The skin looks great, Manibogi; I can put it in a pk3 for you.  I'll also send you a copy of the finished file as well, if you want; just don't distribute separately it before the expansion is finished.  :geek:

Mr. X, thanks for bringing that up again-- Pengi looks great so far, and I can feature it on the front page for a while to see if someone will take it on.

Does anyone know whether Smash the Echidna is still working on/has finished the music for the expansion?  If he's not still around, I guess I could find the OST on the Internets someplace...

I really like the idea of using the altfire to discard your weapon, and of having a star be dropped that someone else could pick up; that sounds pretty cool!  Maybe the star should only come out when people discard it on purpose with the altfire, though (if that's possible), instead of any time you change powers.

For Hyper, would there be a way to make it work simultaneously with the player's previous weapon, or would it work better to just have it be a separate weapon entirely?  Also, it might be neat to have it so that when you run through people with it, they fly off in Wind Storm/Old Gravity Hold fashion.

Also also, I think that having a visible sword/hammer/star rod for the weapons where that would be applicable would be a really good idea as well, if people could make it work without inducing a whole lot of lag.

Manibogi, I do think the green frames look cool, but I would probably support your using the blue ones, since not having blue on the hurt frames might bother some players...

And, Sora, I'll put you down for Bomber then.  Looks... uh... good so far!  Thanks!

Also also also, I was thinking about it, and I realized that there's a clearer, less ambiguous way to lay out the whole weapons thing into three separate questions (though some options kind of preclude the others):

1) Should the powers be implemented as weapons, or morphing classes?
2) Should the player have multiple weapons usable simultaneously, or just one?
3) If just one, should the player equip the power immediately upon pickup, or be able to hold on to multiple powers in reserve, as Proto/Bass Buster items?

Immediate pickup seems a little restrictive, but it might also allow for cool stuff, like those Sleep-filled trap rooms from the games, as well.  :geek:  Anyways, I think the consensus so far seems to be pretty universal for weapons, rather than classes, for having one weapon at a time, and for the ability holding weapons in reserve I think...  So unless there is a lot of disagreement suddenly, we may not need a poll after all.

If someone could make up a Kirby hand and some weapon/health meters for the HUD (since we'll probably have those any way we go), I can add them to the first post for weapon designers to use.  Does anyone have ideas about the weapons icons?  I don't know how flexible the Skulltag HUDs can be.

Manibogi, those sprites look great so far-- thanks for working on that!  As far as the walking sprites, I might go with the main ones, since even though the others are more like the ones from the game, the main ones seem to make a bit more spatial sense.  As a suggestion, you might remove some of the pixels from the groove on top of his head for the front/back frames, so that it matches that in the diagonal ones.

I don't know if it would help any (and maybe you've already seen these), but you might be able to make use of these sprites from other Kirby games as inspiration.  Maybe you could work that green, glowy thing he does into the skin as his hurt frame.

And thank you for working on all those weapons, DarkAura; that's a huge help!  I'll add those to the front page next time I can update it.  I would guess that Hyper should come into effect immediately after pickup; it might be too overpowered if people could save it for later.

Also, both to Lio and DarkAura, sorry things have been a bit disorganized so far for weapons.  I'm not really sure what could be done about the HUD, besides just having a Kirby hand (which I think could work, if done right); for the palettes, though, where the games do not have a canonical color for a weapon already (yellow for Beam, blue for Freeze, brown for Stone, etc.), I think that it would probably be okay for the weapon designers to decide for themselves.

For the whole trophies thing, my plan was to make a poll to get some sort of general consensus before deciding.  But first, I'll list the possibilities that I'm aware of so far, so that people have the opportunity to make other suggestions before I set up the poll.  So far, I have:

1) Ordinary MM8BDM-style weapons

2) Proto Buster/Bass Buster style weapon pickups only, which would replace your main weapon; multiple could be held as items in the inventory at one time, but only one could be actively equipped (something along the lines of the stomach thing in Kirby Squeak Squad). [Shade Guy's idea]

3) Roboenza-type class-morphing weapons.  This would actually involve making the different weapons into different classes, with different attributes (like armor, jump height, etc.).  This could work either through item pickups (so that several could be carried at a time), or through class-morphing upon contact with trophies, without pickups (like how it works in the game).

Probably the more outlandish options would be more interesting, and allow for new kinds of in-battle strategies, but at the same time it might make the expansion less compatible with the main MM8BDM game, and the existing body of add-ons.  I don't personally have any experience with the nitty-gritty of Skulltag programming, so please correct me if any of these options are impractical/impossible.

