The WWW board / Chiptune / 8-bit music!
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:05:30 AM »
So you like chiptune, eh? Post any chiptune/8-bit artists you like here. I'll start with some of mine.

umio: Prolific breakcore/drill'n'bass producer. Lots of free downloads, creative stuff across the board.
Sample

Blasterhead: Chiptune composer featured in various soundtracks and on other trance labels, he has some chiptune classics. What's noteworthy is some of his later tracks, like the one here, have a unique introspective feel to them.

Bizen: On his own he does 8-bit arranges of various games, such as Ocarina of Time, which I like for having a rather 'authentic' feel to them. In his circle he releases lounge / chillout music which is also worth checking out.

YZYX: Some Chilean guy.

No, really. <_<

Well, that's a good place to start. You don't have to post all that information; just post songs if you like.

...From the main page, at the least.

I would actually prefer the forum being deleted entirely, but moving it to be a subforum (such as under "General Gaming Discussion") or as a single thread would also be acceptable. Given that most threads in the forum consist of one post, it would make more sense to leave it as a single thread which mugenmidget updates to announce his streams.

Alternatively, he can just let people who are interested check his website. I would imagine that the majority of people who are interested in his streams already check his website. (And that they're in the minority on this website, but that's purely speculation. Let them come forth in defense if they wish. In all fairness, the forum is at best nothing more than an announcement thread for a single user who I see as having no connection to CutStuff, which is why it should go away from the main page.)

He picked music that I would instantly label as "generic electronic weeaboo crap". At least, it was something close to that. I picked this.
And yet, were Galaxy not so kind (or perhaps more informed), he could just as easily label your music "generic indie rock crap". Granted, Japan does have the tendency to produce some unsettling things in the music world (see goreshit above lol), but you have to figure: MM8BDM  is still based off a Japanese franchise. As such, music selected for custom maps would be easy fit if taken from things that sound like similar Japanese video games. Music that's designed to be part of an album/commercial release would have a different intent; it'd be a square peg. Whether or not listening to indie music over Japanese music signifies "better taste" is terribly subjective (and I'd be inclined to disagree). Having a strong taste I would argue is rooted in variety, since listening to a larger variety yields higher diversity. Across this thread I've tried to make each track posted in a different style. There are multiple commercial or 'mainstream' artists I could use in this thread but I don't because I'd rather expose people to something *more* different than what they're probably familiar with.

Honestly, it's greatly bugged me for a while that in order to be a "music fan" you have to listen to things like Radiohead or Animal Collective. Everyone I've met who claims to have good taste or interest in music all listen to that and it gets old. I don't really care what people listen to, as long as it's fresh. That's all I ask for!

Oh yes, and never diss edm. You might make some passing generalizations about Japanese music or what-not, but never against electronica.

If you want to see what I mean, try listening to this track. It's made in Japan, but (hopefully) unique in style.

@Red: Actually he's one of the "better" lolicore artists. (It is really hard to tell sometimes...) Nothing wrong, just a slight appreciation for speedcore or breakcore. Take your pick.

Sscoldre class? What?

Have I missed something?
Yes. You appear to have missed the Offline-Online Skirmish WAD, which includes botchats that mimic CutStuff players. Sscoldre is included as a secret bot. This WAD was not released by xxkirbysonicxx1, nor was he invovled with its creation.

People still try to join the nonexistant Family? I guess I could remake it, but why would we do that, knowing what happened last time...
I think that's a great idea. Starting fresh would give an opportunity for new players to enter the community and feel welcome. After all, when reading posts like this, it's clear that some people still need help getting involved in the community. I would be interested in joining the Family myself.

If you are still doubtful, you may try explaining to me what happened to the old family. That way, I could prepared to prevent a similar problem from arising in the future.

Mega Man Discussion / Which robot master would you want to see as a Navi?
« on: December 12, 2012, 08:14:07 AM »
There are actually quite a few RMs that were never converted into navis for the MMBN series. Which of these would you like to see with EXE redesigns?

Personally I was most looking forward to Gemini and Crash Man. I thought EXE5's battle system with enemies on two sides would've been a great fit for him. (Instead, EXE5 brought us masterpieces like... Lark Man. Ugh.) Capcom did seem to throw us a bone in Star Force, though.

A couple of these have fan-designs courtesy of Higure-san. You can check out his gallery here.

(I've only included RMs from the main games in the poll. You can see the full list here.)

Unfortunately, the image does not meet the conditions to be qualified as "alive". It'll have to settle at the sexiest thing inanimate.

Even the Touhou Cast is getting in on the Holiday Spirit.
I only see one person, which would not denote the context of a "cast". Which one is it, Travis? Which one's getting into the holiday spirit?

My personal avatar is currently Vyers, of Disgaea. We always have to have a few avatars from that franchise running around.

obviously, nothing will happen because god isnt real and your all idiots
Opinions =/= Facts.
Actually, this is factual. Swiss is referring to "all our idiots", insinuating that our idiots are not enough to cause the end of the world. Since he is referring to "god" (and not God, the Judeo-Christian one), he is referring to a god of folklore, such as Quetzalcoatl, whose existence is a proven falsehood.

The end of the world will most certainly be something mundane. Whatever. As long as I make it to the 18th I'll be fine.

ever notice..k so you are on youtube right? you search something random and there is minecraft vids in the corner
unrelated to your search results what's with that???
Youtube changed its format. The "related videos" will typically include a couple of videos that are actually from your "recommended" videos; or videos picked at random that are related to your viewing history.

So typical, to change a perfectly coherent feature into a misleading one. Gizmo is incorrect.

If you're anything like me, you've often wondered where to find the music codes for WADs like CSCM.
You can find all the music codes for any wad (including the core game pk3) by opening the file in Slade3.

You can also rename or replace the said files yourself. Or delete them. (Deleting music files has no effect on the gameplay, other than displaying an error message in the console whenever the music file is triggered.)

Screenshot please or you don't exist.
(click to show/hide)
I assume by "not exist" you mean he's a bot, in which case this screenshot definitely proves otherwise. His frequent posting, profile, and other elements of his account prove beyond a certifiable doubt that he exists as a human user. (I can't post his IP, but I'm sure Korby can if you ask him for logs. Or swordfish. That's always a safe bet.)

Unless, of course, you were referring to his doing of the character designs. Many users of this forum have already proved their capable of making shitty Mega Man edits that vaguely resemble characters from other franchises. In five directions, even! The rest he only stated "most", which could be simply exaggerating. Even so, there's not much beyond to story + script anyway, since it's a Mega Man game! From the trailer, most of the "story" elements were spliced from other games. At least the first 30 seconds or so is recycled from Mega Man 2. It's easy.

Besides, the creator of the game appears to be from Singapore, which would explain away his potential difficulty with the English language.
