yeah man. I re-installed in a seperate directory, after downloading the file again, and it gives me the same issue.

I use the standalone launcher v1.08, not the skulltag launcher (although I do have that as well, under a different directory, but it doesn't cooperate when I try to play MM using it. I get "client cannot be obtained for game: Skulltag")

It isn't. I actually don't have a skins folder. I feel like having sonic and tails running around everywhere would sort of detract from the "megaman-itude" of the game, so I never bothered with custom skins.

And on top of that, I'm having issues with the data files used by MM8BDM.

Here's the deal: whenever I try to get on a server, I get the "U ain't usin the same WADs as the server, son!" error message, even when I am using the same WAD(s) which is usually just the v-1c.pk3 file. When I load up the game, I get a few odd messages in the screen that pops up when Skulltag initializes. It'll say "Unknown patch (x) in texture (y)" for a few dozen different items, then it'll say "tried to register class (x) more than once"; again a few dozen times. Then I get "warning: smallhealth and smallhealth both have doomednum 10001" and a few dozen similar messages regarding other files. Then "skin megaman duplicated as skin 65", with a similar message for every other skin.

It never did this before, and I tried a fresh install to no avail. Wha' happen?

For someone who doesn't seem to have passed third grade english that kid knows an awful lot of big words.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, y'all don't like it, just toss it right on back. I feel like the projectiles could be a bit faster. I know, making the shots move slower than they would in a typical FPS is to sort of keep it true to the Mega Man games, but I think some of them could be sped up a bit without interfering with the feel of the game. The shots from a stock Buster aren't much faster than the player's movement speed (although I realize Doom was like that too with it's non-hitscan weapons), and when you're taking shots at a moving target at any sort of distance (especially with ping over 100) you're leading by like a quarter of the board's length to land a hit.

This is really the only not-previously-addressed gripe I have with this game, which I still think is incredibly well done and is as good or better than it would've been had Capcom decided to do a game with the same concept.

I keep seeing all this teaching stuff. Since when do people need to be taught how to FPS?

That's what I'm saying mang. When you start playing a new game, you go through your suck period, look up some guides if you really feel the need to step it up, but... tutelage for an online shooter? Rule of thumb: if you don't get paid for it, don't go to school for it.

The way to do MM3 is start w Needleman, you get his bitchin auto gun and the Rush Jet right off.

... (cheezy face) :)

I deserved that.

On the topic of MM2 boss orders, the way I always did it was Bubble Heat Wood Air Crash Flash Quick Metal. Not optimum but I think some kid at school convinced me to do it like that.

Because of MM8BDM I've gotten into other mods like Ghouls vs. Humans that I would have otherwise not known about. I knew about DOOM from back in the day (DOOM was a big deal in 1994) but never imagined it would have survived this far into Y2K.

What a wonderful thing you guys are doing by keeping DOOM alive and kicking.

Agreed on every point. I didn't even know about Skulltag before I got on MM8BDM and now I also play All Out War and that Modern Warfare mod they have for it now. To digress slightly, I find AoW to have more depth and "hardcore"-ness than any modern shooter I've played.

I was 6 or 7 and my cousin had MM1. I remember playing Guts Man's stage and thinking that it was the hardest thing imaginable what with the moving platforms that dump you, and that clearly this was a game for big kids and serious gamers.

I didn't know until fairly recently that the common way to play MM2 is to beat Metal Man first and use his weapon throughout the whole game. Growing up I somehow got the idea or heard somewhere that you had to do him last because he was unbeatable without the Quick Boomerang. Of course, now it's well known that this isn't the case, but back then (i.e. when the game was new) it wasn't like you could just hop on Gamefaqs and have the in and outs of every game laid out for you.

Also didn't know about how if you pause in MM3 right when Protoman shows up you can hear the extended version of his whistle and not just the first few notes.

AAAND I must say that "W" thing all the robots do in their artwork is creepy and first I thought it was some secret Illuminati thing, but of course, it must stand for Wahwee.
