It's pretty easy.
But you need to hack your Wii to get the Homebrew Channel with a 2GB SD card and follow some nice tutorials carefully. Heck there are ways to get the Homebrew Channel without a game.

You don't need to softmod it though, that is the actual thing Nintendo looks for if you send a faulty Wii in. Homebrew Channel isn't illegal, but Nintendo doesn't like it either.

As for the Toon Link replacement model that I found......it still needs lots of work   I still love it though.
