zandronum v3.0, I noticed something that's kind of annoying.  But I also found the solution, too.

Problem:
Every time you got to the menu, the selection cursor hesitates, then jumps to whatever choice your mouse cursor is closest to, at the time.  For example, you hit Escape and the choice "Start Game" is selected, but then it jumps down to "Quit Game" because that's where your mouse was sitting.

Solution:
Go to Options -> Mouse Options and set "Enable Mouse in Menus" to No.

Also.  Holy crap, that new intro is amazing...!

Edit:
And now that I've played through all the new/updated content, I have but two spoilerrific questions...

Cheers, Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch team!

Well well well!  The prodigal son returns with new updates!  I've been waiting for this!  And it would appear that my waiting was neither in vain not fruitless.  This update looks so awesome!
I can't even complain about more music from a certain someone~

Guess I'll be making my rounds on the servers at some point in the near future.  Maybe.  No promises.

The 'sent messages' in PMs doesn't seem to function at all and I don't think there's an Outbox

edit: ok i just found out you have to TURN SENT ITEMS ON or it won't do it
still no outbox though but I guess that's ok ignore me
Though on a similar topic... the Sent Items ("outbox") seems to be misbehaving all-the-same.  I'm pretty sure I did not send myself a congratulatory PM about becoming a forum mod, nor did I ask myself what stages Sakugarne is in.  :B

In other words, the "sent to" field in sent messages from the old forum is all goofed-up and frequently states the sender as the receiver (From: Joseph Collins; To: Joseph Collins), if not adding the sender next to the actual receiver (From: Joseph Collins; To: Joseph Collins, CutmanMike).

Edit: And on another related topic... you can see a member's post count in the Inbox/Sent view, as well as their custom text field, and both hang below the user's avatar rather than above.

Something... seems to have gone wacky with my Skins, Bots, Etc. topic.  Specifically, the message number seems to be missing from all but two four of my internal links...  But I don't know if that's because I'd edited the topic before this fix was implemented, or if something went weird on the forum software's end.

I'm just going to assume it was something I did, though, and fix this myself.  Thanks for implementing this redirect process, Shadoku!

Edit: Fixed title length and should show correctly in the main theme. Also I'm not having the ' problem?

I can't tell if you did that on-purpose or you're just being a smart-aleck.  But it's hilarious seeing that either way.

(I'm using the default theme, if that helps.)

I'm curious...  Has everyone faild to notice the Wily-esque typo directly under their avatars?   ;D

Me, personally?  I'd say keep it, but I don't think many people would get the reference.

This forum is weird and new and ugly and I don't like it.   :-X

Also, everyone looks fat in this new setup.   :-*

Actual, legitimate complaints and analysis
Wow.  Not sure how those Spoiler and YouTube codes got so mangled in the upgrade... not to mention image codes.  I don't know if I actually want to bother fixing every single one of my posts that use any of those... but I probably shoouuuld...

My main problem with it is that it breaks links to other topics from the previous forums.
And that.  I forgot about that.  And considering my "stuff" topics are absolutely riddled with internal links...  @_@  It's relatively-easy to fix though, I suppose.

Just replace "viewtopic" with "index", "t=" with "topic=", "&p=" with ".msg", and "#p" with "#msg".  Simple as that!
"Simple"?  The heck am I saying...?

Skins & Bots etc / **UPDATE** Alt Skin Bots Pack v1.2
« on: August 01, 2016, 02:43:18 PM »
Hey.  Remember that "alt skin bots pack" thing I made five years ago?  Well, I finally updated it, removing skins that no longer exist and adding the new ones.  Huzzah!

I'm probably extremely late to the party on this, but here's a weird one...
The Remilia Scarlet skin (dated 2010-11-09) overlaps with Remote Mine.  Meaning that Remote Mine turns into Remilia Scarlet when the skin is loaded.

This has probably already been fixed since the version I have is from six years ago, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

Holy crap dude! you got more then 128 skins!!??
At present, I have 219 skins, organized in folders by-type; classic series' skins (ex: Ra Thor, Bitman, enemies)in the base folder, then other Mega Man series' (ex: X, Rock Volnutt) skins in another, other video game-related skins (Lucario, Duke Nukem), other/unsorted skins (ex: Krillin or Keiji Inafune), and finally user avatars (ex: Brawlman, Smash the Echidna).  Oh, and of course, my own created skins in another folder.

I generally just don't bother loading the player-made skins though, since most times, I end up playing classes anyway...  But in the event I do play something where skins matter, I'd love to be able to see everyone's.  And I mean everyone's.  I'm a bit anal about things like that.

Apperently the problem was a skin file was corrupt, not sure how that happened, but the situation is resolved
Funny you mention that.  I had this exact problem with one of the Duo skins when I went from v4a to v4b (on top of the game not working under OpenGL on my gaming computer).  I should really weed through my massive archive of skins at some point and see how many of them are truly redundant and/or prone to errors.

Incidentally, does anyone happen to know if Zandronum 2.0 increased the maximum number of skins you can load into your game at one time?  As in, even if you load all of the WAD/PK3 files, the skins refuse to show up past a certain point.  I remember there being a limit of something like... 128 (?), at one point.

If I'm being honest, I really don't understand the need for more than one Bass skin. I can understand helmetless Mega Man and Break Man, but with Bass, his alternate skins are entirely new styles. It seems redundant.

Though I suppose the same thing could be said for Mobile Roll and everyone seems to enjoy that one so I suppose it's pretty harmless.
Variety is the spice of life.  I think it's nice that each of the key characters of the series has a variant or two.  That way, people can choose their favorites if they don't want to use custom skins.  Plus, since they're base skins, everyone can see them instead of just the people who have them installed.

Also, you leave my favorite Roll out of this!
