The castle music from Super Mario Bros on NES (worlds 1-4, 2-4, 3-4, etc.) always used to scare me when I was a kid, like 6 or something. After I'd beat a X-3 level, Id turn it down so X-4 wouldnt scare me. Now it's my fave song in the whole game.

Also...this.

I don't have the gravity/crazy water/wave bikes on there, but it could be a lot of moving textures. I still feel like size is the major issue, so I'm gonna resize basically everything. Fun.  :ugeek:

Not a problem. Though I will say after comparing my maps to other maps I've either played on or looked at via DB2/Slade, size most definetly seems to be the issue here. Exhibit A:

Now all looks fine and well, I guess, but get this: Most maps I've seen via DB2 are around 10% zoom upon Fit to Screen. This one here is at 3%. Large much?

Note that this is a VERY unfinished map, hence the emptiness. Basically I just wanted to create the outer borders of the map and work inward from there. Also the idea I'm trying to go for is an underground area that processes corpses and scrap metal together, hence the...

Now as far as weapon/item placement goes, take a look at the first pic. See the brown rectangular areas on the top and bottom? See how each of those have four areas with 15 smaller sectors? Basically each of those have four big weapon energies, four big healths, two differing weapons, and an adaptor of some sort. Not to mention other items/weapons I have scattered throughout. Basically I wanted to have a wide availability of weapons and enough energy to back them up. I'm open to changing that if need be, though.

So that's basically it. I was wondering if there are any guidelines I should follow to keep lag from being an issue.

Help & Editing / WAD File Size?
« on: July 14, 2011, 01:35:33 AM »
So I've began making a couple maps to get familiar with...well, making maps.    I've picked up on a few concepts pretty well (for the most part) and managed to throw together some decent levels to me, anyways...

However, when I did a deathmatch test with full bots, I noticed some serious lag issues from time to time. And I've never had that happen with any of the other levels I've played on (not made by me), so the first thing that popped in my mind was that maybe the map file is too big. Thus, I extracted a map wad from a pk3 to get a good idea of what size a map is, which is around 150 kb. Then I took a look at the size of my map...which was around 1500 kb. So yeah, I learned something today...

I was just wondering if there were any tips or advice for keeping the file size at a decent amount (like a decent limit on weapons, room sizes, etc.) to keep this from being an issue. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

MahBoi, this peace is what all TRUE warriors strive for you could show us your favorites a few at a time, if that'll help.

Good point. Here's a couple off the top of my head. I'd list more but I'm in the middle of mowing the lawn something ATM.

Harro. Welcome to the land of Cutstuff! The restrooms are down the hall to the left, but you must pay a tax of 50 zenny, refreshments are available in the lobby for 280 zenny apiece, and if you have any questions, NEVER ASK THEM ASDFGHJKL Remember, don't be a fool here stay in school.  I would also like to inform you that my message is infact the longest, so therefor I am the victor! As the winner, I believe korby should relinquish his mammoth post count to me, as I am worthy of such mastery. :ugeek:
Inb4 this isn't actually the longest, and I'm rambling on about nothing here and/or this gets topped.
Why does zenny sound so familiar?
Also,welcome to CutStuff!
Zenny is essentially from Battle Network

And from Legends.

BTW, thanks again all!! :D
