Anything Goes / Re: What is your avatar from/of?
« on: July 16, 2011, 10:57:33 PM »
My avatar is a part of the portrait of The Scream by Edvard Munch. It was pained using oil paints, tempera, and pastels on cardboard. The painting shows an agonized figure against a blood red sky, with the landscape the background being the Oslofjord viewed from the hill of Ekeberg, in Oslo, Norway.

It's not my favorite piece (I personally think the one I put below by Monet is better) but I personally find it enthralling.

Sora, Mrguy891, Poland Man, and I will play at 9:04 PM EST tonight!

Saviorsword has volunteered to host the match for us. Thanks again, Savior!

EDIT: Savior said he would launch the server now and let us play on it in the meantime. At 9:04 EST, however, we begin.

153
Remaining Matches:
KO Round of 16:

Kombat Kitten/Roc's Creation: Kombat Kitten will be available from Sunday onward, while Roc's Creation is currently trying to fix his PC.

Gideon Graves/CutmanMike: These two need to find an appropriate time to play. Gideon Graves is ready, but CutmanMike has been busy lately and needs to find time to play.

-RanRan/Korby: Both of these players have been available, so there should be no reason why this match cannot take place.

Consolation Round of 16:

Darkseed =NEGA=/Foxy Swissy DS: Both of these players have been available, so, again, there should be no reason why this match cannot take place.

[DW] Darkwing Duck/MagnetMan497: They have planned to play today, so I will be expecting a result by the end of today. If this doesn't happen, you both need to get back to me and tell me when you will play.

Current Candidates to fill in for Korby in the Consolation Round of 8: Star Dood, CARE Trollman, Unfaded Nostalgia, Prosecutor Godot, and the final two losers of the consolation 16.

The game between Sora, Poland Man, Mrguy891, and myself (rtist) will probably no longer take place if it isn't played today.

The reasons are as follows:

Sora, Poland Man, and I agreed to meet at 3 PM EST today. I messaged Mrguy891 asking if he'd be available today and he said he would. When I asked him if 3 PM EST today was an ok time to play, he did not respond. Mrguy891 has not been on cutstuff since Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:06 pm EST. The PM I sent to Sora, Poland Man, and Mrguy891 asking if 3 PM EST on Saturday July 16th was sent on Jul 13th, 1:20 AM EST to the other three opponents. Sora and Poland Man responded in the affirmative, but Mrguy did not respond, as he hadn't been online since Tue Jul 12, 2011.

Sora, Poland Man, and I met today at the agreed time, and we PMed one another on where we would meet, and we were going to discuss what map we would play on, but Mrguy did not arrive. We waited until 4 PM EST for him to arrive, but he could not do so. Sora, Poland Man, and I decided we would go ahead with our match, but we had no one to host a server for us.

When OJ decided to help us with a server at about 4:15 PM EST, Sora had to leave then for unspecified business, leaving Poland Man and myself.

The reason I am posting here is because I dunno when Sora will be available later today, and Poland Man will not be able to play next week at all. I dunno where mrguy891 is, so I can't speak for him.

If Sora is available later on today, we need to all plan it together. At this point, I am willing to play with just the three of us, since Mrguy891 is missing. After today, if the game isn't played, it probably won't be played at all (due to Poland Man's absence and MrGuy891's mysterious disappearance).

I'll keep PMing my opponents to come up with a mutually good time to play, but I'm not sure if we will be all able to play within the deadline set by Godot. That's why I'm posting here with what happened just now.

A DM event needs a lot of people willing to work together to make this work. If the players (and the player community) aren't willing to give a little to make it work, it'll fail miserably. That's what happened to the 2v2 classes tournament; that's what will happen to this DM event if the community doesn't band together to make it work.

Korby has accepted the opportunity to replace remchu. He will play -RanRan in the round of 16!

Red, [DW] Darkwing Duck, thanks for volunteering, but you will both remain in the consolation.

With Korby accepting the chance to replace remchu, I will be drawing among those who lost in the consolation round of 16 (who hasn't been forfeited) to determine who would take Korby's spot in the Consolation Quarterfinals. I will do this once the round has finished play.

156
....and I'll keep you informed with ongoing developments concerning this issue. If I do decide to replace Obelisk, you'll probably be the first person I ask to do so.

I might just say the forfeit stands, but I might replace obelisk with you, Sean, if the rest of the quarterfinalists agree to it.

I suppose I can take Obelisk's place if he must be taken out.

I don't know about the rationale for fill-in's, so I'm just offering since we were competing for the same spot.
This wouldn't be unreasonable, but I usually give players every opportunity to come back and play their games. I'll be giving Obelisk the same opportunity before I would advance you in his place, Sean.

