A writing-based equivalent to 'anyone's art thread'? This seems right up my alley. I've been exercising my narrative ability recently, so I've got several things to potentially post at a later date.
In the meantime, I was bored, so I wrote up a paragraph related to MM8BDM; it's based on my experience in the unfinished MM8BDM Olympic Games.
(Context: Last Man Standing, MM7SLA, 3 lives, two players remain, final round)
One life of three remaining.
Shade had thought he saw his only remaining opponent, Tangent, listed twice in the obituaries, so that meant he had one life remaining too. And this was the last round, to boot.
"This is it," he uttered to himself. Things were getting tense, and the nearby robot dinosaur's loud stomps weren't helping his nerves. He walked across a rocky outcrop, hopped over a stream of water, all while making sure to look in every direction at all times. No sight of his opponent. Suddenly, his earpiece started buzzing. He was getting a call from Tangent! The option to talk to other players during the game was always an option, but no one used it mid-battle for obvious reasons. And yet...
Shade answered the call.
"Hey, what's up?" Tangent's voice crackled.
"What do you think?" Shade responded, unimpressed.
"Well," Shade could tell Tangent was grinning as he spoke, "judging from the background noise on your end, King Gajuras is on the prowl again?" he burst into laughter.
Shade ended the call in a panic. Cripes! he thought, I shouldn't have answered that, I just gave away my position...Trying to make the most of his situation, he struggled to think of what noises were on his opponent's end. Rushing water...but that describes half the stage!
His earpiece started buzzing again. Reluctantly, he answered once more.
Tangent was still laughing. "Sorry, that was an admittedly-cheap way of getting you to reveal your position. But how about I make it up to you? I'll be waiting for you where the two waterfalls meet. And to make things interesting..."
Shade heard the familiar, yet obnoxious sound of leaves brushing against leaves on his opponent's end.
"Leaf Shield..." Shade uttered.
"Yep!" Tangent yelped, gleefully. "I want you to equip yours and we can have a Leaf Shield-only showdown. It'll be a legendary way to end the event."
Shade paused. "Why, because we'd exorcise all notions of camping, cowardice and generally defensive strategies from Last Man Standing, a game mode all about camping, cowardice and generally defensive strategies by using a defensive weapon offensively?"
"Uh, no," Tangent said, dryly. "You're looking too much into it. I just thought it'd be cool."
Shade grimaced. "Screw that, then!" he yelled with feigned incredulity. "If you didn't have any overly-symbolic intentions with that suggestion, I don't want any part in it. I will kill you with my unrestricted weapon selection."
"Spoilsport," Tangent uttered. Shade imagined him sticking his tongue out as he spoke. "Well, you don't have to use Leaf Shield, but I will be."
The brushing of leaves continued until the call ended.
"Where the two waterfalls meet, huh..."
(Tangent is a made-up character, but his role is based on SmashBroPlusB, who really was my final opponent in the preliminary round of the LMS event in the MM8BDM Olympic Games)
