MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM Funnies
« on: January 21, 2013, 07:09:01 PM »
A funny league situation: a few days ago, Saviorsword and Giantmega.exe dueled. Savior chose MM8AST, and the players dueled. Afterward the game was over, and during the results intermission, Giantmega.exe chose MM6MRX. Oddly enough, the next random map chosen was MM6MRX.

What are the chances?

UPDATE: I've included a new tiebreaker to better facilitate the tiebreaks: overall frags allowed. The new language changes rules 7) and 22) to a degree. The new language is as follows:

I'm also considering amending the rules such that points are awarded to players who win or lose. It'd be two points for a win and one point for a loss. Unplayed games would get 0 points. If I do make this revision, it'd require me to amend the rankings. Still, it's a change I will likely make, so be aware.

Nostalgia has contacted me and indicated that he won't be available to play his games before the new deadline. Because this change was made after the fact, I'm only issuing a warning for failure to maintain a commitment. Nostalgia will still be eligible to rejoin the leagues in season 2 if he so chooses.

Light (cutstuff alias: Senkle) will take Nostalgia's place in the 2nd division of play.

For a real manly game, can you do a stream of Battletoads for the NES?

If you can beat that game, you're a god.

...and I am a god.

He should be back tomorrow, though I must admit I've never been big on the idea on actively letting banned members into community events.
My understanding is that he wasn't banned when he signed up, and then got banned while the event was in progress.

Rejected / Re: [Suggestion] Junk Shield Counters and Notes

Know what would be good? A list of the maps that have Junk Shield with no electric weapons/counters. That way, we can look at what weapons are in those maps already, and hopefully get something done about it. In fact, that probably should have been in the opening post.  :|
Good plan; I'll do this, but I'll post my findings here. Note that this is for the DM maps only and not for the CTF maps:

MM7BUR: lacks an electrical weapon, but has metal blade. That's a pretty quick weapon, so I dunno if anything else need be done here. Then again, this map is difficult to play in the first place, and may be in need of a makeover in general.

MM4DUS: has an electrical weapon of dubious value (spark shock). Also has super arm. Might need an adjustment.

MM5GRA: has an electrical weapon (thunder bolt) and a fast weapon (yamato spear); don't think any changes need be made.

MM8GRE: has an electrical weapon (thunder bolt); don't think any changes need to be made.

MM3HAR: no electrical weapon or fast weapon (changes pending per CutmanMike's discretion).

MM2HEA: no electrical or fast weapons, but has atomic fire, which can be a one-shot kill. Do changes need to be made?

MM1ICE: no electrical weapons (surprising since thunder beam is Iceman's weakness), but there is Needle Cannon. Also, Eddie is present here.

MM7JUN: has an electrical weapon (thunder bolt); don't think any changes need to be made.

MM2MET: has electrical weapons (thunder beam, thunder claw); no need for changes here.

MM7SPR: no electrical weapons, but there is metal blade and yamato spear; dunno if any changes need to be made.

MM7DW1: has an electrical weapon (thunder bolt); don't think any changes need to be made.

Do you not listen? Electric weapons pierce it, rapid fire weapons make short work of it. Stop saying it can't be countered. At most, the weapon sets on maps that feature Junk Shield need to be looked at, but the weapon itself is not the problem.
Dude, you're not listening to me. I know electric weapons pierce it and rapid weapons trump it; what I'm saying is there are maps like MM3HAR that lack both of those, making junk shield easy to abuse.

I don't mind junk shield (read my OP; I don't think Junk should be changed); what I do mind is the fact that there are some maps that lack the necessary tools to counter said shield.

Is it really that hard for people to get that its a nice hugger that also gives protection
I can understand it; I don't understand why there's no counter for it to prevent its abuse.

Even mirror buster has counters. Snakes can still damage the player in spite of the mirror. Gemini is adjusted, too. Leaf shield, where it is present, has counters available (I could be wrong, but I don't recall any maps in which Leaf Shield can't be countered; lots of fire/cutting weapons).

It stands to reason that there should be a counter for junk shield on maps in which it is present.

Question: does a charged atomic fire shot kill a person who is using junk shield? If so, this might be an alternative.

jeez im rusty, i need to get better, havent dueled in 8 months
The deadline to play the games needed is March 1st, 2013. If you feel like you aren't ready to play when someone comes calling, just say as much. As long as the games are played before the deadline, I'm not going to care so much as to when.

I've only been encouraging games and keeping an eye out for other people online so people can play their games if they should wish to. It's all too easy for two people to be online at the same time and just miss them because players are doing other games (saxton hale, DM, classes, etc.), so I'll continue to keep an eye out as best I can.

That's another thing: if you want to play specific opponents, it's better either to PM them here or, if they have skype or instant messaging, to use said services to contact them. That way, players can arrange to meet at their convenience. I know some players are only available at certain times of the day, so it's even more important to remain in contact with your peers to make sure the duels in question can be arranged.
