My bad, I guess I should've been specific, but it was the first (and before this one, the only) CTF competition.

That brings me back to the argument I made back then, long ago, when they added the super massive and over detailed maps such as Deserted City to the core. That's another story, though.

For the sake of conversation and my curiosity; what makes a community judgement such a bad thing, and what would you rather have in its place?
Wow, okay. I didn't think I needed to explain this one, but I will anyway.

if you can get the numbers to make sure that one person wins a medal and nothing else. congrats then?
This thing right here.

The last time a mapping competition was made in which community votes determined the winner, this is exactly what happened. See, the issue here is that when you throw around the word "competition", it is heavily implied that there will be a set of judges who know what they're dealing with and know what to seek in what they're judging. Fact of the matter is that (with no offense implied) most of the community doesn't know what a good map is. Sure, they can vote for their favorites, but the mappers who spent real time and effort into their maps will be overlooked and nobody is going to learn anything from it. And since there are no actual judges around to give feedback on how to improve the maps, it all amounts to a waste of time after realizing that all the time and effort spent in making your competition map was for nothing. It doesn't even help that the prize for the competition are some meaningless pixels to flash at everybody on your forum posts, but I sure as hell wouldn't call the community's favorite map an architect just because they liked it. If we're going to use specific tastes which vary from person to person, this ain't judging for shit - it's throwing around bias and just making those who didn't win the oh-so coveted medal feel like total shit. Any sane person would assume nobody's got time for that, but hey, if someone still wants to participate in this for whatever fun they might find in doing so that's fine too. I sure as hell aren't, though.

That would most likely greatly help the weapon as being able to aim snakes means they will go up walls faster and be potentially more accurate.

...Oh, nevermind. Thought there was something good happening.

Since Dive Man doesn't appear to describe the weapon and I haven't played the game it's from, what does Shadow Runner exactly do? It doesn't seem to damage enemies. Also, while playing offline as X, every time I switch from the Fourth (?) armor, it just reverts to armorless X and doesn't let me choose the others.

While playing through this offline a bit before I posted this, I found a strange bug in Heat Man's stage. Spoilered because, well... spoilers.

Oh man, thanks for reminding me that I have to get that on my 3DS. Someone brought their GBA SP while I was working over in Alaska, and they had that game. That's pretty much all I played in my (relatively non-existent) free time.

Not even kidding about their used game prices. Right up until the last day GBA games were sold used, the Pokemon games were all still at $35, which is $5 less than a brand new one when it was still cool. Hell, Pokemon HG/SS games were at over $50 used, even though B/W and X/Y were a thing already.

So all Gamestop stores in P.R. closed up and left because of a serious tax issue, from what I've heard. I mean, there's always Walmart and the like, but it was kinda convenient having a Gamestop at walking distance even if I don't buy games nearly as much anymore.

On the other hand, fuck their used game prices. Those won't be missed.

W.I.P Forum / Re: Mega Man Cross X SP [WIP]

Aight, so let me shed some light on this map.

Fire Man CX, as anybody who's played the hack remembers was just a small room containing one of the "O-DRIVE!" letters, a hallway and the boss room. Since Sonicfam wanted a small challenge in each of the maps though, I went for it.

In this map, the mini-challenge consists of three paths, all connected in a single linear gauntlet of increasing difficulty. These paths, though connected, are separated into three sections all of which run a circle around the boss room. When players start the map, they can opt to run straight towards the boss door in front, or take the O-DRIVE! letter challenge by heading to the left after the starting area. However, behind the starting area, there are three platforms and one bigger one. Upon reaching the end of a section, one of the smaller three platforms is raised. By the time players have completed the mini-challenge, they will be able to jump up these platforms to reach the letter part.

Here's a few screenshots showing all of this off better.

So the way each section works is basically adding an element that wasn't present in the previous one, while keeping the element from the previous one. So the first section has Fire Traps and lava, the second adds Fire Pillars, and the final one adds Fire Beams. When a player reaches the end of a section, they'll know because of the green walls and floor not present at the same time in any area of the map. Picture said floor and walls meeting, and that's how a "checkpoint" looks. And I use quotation marks, because if the player dies at any time during the challenge, they must do it all over again! Luckily, it isn't very long or hard, just requires some patience - especially towards the end.

That's about it for this explanation. I hope you'll look forward to this map!

Now then, there's a couple of things people are probably gonna be wondering about, such as the WW sky and (when the mod is released) the boss room. Simply put, having a black ceiling everywhere looks pretty monotonous and can even be a bit disorienting, so I spiced it up a bit.

As for the boss room, I went for accuracy in looks. So if having horizons inside and not being able to see the layout clearly around it bothers some, then I apologize. Another advantage to keeping this look is players not being distracted by everything going around them, so it's not as bad a decision as it looks.  :ugeek:

Aight, let's go one by one.

What do you folks like about the map?

What do you dislike? What would you change about it and why?

I'll answer both of these in one go.

Is it good?
Despite my gripes with the map, it's pretty enjoyable to play on and I often have fun in it, so that's good.

You can now jump out of the purple gel when you're close to the top.
With this piece of information, I ask the most important question on this post:
How can this map be modified to better suit this new change?

Not sure what else I can add besides the suggestions I've already posted, but if you're not keen on adding spikes to the purple gel around Eddie's platform, then perhaps you could add teleporters to the sides under it, which are only reachable if the gel is low enough or if the player dived from a high enough height to reach them.

In fact, I'm not even sure if that gel change is necessary as all the areas with it have a ledge very close to them. Only place I could see this remotely being useful is the area with 3D floors and the gel, and even that's not really frustrating, IMO.

...This is based on the current core map and I was about to post it when I got double ninja'd. I'll provide feedback on the updated map later if necessary.

also please for the love of Arceus bold whoever you're voting for
most people did this (great !!) but Knux didn't do it when he changed his vote in the middle of the post
those kinds of things can be easily passed by if you're not paying attention
I thought you might point this out, and believe me, it was my intention to do that. Thing is, Alice posted after I edited my post once and I didn't want to make it seem like I was hiding anything.

Abstaining at all gives the Mafia an edge. Every turn that someone doesn't die is less of a chance that someone on their side dies, and one more townie who dies.
In addition, bandwagonning without good reason is another surefire way to give the Mafia an advantage.
Vote using logic, people, or we're going to find ourselves in a sticky situation fairly quickly.

Flimsy logic on the first day is fairly okay because you're not really working off of much, you basically have to be super paranoid about everything and everyone and pick up on anything someone says or even doesn't say. Not saying anything is just as suspicious as saying something suspicious.
While all of this is true, you do realize that I'm well aware of this by now having played two other mafia games, and that the fact that you're not even pointing out actual offenses on my part only to vote me off anyway makes you look suspicious yourself? Seems like you bit some bait I didn't even intend on any mafia taking.

In fact, tell you what. The only reason I even voted off Myroc was because the CF votes got old and there wasn't really anything else going on. But now? I'm mafia because I didn't know how to play mafia? Please, get real.

Changing my vote to Beed for the moment, but only because of jumping on a bandwagon the quickest and having enough votes to possibly tie with and save Myroc.

Also, while this has nothing to do with the current discussion:

Hmm.
3 mafia members out of 21 players according to what +b posted.
With that number maybe even getting higher over time ...?
I simply assumed there were already some mafia players before others were converted to mafia, so it worried me that given the amount of players that there would be a relatively higher than usual number of mafia.
