What is this even?
Another mediocre, unoriginal roleplay? Boo, we have enou-
nopeWelcome, writers, to a legitimate, character-driven roleplay group
well, what is intended to be, at least! Things here will become much clearer as I get this on its feet, but let's say that this is relatively similar to the previous Cutstuff War, with a few notable changes to make things more interesting and less... hrm, confusing.
An MM-centric RP! Yes, that should do it. Canon characters will allow anyone to jump in and play along (with a bit of writing ability, obviously), but we can open the floor to OCs as well, if that's where we feel comfortable.
Plot wise, I have an idea or two in mind, but I'd like to open the floor to suggestions as far as what brings all of the RMs back together, and what they'd be doing / destroying / saving the planet from.
Now, this can be done one of several ways:First, we have the "tried and true" method of putting up a single thread where everyone will likely get confused by multiple settings and character interactions, godmodding will be unfiltered, and who even gives a damn about what posting order is anyway
Secondly, multiple threads could be opened for different locations, scenes, or individuals.
This would likely require a subforum so as not to spam the board with "oh those crazy roleplayers are at it again". Manageable, but I myself am not sure that a request like that would go through without proof of a sizable group of players.
Just as well, this would have to be monitored / moderated, and from experience, that's not something that I could do on my own.
This could also be moved to another forum entirely, but that's up to general vote. If it's a short-term thing, then probably not a good plan.
Third, and likely most complicated option, is real-time play via Skype, or possibly even 8BDM itself.
Likely, someone with free time to kill will have to keep a log of some kind, be that a document C/P'd from Skype or from the server Rcon log. I have no problems doing either of these, but a small team of moderators (maybe two or three others) may be necessary for this. A separate thread will be put up for the mod(s) to post the logs so that players can keep track of current events and where other characters are.
Among other things, an in-game server would require a password to keep greifers away, and possibly a custom mod to discourage unwanted fragging. Player combat will likely be allowed, so long as there's a reason for it, and it may be moderated.
Timezones may be an issue as well...
Cool beans...
Wait, we must have rules!1: Be respectful, ethical, and fair. If you have a problem with someone, settle it elsewhere.
2: Please, keep it PG-13. Mild language may pop up, but it's easily replaced with words like "scrap"/"frag"/"slag".
3: Be realistic. These are robots, not humans. They can eat, sleep, and breathe aesthetically if they choose to, but they are not required to and do not rely on these things to live. Robots don’t bleed oil like it’s blood, they don’t suffocate in smoke, they don’t drown underwater. Robots are unlikely to have fully removable armor unless they are designed for extensive human interaction. There are always exceptions, but be reasonable and realistic, not just with robots, but with the environment in general.
4: Keep your posts neat and readable. Try to put thought into your posts and your writing; constant one-liners or thoughtless posts are frowned upon. Use spellcheck and your best grammar.
5: Keep away from the shallow and cliche. Put thought into your characters and their actions. Make them dynamic. Make them someone other characters will want to interact with.
6: No godmoding. No powerplaying. Don’t OP your character unless they are OP in canon. Don’t irreversibly damage characters, property, or anything else without discussing it with them first. Talk OOC (through PM) about it with the other player if you are unsure or need permission.
7: Concerning overpowered/major characters: These will be restricted access, available only to members who can prove that they can handle them. In order to apply for one of these characters, you will need to have played one other
canon character actively for a minimum of two months. Once these requirements have been fulfilled, send your app through PM.
Do not post an application for a restricted character in this thread.Restricted characters are as follows:Dr. Light
Dr. Wily
Dr. Cossack
Proto Man
Mega Man
Roll
Bass
Duo
Evil Robot/Oud
King
Sunstar
Terra
Apollo
Ra Moon/Ra Thor
8: Be active (enough.) If you’re going to be gone for more than two straight weeks, send us a message saying when you think you will be back. If you’re absent for more than two weeks without giving us any notice, or if you’ve been gone for more than a month after declaring hiatus, we have the right to give your character slot away (if you’re playing a canon character) The psasword is Asimov. We’re unlikely to boot you if you let us know and try to work it out first. If your posts suggest you are inactive overall you can expect to hear from us about being more active or dropping.
9: You may take on an additional canon character only after playing the last one you took on for at least one month. Once you take on any canon character, you will not be able to take on another canon one until one month later. OCs do not count toward this in any way.
10: You are not your character. IC =/= OOC. Don’t self-insert into your character. Don’t take IC actions as personal attacks against you OOC. What you know OOC doesn’t filter to your character IC. Respect the fourth wall.
11: Don’t do stuff that isn’t listed here but that you shouldn’t do because of common sense.
12: Enjoy yourself. It’s way more fun that way, and that’s what everybody's here to do. Seriously. Laugh, smile, have fun with your character(s) and relax.
Sounds cool!
How I join?Simple, really. Just fill out one of these:
Character’s name: (and model, if any (DWN/DLN/ect))
Character’s personality and interests: (MMKB is helpful for getting a grasp on a canon character. Please be detailed, especially if this is an OC.)
Character’s background: (Again, be detailed, but try to keep it brief. Please include purpose if they are a Robot Master or other working robot)
Character’s weapons: (if any)
Define or describe your roleplay style and interests: (how long are your posts? How is your literacy? What kind of
Timezone: (Yours)
Please state the password: (you can find it in the rules!)
Anything else: (headcanons for the character, any limits you may have IRL that may affect your RPing, ect.)
Post your application here, or send via PM to yours truly, and you'll be notified in a short time.
If you're applying for an OC, please,
please be sure to note the following...
1: OCs are notoriously difficult to play, especially in a canon setting with canon characters. When you play an OC you are basically introducing a character that nobody really knows anything about, so it becomes your job to give them as much detail as you can.
2: Your OC should offer something unique. There is no reason to have an original character in the group if they don’t bring something special to the table. If your character could replace or take the role of an existing canon character, do not app for them; app for that canon character, instead.
3: Make your character interesting. Everything in your character should have a meaning and purpose. They shouldn't be perfect, and they shouldn't be so overly-dramatized that they’re not believable. Your Robot Master should also never be more powerful than a canon RM (i.e. faster than Quick Man, sturdier than Hard Man). A general rule of thumb is that if you find yourself comparing your OC with a canon character, you may want to rethink where you're going with it.
4: When in doubt, ask. Everyone can improve on their character in some way. Critique is a part of success. Do not be afraid to ask how your character can be improved!
I know, it's a lot to read/take in. Questions and comments are open, as are plot suggestions and how we should proceed. Here's to the writers!
