MM8BDM Discussion / And a baby. Really. I'd love to see it, X.

If you can find Flash Man's yashichi during "normal play", I'll eat my hat.

77
It's called a yashichi.

It appears in every map in the main game in a hidden location. It serves no function, it's only an easter egg.

1 or 2 stages aren't finished and there still needs to be serious weapon and map testing before it's actually released.
Really? The OP claims that Wily 1 and 2 are finished, which leaves one map left. How much time is going to be spent on that map alone?

Of course it needs "serious testing". Most of the weapons are trash and your maps hardly shine, either. Where are you going to get the "testing" you need short of a release? There are plenty of people waiting to see it and look at it, as opposed to your dev team, who would appear to want nothing to do with it. After all, you've hardly improved any maps or weapons in the entire year they've been sitting around. I doubt the weapons have been fundamentally changed at all! You can continue to make excuses to stall the release, or you can "mann up" and admit you aren't going to release it because it's embarrassing. After all, Jack, why else would you be so dis-interested in it?

It's a nice goal to want to pretty it up first, but it's a terrible thing to use that to hide your desire to abandon the thing. Or not to gain that "quality seal of approval" because you couldn't be bothered to give it to players who would produce feedback. Because getting playtesters is easy. People will lap up content of poor quality if they think they're getting a privilege. Just look at the amount of testers omegazerox had for his map pack. For something as pretentious as RNC? Why, you're golden, my friend.

MM3DW1.

But honestly, I don't think we need a Hub for ONLY duel maps. Duel players would probably stick with the map with more options.
You say that, but duelists like me don't like playing on MM7SPR every one in five maps. Or MM5GYR, or other joke maps. Given the rarity of server hosts editing map rotations at all, I find this a significant contribution to the duel scene. (That is, of course, wouldit catch on.)

Here's 16 stock maps I would consider:

Since when are cultists normal?
Oh.. right.. since Society became corrupted eons ago >.>
Why do you keep referring them as a "cult"? What are they trying to force on you? Bikdark also liked to hold to blatantly wrong ideas as if they were forced down his throat, I'm glad to see you sticking to form. Stop considering CutStuff behavior as "normal" so you can insult the homies.
Quote from: "Donutyoshi"
These homies need to play on CSCM though. How many can imagine that?
You see this, Rozark? THIS is "scary". Why would you encourage a stranger to engage in an activity that makes no sense whatsoever (playing on a map pack composed primarily on heaps of garbage) unless you were in a cult?

This is why the majority of insults CutStuff would like apply to homies are far more suited for themselves.

You are actually proving my point. For that, I commend you. Look at the responses here, ignoring the syntax. RollingPunk is being territorial. He IS bitching because a bunch of new players came in and don't want to play a bunch of shitty game modes. The reaction of homies is appropriate. This game has needed a bump in players for a while now to keep it going. Why would anyone react in such a negative way, unless they were obviously afraid of losing the popularity of their mediocre game mods? It's pretentious, just as you now are expecting homies to lie down and take it from someone like RollingPunk. Should those respondents be nicer about it? I don't think so. RollingPunk is being an ungrateful, hypocritical bastard. Why doesn't HE make a video response if he really wants them to use WADs? Because it's easier to simply attack them in a poor attempt to establish dominance. I'm glad the homies didn't put up with his bullshit, unlike people on CutStuff (such as yourself) who would attempt to justify it.

Ivory's right, though. Just because one guy is a jerk doesn't mean everyone on CutStuff is. But the jerks are by far the loudest and most annoying, so I will address them first.

Let's take any group of fanboys for example. They're generally fine. Now let's take the more common form of fanboys: obsessive fanboys/cult followers (you know the kind of people I'm talking about.) Say one bad thing about their leader, and they'll be ranting all over your ass faster than -insert generic metaphor here-

I've seen enough obsessive cult followers to know that it CAN be dangerous, and no matter how hard I try to get over it, I just can't. Sorry.

New people: For it.
New scary people: Against it.
No, groups of fanboys are always the same: they look past flaws in their object of focus. Unfortunately, the homies are not "fanboys" that you like to pigeonhole them as. Why are the scary? What do they threaten you with? Nothing, because these are actually normal people. For the large part CutStuff are the fanboys, mainly of WADs. They jump into a group of people they don't know and insist on using them. For what purpose? Did anyone stop to consider that these popular game mods aren't very interesting? No, that's not important to them. It's more important to force DoomSeeker/WADseeker on a bunch of new players so you don't lose your WADs. The only "danger" is that you lose your WADs to the vanilla games. Who would be afraid of that? Don't you sound like a fanboy more than they do? It's far easier to pitch the "other side" as a fanboy, but I think it shows much more in CutStuff than it does in any of the homies. Most people here have simply sheltered themselves behind an amazing level of ass-kissing that makes them sensitive to dissent, unable to react to rejections of "the norm" with anything but distress. The homies are behaving as normal people do. It's by and large CutStuff who are selfishly clinging to their WADs.