Go ahead, Star Dood, that sounds good!  If you had anything done already on Hothead, you might post it for the next person, but it's fine if you didn't.

Also, Kapus, having thought about it a bit, I tend to agree with you about the map number-- having one map per world would probably be less redundant and a bit more achievable, besides being likely more polished.  One exception might be for CTF maps, though, since if we decide to have any, they wouldn't be compatible with the other game modes.

Also, I'll keep working on Poppy Bros. Jr.  Do you think the alternate skin for him sounds like a good idea?

Im going to continue my Butter Building Stage since I already have the textures, but I was kinda wondering. Are there suppose to be 3 stages for each world, if not what are the three squares for beside the world pictures for.
Thank you for continuing that, Duora!  The squares are indeed supposed to stand for different maps for that world, but the fact that there are three doesn't actually mean anything.  I just meant them to signify that there could be multiple maps per world-- we could have more or fewer than three, depending on how many maps people want to make.

Bondman, are you going to update the front page?
I am, but since it's made up of picture files, and takes a bit more time to update, I had only been planning on doing it once or maybe twice a week.  I'll do it now, though, since I have time.

Also, I've been a-working on the Poppy Bros. Jr. skin-- what do you guys think so far?  The only thing I think looks off is the smile on his side frames; everything else I'm pretty happy with.  On the right I have some apple rotations (not quite done yet), and I was going to ask what everyone would think of having an alternate "apple-rider" Poppy skin, just for fun.

(And if anyone wants to use the apple rotations for a falling apple actor, they can.)

I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but if it helps you guys with ripping tiles from the sheets on The Spriter's Resource, there's a program called Mappy Tile Editor that can break up a bitmap into tiles, remove repeated ones, and output a final image file.  I've used it in the past, and it seems to work pretty well.

EDIT:  Also, do you want me to take Whispy off the list?  My thought was that even though he is an implemented actor in the game, it wouldn't hurt to have him as a skin as well, in a Gutsman-G sort of way; plus then we could have a full set of boss skins.  But I can also see the neatness in having him just be an actor.  I do appreciate Mr. Joe's offer, though.

Incidentally, does the Whispy actor drop apples from above and blow players around?  That would be pretty cool.

Thank you Brawlman!

And anything you can do will be appreciated, Sora.  Thanks!

Also, thank you, too, Gummywormz-- I guess I forgot to put you down for those.  But I think there was some discussion about the format of the weapons, so I'm going to try to set up a poll about it before too much gets done, so that no one has to go back and redo all of their work.

Sorry, I haven't gotten around to starting it yet...  I wanted to make it somewhat fancy-ish, so I was holding off until I had time to do that.

Buuut... I think I'll be able to have it up by the end of the weekend, at least, if not before. :geek:

EDIT:  Arr, the new topic be up now, matey! viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3522
Sooo... I guess this one can be locked now if it needs to be.

Well, if it's okay with you guys, then, I guess I'll get started.  Would you actually want it in a separate thread?  I think that might be the most convenient thing, rather than making Korby edit the front page all the time.

Also, I'd be really glad to have Kapus and Shade Guy help me with this; I definitely could use someone to ask another opinion about things, especially since I want to keep the quality of the expansion up, even though my inclination is to be pretty lenient.

Um, I think the pictures are also broken for me, Blaze.

Are they the ones from this site?  I suspect they might have set it up to block direct-linking, somehow...

Also, I think stages for each Robot Master sounds pretty cool!  Though I'm pretty busy just now, I would like to try my hand at one if I have time later on.  :geek:

Bwaah!

Would anybody mind if I officially took over leading this expansion?  That way there would be a definite place to send stuff, and if you guys want I could start a separate topic and set up polls to resolve questions like "How will the weapons work?" that probably need an answer before anyone gets too involved in making the expansion components in question.  Plus things might run a bit more smoothly with active decision-making and such.

I would still need to ask a lot of opinions probably, since I don't feel confident enough to make too many dictatorial-type decisions.  Alternately, I could run it in tandem with someone else, like Shade Guy (or Kapus, except I don't think he wants to), if that might be better.  (Though of course they would both be fine running it by themselves if they wanted to, too.)

I would definitely be in favor of having at least one other person keep a copy of the expansion-so-far files, like Shade Guy suggested, so that if someone has to drop out everything's not all kaput.

Thoughts?

(Also, Metool, did you mean opinions about the hopping, like from the people you sent the skin to, or just about the sprites?)
