Well after hearing these rumours on a new mewtwo design I quickly dismissed it as a rumour. Now with the full design being shown as Canon and not some late April fools joke I now am very displeased.
When I first heard of new forms, I liked the idea and concept, but at the end of gen 5 it got old, very old and after black and white 2, I was sick of them. Now I find the concept of forms done to death now so when I first heard of a mewtwo form,I was thinking "You've gotta be kidding me" and once I saw the teaser for the new form I thought it was some fan joke, but no, its real.
The design, the design to me is the most appealing factors of pokemon, I generally go for looks when I pick my teams. I'm definitely the only one who is not like this, so because of this visual design is very important to Pokemon in general and in my opinion one of the factors that made mewtwo popular, and what I think what newtwo (what I plan to call this new form) fails on. When you first see mewtwo it is post game and in a cave that was blocked off earlier on. When you finally get to him an odd cry echos and the monstrosity that you lay eyes upon is scary. Gen 1 pokemon were rather simple, and by their standards mewtwo had a complex design. Mewtwo was not scary in the regards as "OH GOD RUN", but the intimidating slow type of scary like, "I can tear you apart and I will" and I feel that his sleek slender, but strong and stern design helps create image of the fact that his battle in gen 1 is the final test.
Newtwo I feel tarnishes this design, and with that design, that feeling that mewtwo created, and while mewtwo was, simple but complex, newtwo feels too simple, and to me at least falls to show anytype of theme or feeling while at least mewtwo's design alone brought the feeling of intimidation.
But who knows, maybe pokemon X and Y may make newtwo the next best pokemon in terms of fan base.
