This was like one of the first things fixed for v5b. So it'll be all good when that drops

MM8BDM Discussion / MM8BDM v5b - Weapon Tuning (New Weapons)
« on: February 08, 2017, 05:57:15 PM »
Hey all you mega fans! Welcome back to one of these topics!

We had one of these for V5a but I figured with all of the new weapons/weapon reworks done in that version, it would be more beneficial to make a brand new topic.

So here's that time where we reach out to the community and ask what do you think of the current weapon set in 8 Bit Deathmatch. Are there some weapons that are too strong? Are there some weapons that are too weak? What about all those reworks and new ones, are those good weapons in themselves? We're here to listen to your opinion! We want to hear what the community thinks as a whole!
For the time being we're gonna keep the discussion a bit more open than the last topic. We're gonna focus specifically on the new and changed weapons for this discussion. Which I will quickly list below.

(click to show/hide)

We just want to hear what you think on these changed weapons! Are any of them still problems? Are they good? Idunno let's hear some OPINIONS! And if you think a weapon is a problem, how would you elect to change it? Our only request is that you make it clear which weapon you're talking about, just for easier organization down the road.

Thank you all very much and we look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I think it'd be helpful (for all skin topics like this actually) if you could post the original and the modified ones back to back, just so it's a little easier to tell what's been changed (especially for people like me who suck at figuring out sprites and the such).

like figuring out what had to change on megaman's hair that only unhelmeted got edited

For fun reasons, a small poll has been set up for everyone to vote for their favorite map in the RF Expansion! I wish it could be more than one but Strawpoll is a huge asshole and is one or nothing
so i guess one it is

here it is, vote if you want ayy.

Tutorial Collection / [TUTOR] Loop some Music
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:27:32 AM »
Because apparently this is something that's come up a lot lately.

SO LISTEN UP ALL YOU BAMBLERS, I'M GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO LOOP SOME TUNES. IT'S REAL EASY ALL YOU NEED IS AUDACITY

For the sake of example, I'm just gonna reloop Mega Man 7 Wily Boss. Since that's an easy loop.

SO HERE'S AUDACITY

this picture is fucking huge and i'm tired so i might resize it later, don't worry about it.
(click to show/hide)

So you got your song, now there's one important thing at the very bottom

Boom, all of these things are set to samples. It is possible to do this with other settings BUT I NEVER HAVE SO WE DOIN' SAMPLES

So we got our song here and our goal is to make the file as small as we can while you know, still having the song. With looping we can cut it down real easily. So step 1 is to just cut the song off where it loops, so the file plays one time through exactly.

So the song repeats right here.

Delete that shit.

The next step is to find the exact moment of the song where the loop begins. This means that if the song has an intro that doesn't loop, to just find the exact moment where the actual loop does begin. In this case, it's right here.

Everything to the left of that line is the intro, everything to the right is what is being looped.

Now you can select the entire song after the loop and hold shift+play to listen to the song repeat that selection to make sure your loop is ACCURATE but you don't need any pics for that.

Once you're sure everything is in the right place, take note of the sample number at the very bottom.

For this, selection start is the only part that matters. That number is important and is the key to looping this shit.

So hey we got everything you want to open file and hit Export Audio
You generally want to export the file as an OGG because it's the file 8BDM uses for its tunes.

Once you give it a name, this box should appear

Depending on the file, there might be other info but it doesn't matter. What you want to do is on the first blank line, on the left column you want to add "LOOP_START" and on the right column, you want to copy over the sample number seen on Selection Start. However, it's very important you don't include any commas or anything.
So in the case of this song, the Metadata would look like this.

And baboom, hit okay, upload that ogg to the wad of your choice and if you did everything right, you now have a looping song.
it's a christmas miracle

I might be able to get music credits to you later, I have most of them but not all of them. There's a few things I'm having trouble digging up sources for.

However, I would recommend against releasing any sort of soundtrack publicly because
A. Later on I plan on doing that with all the fancy schmancy things
B. Given how the only way you can reasonably access some of the files is through the abruptly cut off ingame files

With progress going the way it is, (aka really fast and good) I'm seeing less and less of a reason to not put the fusion masters in the first release :>

Hey you bamblers, votes are in!!!
To save on time and because I think he worded it way better than I can, I'm going to copy KD's little thing about voting from the F2M topic, because it's the exact same system we used here!

Quote
The overall winner when judge and community votes were corroborated will receive the Grand Prize. Then, the winner of the community votes (excluding the Grand Prize winner if necessary) will receive the Community Runner-Up Medal (this is the Community Vote Winner). Then, the winner of the of the judges' votes (excluding the Grand Prize winner if necessary and if necessary the Community Runner-Up) will receive the Judges' Runner-Up medal (this is the Judges' Vote Winner).

Before I post the results, I just want to drive home how close this was. The basic way this is handled is each map is given a number of points based on how you ranked them, and whoever has the most points win and all that jazz. For both community and judge votes (before they were combined), 1st place won by literally 1 point over the respective 2nd place. Twice.
Every vote mattered, wow! It was really close but let's get this going!

i'm also stealing korby's pictures aaaaa

Once again, it was incredibly close! The maps were great and it was just a fun time! I hope you all enjoyed playing on these maps, because I know I did!

And to be tidy, here's a list of the actual rankings.

Well that was a lot faster than I thought it would be. Mostly because Korby offered to compile the pack in my stead so HERE WE ARE

We got 10 spicy maps lined up for you, and considering this is CTF, I'd say that's a good number.

And without further ado, a list of our contestants!

TMHCTF01 - Thunderono
TMHCTF02 - LlamaHombre
TMHCTF03 - Magnet Dood
TMHCTF04 - Mendez
TMHCTF05 - Caprice
TMHCTF06 - Korby
TMHCTF07 - Darkseed
TMHCTF08 - Jack Corvus
TMHCTF09 - ForteGigasGospel
TMHCTF10 - Duora Super Gyro

A server should be up shortly to play these sick maps, and who knows it might change to one flag ctf later on. If people want to. Playtime will go until Sunday, August 28th at 6:00 PM EST. A strange time but it's longer than usual and I know I can't update with results at midnight like usual. So for community votes, just PM me what you'd rank all the maps and nothing else. It's very important that every map is ranked with no ties. If you don't go by that guideline your vote will not count in the final tally.

I hope you all enjoy!

Hiya!

So good news and bad news. Good news is we're done! Bad news is I work all week so compiling is gonna take a bit longer than I was hoping. I'm hoping to get it sometime this week, but that can range as early as late tonight to like Friday. I have no idea ;-;

However, there is something I want to say about judging! Because we actually have judges now! Why did this change?
Because a lot of people said they were going to make maps so they couldn't judge but then they didn't make maps so we can actually have judges now. And besides, a good chunk of you wanted them so here we are.

Judging panel is myself (FRAUD), good ole' King Dumb, and we got CutmanMike as the last judge! WHOAAAAAAAA
So judging will run the same as F2M when we start. Community still votes for what they like, ranking them all, judges do that, the stuff is put together and we have our winners! And runner ups go to whoever gets top in the separate categories!

So I'll hopefully have a WAD for all of you sometime this week to actually play some CTF!
See you then!

Yeah, I talked to Mike about this recently, basically I just didn't loop it because I got S C A R E D of breaking it since it's split up in the scripts and stuff
it'll probably be looped in v5b tho