At some point, you have to draw a line at when you will stop replacing players. I'm doing it for this round, and I might do it for the Quarterfinal rounds (for both the main bracket and the consolation), but after the QF round, I won't be making replacements.

I'm doing it for the Round of 16 because I felt it was fair to provide an opportunity to a player in the consolation the chance to "play up" so to speak if I felt they had earned it. That is exactly what I am doing right now.

I don't know if I will replace people for the Round of 8 yet because the bracket I would have made is random. If Sean advances, I would have to change the bracket. I have no problem doing that, but I'd have to change it in such a way such that if Obelisk came back, the remainder of the tournament would still hold true to the form that I wish it to hold.

I won't completely dismiss this idea, but don't hold your breath, Sean....

Sigh... Well, I tried...

Argh, this tourney has left me bad memories as well... I now detest Shadow Man's stage completely...

I suppose I'm not lucky, either, considering no one is fighting Ran.

Oh well... I wouldn't get very far anyway. I'm not exactly a 'skilled' player, and, although I am improving, recent pressure from parents and their calls for social interaction have shut down most attempts to play for the time I would like to.

If anyone doesn't deserve to be back in, it's me, considering how much I've been complaining. I was simply distraught and desperate for another chance to prove myself, which, in turn, fell short, too...

I was grabbing at air, simply put. And even if I was able to compete again, it wouldn't mean much. I'd probably lose again, anyway...
I wouldn't rule out a return to the tournament for you just yet; with Remchu being forfeited, it's caused some real chaos as to who will replace him.

After looking at the list of potential replacements, the list looks like this now:

1) Korby
2) Magnetman497
3) Red
4) [DW] Darkwing Duck
5) Darkseed =NEGA=
6) Star Dood

There were many more players on that list, but since they all declined, they have since been removed. I'm not saying it'll happen, but since you want back in so badly, I will arrange for you to play -RanRan if Korby, Magnetman497, Red, [DW] Darkwing Duck, and Darkseed =NEGA= all decline.

EDIT: Red has accepted the bid to replace Remchu. If Korby and Magnetman497 all decline the option to play in the KO Round of 16, then Red will get the nod.

However, there are still some other players on thin ice that might be forfeited; Dood, you might yet replace a player who may be forfeit, so don't give up just yet.

159
Okay, I'm prepared to make a verdict on the matter of the players who are guilty of stalling the matches taking place in the round of 16 (currently Remchu, Unfaded Protoman, and Ninja/Samurai Sister)

Basically, I'm going to forfeit all three of these players now, but for entirely different reasons.

Remchu: He's been away for nearly four weeks and has shown no sign of a return. Therefore, he is forfeited and banned from any future events I host. I personally don't understand why he would do this, given the fact that he had made it to the Knock-Out Round of 16 and having done so well up until this point. It makes no sense.

Unfaded Protoman: I'm going to forfeit him now because it's clear, due to circumstances beyond his control, that he will not be able to finish this tournament. Therefore, I'm forfeiting him now. He will still be welcome to play in the tournaments as normal, but if those circumstances occur again, he will be warned (call this a half-warning, if you will).

Ninja/Samurai Sister: Her technological problems are preventing her from playing her matches. Therefore, I'm going to forfeit her officially now. She had made this known for a while now, and I wanted to give her time to make a comeback. I don't see it happening, so I'm forfeiting her. Again, she'll still be welcome to join future tournaments I host, but will be half-warned (just like Protoman was).

Now that this leaves a gap in the KO Round of 16, I am going to choose a replacement from the Consolation matches to take over for Remchu. I am first going to offer for Korby to take over for Remchu if he so wishes, because he was in 3rd place in Group B (which is the group that Remchu was representing).

So Korby now has a choice: play in the KO Round of 16 against -RanRan, or remain in the Consolation 16 and move on to the Consolation 8 via forfeit of Protoman. Korby, the ball is in your court.

Should Korby refuse, I would then offer the KO 16 spot to Magnetman497 (4th place in Group B).

Should MagnetMan497 refuse, I would then offer the spot to Unfaded Sora (since he had the best record of anyone who didn't make the KO Round of 16 at 3-3 overall and 1 FD).

EDIT: If Korby accepts the KO16 bid, then that would mean there would be a gap in the Consolation (Korby would be playing up and Protoman is forfeit), so I would be choosing at random a lucky loser to fill in the last spot in the Consolation 8. The lucky loser would be a player who lost in the Consolation Round of 16, and the selection would be at random.

EDIT: Unfaded Sora declined the offer to replace Remchu, so the next in line after Unfaded Sora, based on group stage performance, would be MetalManU, who finished in Group G at 2-4 with a -4 FD. Should he accept, Prosecutor Godot would move on to the Consolation 8 in MetalManU's place.

