Given the cliquishness of this community, I find it astounding that ANYONE would think community voting would be a good idea. There exist very few groups of people that value quality over camaraderie in this community, so it's a given that they'll vote for their best friend rather than the guy they don't like who has an INFINITELY better map -- simply because they don't like him. Bring back the panel of completely unrelated, unbiased judges, please.

MM8BDM Discussion / Mods are murder

Oh sorry allow me to reiterate my point for you

Due to dm's unpopularity, volatility, and bad reputation, it would be best to only factor in ease of acquisition for it, and leave numbers-based changes to TDM, TLMS, CTF, and duel. While acquisition in these game modes is just as important, dm should not be given much representation.

In other words: Cmon nobody gives a shit about dm (in relation to Atomic Fire of course, because apparently that wasnt obvious enough the first time I said it for you ;) )

Judging will be entirely community based this time around and we will be lacking our usual panel of judges. Mostly because our usual panel of judges have elected to just have it be community based this time around.
I can already smell the rigging.

Thats intended, iirc. Hit your chasecan button, and you'll see that you turn into mm10's weapon archive thing. You revert back when you drop the flag or capture it

wtf dude are you really saying 8bdm is more important than his personal health? you seriously need a reality check, musashi.

And kd, there is no making mm8bdm great without proper steps taken. The way things are now is not acceptable. You're free to not "entertain" us, but with that choice comes the consequence of a bad game.

The devteam posts (bi)weekly updates on a Q/A session.
The devteam posts general updates in the topic itself to gauge the reception of new content.
That's nice, but what about old, Ivory-laden content? Without going back to recognize mistakes and admit failure, the quality of your content will still be subpar, and god know's we've seen average content from MM9.
We've opened up a map thread to discuss problematic maps, and have shown you the steps we've taken to solve them. (The ones we've shown anyways)
There's potentially another thread coming soon.
Again, that's nice, but asking people to talk about EVERY map-related problem they have is a wee bit overwhelming for average users. Nobody is going to sit there for 4 hours typing up thoughts on the 40+ maps that were atrociously designed under Ivory's reign. What you need is FOCUS. "What is wrong with MMBMAG, what did we fuck up, and how can we fix it?", not "PROBLEMS WITH EVERY MAP, GO". While that seems more tedious, it gets results. Getting the right answers is important, but asking the right QUESTIONS is more important. If you don't know what you're looking for, we don't know how to fix it. Furthermore, this would be an excellent way to implement smaller, bite sized updates. Ask about a few problem maps/weapons, clean them up, and pump out a quick patch. Not only will this get qualitative work done over quantitative, it eases the burden of a large project for the devteam, and even allows more rapid shifts in management or team members. If someone gets burned out after working on a couple map updates, they can pass the torch to someone else. Remember, you are not being paid to make this game, so why do you make the job harder for yourself by not dividing up the work into smaller pieces? You are taking the hard path, not the logical, more enjoyable path.
As part of the current devteam myself, we've taken steps to reassure you that the content we're producing for V5 is the best we've ever churned out.
So far, that hasn't been very promising. The reworked and new maps don't seem all that different from the last couple expansions, despite this being the "Taking 8bdm back to its roots" update. I distinctly remember a high-up dev member stating MM7, 8, and &B maps being so astronomically huge because of the wide array of textures available, which is a flawed mapmaking strategy. We need fewer artists and more architects, please. The team is composed of a few...suspect... mappers, those of which whose maps are usually immediately voted off of, and I'm not sure if they should even be involved in the devteam given their reputation.

There's a tad bit of misconception surrounding it.
Well then how about you clear up those misconceptions? Was &B a failure? Were Ivory/Mess's design philosophies over the years wrong? Were you justified in replacing MM1FIR with a different map from 2011 the right thing to do? We cannot trust you unless previous mistakes are admitted and fixed.
While yes, there are a few members in the chat who haven't been playing the game as frequently as a concerned user would want (then kick them out and make way for people who actually give a shit), we also have plenty of members who play the game on a near-daily basis. Fortunately, the members who play frequently have more of a drive and sense of today's needs than those who don't play frequently. As a result, V5's content will appear super fresh to the demand a concerned user would be looking for. If this wasn't the case, the three and a half things I described earlier would most likely not exist. You've taken three steps forward in a mile-long journey that was taken LONG ago in the opposite direction of progress.

If you're going to pay attention to one part of that whole mess, make it the big paragraph with red text.

Oh, pay attention to this too while you're at it:

I'm honestly ashamed of playing 8bdm all these years.

To support and play a game made by people who value cliques and e-peen status over REAL quality content is an awful thing to do, and I've kept relatively quiet about it for a very long time. High-up devs have been involved in so much corruption that I often become physically ill if I think about it for too long. The sheer amount of deception, metaphorical dick-sucking to get content in, and mismanagement of a simple non-for-profit game modification is astoundingly out of proportion to how other games are developed. This game has been a perpetual failure not because of a lack of interest in a Megaman FPS, but because this game is run by people who play the game once a month in a private server to test out Copy Robot's newest prettily-colored-cardboard-box map, then give it a thumbs up because they can't tell the difference between good and bad map flow. Those same people then go on to ignore the problems plaguing every gamemode and weapon while simultaneously releasing a whole new horde of imbalanced and unacceptable content for the playerbase to deal with. This game has been continuously slaughtered by the same people for the last 4 years, and it's quite frankly disgusting. The combination of obliviousness and the belief that friendship is worth more than game quality leads to a vicious cycle ultimately ending up with 8bdm suffering, and nothing will change until previous faults are recognized and rectified.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Your least favorite gametype?
« on: March 18, 2016, 10:13:55 PM »
Possession is stupid because movement in this game is too shallow to allow for non-frustrating chasing/running

DM is stupid because charge weapons are overpowered, skill is not rewarded properly, RNG determines how many kills you get before you die, and half the weapons are invalidated.

73
I think a bigger problem is the weapon itself. Atomic Fire is an insanely gamebreaking and game-altering weapon that really never should've existed in the first place. Even if you make it harder to get, it will still remain a problem in all forms of play. I'm not going to go too deep into why it's such a flawed weapon IN THE MAP THREAD but it has a lot to do with the fact that running away is the best strategy in the game.
