Anything Goes / Re: Where did you get your name?
« on: May 14, 2011, 12:12:15 AM »
For some reason I like Tails more than Sonic. My favorite is Knuckles, but most people always pick the bada$$ characters.

I also usually make things up, so thats where the "Tales" part of my name comes from :D

EDIT! I will now put the download link to the map. Also, I'm going to run a testing server in a moment. Join!!!

Why isn't it working? I can find it in the regular MM8BDM game by typing Map TUR01. Now when I host it it says map TUR01 doesn't exist :/ can someone help me?

This is one of the most simple things you can do. Please, don't make us shove the info down your throat.

Well, obviously I can't do it, so it's not that simple.

Adding music to your maps using Slumped
New Lump.
Name it "MAPINFO"
Use the template that you can find in the previous tutorial.
Save changes and you're done.

I'm still really confused. Can't you do a step by step?

And there's more you havent told us. For instance, how would we make the music work using the MAPINFO text? Do I find a file and put it into the Music folder, then say the name in MAPINFO? And how would we make the Map work in the Maps folder? So confusing!!!

They're pretty decent. I was happy to see Ness in SSB (assuming that I'm right about him being in Earthbound) and the Earthbound series is pretty great. :D

Oblige is used for singleplayer map layouts, which (currently) MM8BDM has no business with really.

Although that is true, I have found that going into Doom Builder and making more spawns would help. lol.

The only thing we would need for it to work is for the map gen to change its function so that it makes a map with the textures and sprites and such for MM8BDM.

Not that anyone wants this anyways....

I was honestly hoping this community wouldn't learn of oblige.
Now I ask you take my word. A good map comes from actual thought, thinking up of a layout, then making it work. Using a map generator doesn't make you a good mapper, I don't care if you "edit it" if it's not made from your own head, it's not your map.

Quality vs Quantity.

Oblige does the things I bolded. You change how the map may or may not turn out by choosing if you have hallways, lakes and ponds, pillars, sub-rooms, etc. You also choose monsters, weapons, ammo, health, etc. And when I say that it makes a map, I never stated it would be YOUR map. I was merely suggesting this because it could help people get better map ideas.

Actual Thought = Lots
Layout = Lots
Making it work = Definitely

Oh please no. We don't need randomly generated maps that people put absolutely no work into on this forum.

Well, that's where the map editing comes in. The engine itself could generate the shape and rooms and such of the map, then us map editors can go into it and make any changes we see fit.

But, when you think about it, randomly-gened maps are fun. Take my vid for example. I STILL cant beat it, but it's fun nonetheless. :D

Maps / Re: How do you add secret bosses in a map

You're pretty wrong, tails. Actually, all the bosses actions are in a compiled script. So, Guess? You can't see it. Also, if you actually saw the map, each boss is assigned by different teleports. They can only be activated by defeating specific level. So, for example, to unlock yellow devil, first you need to defeat MM1DW2 level in order to enter to that teleport (It only works in single player). Making bosses are very, very hard or pretty, pretty easy, But that depends of the user.

Each boss is different from each other. For example: Yellow devil and Guts dozer are just linedefs and sectors imitating the body, and a spawner that launchs different weapons. Doc robots, killers, and dark man 4 are just bots that have an specific weapon and works with it (Use in console summon mirrorbusterwepboss, and you're gonna understand it better). So, in order to make your "boss", first you need to know what is the mimic of the boss you're gonna use.

I need to learn more facts, lol. But like I said, I was just throwing out a guess. You can derp me.

I can put a video up for what it's like. Lemme find a vid of oblige.

Edit: It's a vid I made earlier today. Basically it shows me walking around part of a level I made in Oblige.

I could provide pictures too if need be :D

I'm pretty sure you need to go into the game's wad file with SLumpEd, then find the boss files and export them. Then you can load them into DoomBuilder and use them.

But, I'm just doing a guess. That's most likely how it will work.
