from your description of it being mostly weird and not being a game but an experience, it sounds like earthbound.

also, most 3d sonic games I never liked, mostly for their voice acting and control. I can't stand the characters or the majority of the fanbase, and the levels bore me to death. I never saw the appeal in them honestly.