In the MM8BDM Discussion forum, there's currently eight stickies, most of them are very, very old news. The screenshots and wiki thread aren't updated by Mike any more, the CTF contest is over. Keep the MM8 expansion around as it's the only one still going on. V2C was released over a year ago by now; everyone seems to have it at this point. If you want to keep them you can have them linger around in the help forum, which doesn't have much traffic (ergo stickies wouldn't slow it down), along with the masterserver changes (again, also relatively dated).

I could report all of those threads individually but I bring it here because I think a policy change would be effective overall. A large amount of stickies are ugly and nothing more than clutter after the activity tails off, so keeping the amount of them low (<4) would look more organized.

FORUM rules: They're nice but I think these might not be suited to host a larger community. In the past I've noticed a lot of the moderations / warnings given on this forum come down to "discretion", and that leaves more room for moderated users to argue (which is unnecessary and generally a waste of space). I actually am suggesting this for the moderators' benefit as well; if they have certain things to look for they can act on, their jobs will become smoother and more automated, less discrepancy will occur, and the whole board will be clear on the game. Additionally, laying out guidelines for the moderators will work as well - there have been instances in the past when one moderator acted out of line; but I have never seen anything that explicitly told him not to behave that way; it was only "expected" of him to act better. Rather than leave things up to your (or his) expectations, establishing a firm guideline for his behavior would most likely curb infantile behavior. (Or at least, allow users to report it accurately.)

As for any new forum rules, I think a general policy concerning new members would be nice. My impression thus far of this forum is most of them are introverts who might behave in ways contrary to hospitality; any policy that would encourage old members to be cooperative (or at least, non-hostile) toward new members would be fantastic. Definitely something to consider. Both these issues I bring together because they deal with old, dated topics that need to be purged. The rules have been neglected for an extended period now and I think it'd be nice to remind both new and old users they're still around.

Nah, this isn't very old. Zandronum is the new replacement engine for Skulltag, and you can read about it here.

To correct the OP, megagame.iwad and mm8bdm-v2c.pk3 run just fine on Zandronum alpha.

MM8BDM Discussion / EUROPEANS JUST SO ZETTA SLOW

Why no joust or MM8-10 servers? That's my question.
Shitty mods aren't going to capture people's interest. You might get a few people to play it if you dragged them along.
Quote from: "Sean Nelson"
Why 'is' there so MANY vanilla servers!?!?!
Why can't you use words that describe the plural properly, Sean? Regardless, the reason is new players don't have time to dig through a bunch of chocolatey goo. It's gross.
Quote from: "TheDoc"
I'm hoping the RNC expansion gets released soon so that vanilla online would include it as well.
I posted it on Skype a while ago, it's done and you can get it from me or probably a few others who were around at the time. The 8 stages and weps are done, most likely not going to get edited in the future because it's being manhandled by Europeans. It sucks balls so no one's got the motivation to push it out, even though it's got a sexy BOSS at the end. (You'll realize even after it was posted to the pubs, it never made waves. That's real evidence, dawg. It just ain't there.)

I don't mind new players, I welcome any and ALL who have interest, but when they're involved in this.. cultlike group with a bad attitude.. I don't like it. Perhaps it's too early to tell how this will turn out. Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Dawg, it's time you looked in the mirror. It's not the homies who have the cultlike attitude. They're accepting toward new members, they just want to do things as a group and have fun with their bros. They see a cool game and they made it catch on amongst themselves, and now they're going to enjoy this game as a group.

It's the old CutStuff who is (currently) acting hostile and unreceptive of new players, trying to cling to their cult of mediocrity. They can't see this game and enjoy it as it is with their friends; they need to create mediocre, garbage WADs to wade through, full of amateur sprites, sounds, and scripts. Rather than enjoying the game as it is, they have to add saccharine to it to keep it "fresh" on the enjoyment that they like things solely because they were made by other autistic introverts like themselves. Why is the first thing multiple people here are trying to do is push WADs on the new homies? They don't care about your shit. If you're "afraid" of anything, be afraid of getting left behind in the new age, the wave of homies FRESH enough to move along with the game, not stopping for your WADs.

Glory be to the Homies that SEE!

MM8BDM Discussion / Wadhost doesn't need your crap wads, lol
« on: August 14, 2012, 12:10:41 AM »
Faster than Wadhost is the "Download URL" option, which server hosts can change to the download location of whatever WAD is being hosted.

If there's more than one wad you think people won't have, you might be hosting too many shitty WADs.
