My first racing game had to be a game called Gadget Racers, a decent rip-off of Gran Turismo with mini chibi cars and loads of upgrades. I never played racing games for a while after I lost the game, until I stumbled upon Gran Turismo 1 in a 3Xtreme case at a Goodwill. So, I was also buying a Playstation in the box, so I snuck the game inside the Playstation, and just bought it.
All the arcades I've seen have some kind of racing game in them, aside from those shooters and claw machines and stuff. I enjoy the arcade experience, for it feels like a real car, but instead of paying 50 dollars at some retail store for a game you can play with a bare controller or driving wheel, you've gotta pay it with quarters and it only gives you, like one race for just four quarters.
These driving games have been around since 1984, with Pole Position (right?), interest never really boomed until the whole driving-game craze in the late 90's/early 2000's with games like Crazy Taxi, GTA, Gran Turismo, Crash Team Racing and others, in my opinion.
Say, has anyone played Virtua Racing for the Genesis?