In fact, the order I would offer to replace Remchu currently runs like this:

1) Korby (for being 3rd in Group B)
2) Magnetman497 (for being 4th in Group B)
3) Red (2-4 -8 FD, Accepted)

So if Korby and Magnetman497don't accept the option to replace Remchu, then Red will replace Remchu in the KO Round of 16.

I'M BACK FROM MY LONG-ARSED ABSENCE!!

And now I have a question for all of you...

If you would have a megaman weapon in real life, what would it be and why?
I'd have the chargeable mega buster, for its overall versatility.

Based on what Bluebrawl said, Muzaru an him will be playing tomorrow at about 2-3 o' clock. I have no clue what time zone, but that is what Bluebrawl told me.

And I was thinking about this for a while rtist, and something about yours and Savior's match has been bugging me, and no, I'm not calling for a redo or anything. I really think Savior should have won Gravity Man's stage.  He had you trapped, and just because you used Junk Shield, you kind of had an 'escape' out of there. Not saying you did it on purpose, but I'm thinking, for future matches, if someone uses Junk Shield, can we make it instead a +1 to the other side?
+1 to the offended side as opposed to -1 to the offending side, you mean?

The reason why I had the rules set up to be -1 to the junk shield user is because there is no way to tell whether the junk user was near death when he used the shield. If he wasn't near death and he used it, you would be suggesting to reward the offended player for a kill that they didn't earn. In my game against savior when I accidentally triggered junk shield during a weapon switch (with the mousewheel), I still had 3/4 health at the time.

I didn't want to reward players for frags that they didn't earn; rather, I wanted to punish the junk user for defending himself in an illegal way. That's why I had arranged in the rules to make it -1 to the user of the junk shield.

I might consider for future events to make this either -1 to the user or +1 to the offended party, but I'm hoping the next released version of this game will have the problem of junk shield for dueling corrected by then, so we won't have to revisit this issue.

Okay so as I see it, here is the situation for the remaining matches:

Main bracket:

Kombat Kitten/Roc's Creation: KK is unavailable until this coming Sunday. I haven't seen Roc in a while. He was last on here on the 12th of July.

Gideon Graves/CutmanMike: I believe that Cutty is having some tech issues right now. GG (thatguy) is still hanging around, waiting.

Unfaded Muzaru/Bluebrawl: Where the heck is Muzaru? Bluebrawl has been waiting to play him, and Muzaru has been on here recently!

-RanRan/Twin Blade Remchu: Remchu has been out for the last several weeks. He is a candidate for automatic forfeit should he not appear by tomorrow. --Remchu will likely be forfeit and perhaps replaced if he doesn't contact me by July 15th.

Consolation Bracket:

Darkseed =NEGA=/Foxy Swissy DS: Why hasn't this game taken place? Both players, as far as I know, are still out playing the game and not each other.

Korby/Unfaded Protoman: I just got a PM from Protoman explaining his situation and that he is currently on hiatus. He might be forfeit should he not be able to meet the deadline. --Protoman will likely be forfeit if he doesn't play either by the new deadline or if the other consolation matches finish before then.

Unfaded Sora/Ninja/Samurai Sister: Ninja/Samurai Sister is currently on hiatus due to tech issues; she is in line to be forfeit (as she requested). --Ninja/Samurai Sister will likely be forfeit if she doesn't play either by the new deadline or if the other consolation matches finish before then.

[DW] Darkwing Duck/Magnetman497: Anyone seen Magnetman497? He has been on cutstuff recently. Also, anyone seen [DW] Darkwing Duck (darkwing reimu) recently?

I will PM (again) the remaining pairing match-ups to see if I can help adjust what is going on. In order to do that, I will give an extra week to these 8 match-ups to be finished. The new due date for the matches is July 22nd.

I do this only because it is necessary; if the matches are not finished by then, I will accelerate the tournament by forfeiting players as I see fit and (potentially) banning players from future tournaments I host. I hope that this will not be necessary.

As for substituting Remchu for someone else, I have thought about this already. I haven't made up my mind whether I will allow him to be subbed for another player, but if I do, I will post here again with that decision in mind.

EDIT: I have PMed the necessary people to encourage them to play their matches.

How exactly would forfeits work?
Well, Remchu and Ninja/Samurai Sister have been inactive for a while (the latter due to tech issues), so I would forfeit them both should they fail to contact me before the deadline.

Then again, if I extend the deadline a week, perhaps I should extend their possible stay as well. I might not forfeit them yet; I'll wait until July 15th until I make a decision to either forfeit them or extend their stay (given I extend the round to begin with).
