Just out of curiosity, is there anyone here who is any good at making pttune music? I'm very much considering going the route of having 8bit versions of Rider themes this time around as an alternative to the huge file size of the regular songs, but I suck at music.

Good news, everyone! I found a program that will make it so that image edits of the newer releases are possible!

Resource Hacker allows you to open an exe file and look at pretty much everything in it via a very easy to use GUI. On top of that, it allows you to export certain resources. I was able to open up the latest release of Rockman 8 FC and export the image resources as bmp files. You can name it whatever you want when you export the file, just make sure you don't save as a Resource file, but as a bmp file. You can edit this in MSpaint classic or gimp or Photoshop, whichever program you prefer that will work within the color pallets/tables. I always recommend Photoshop or Gimp because you can change the color pallets/tables if you want, but I'm more familiar with Photoshop. Finally, save the file over, then go back into Resource Hacker, right click on the original file, and hit replace.

Things to note: They've changed the character sprites so they only have one direction face in the sprite sheets, which means half the work. But that also means walking back and forth is just an image flip, so no asymmetrical characters here. Another thing to note, they have changed background colors on some of the sprite sheets, so be aware of that if you're just going to copy and paste over from older sheets. Finally, in some image files, you'll notice there's a sort of darkening fade-out styling that repeats down the image. You can use FC Image Creator to replicate this, which can be found in Beta 2.89 and earlier. There are also cases of of lightening white-out stylings, those you'll have to do yourself.

Resource Hacker also lets you file icons, but I've had mixed results with this. Then again, I am running Windows 7, which may treat icons differently from XP. I'll put the files on an XP computer and see if this changes anything.

Ryu gives you: Tornado Kick (like Top Spin, but also does damage horizontally)
Arthur gives you: Steel Lance
Strider gives you: Long Blade
Joe gives you: V-Watch (slow down time)
Rad gives you: Bionic Arm (like Thunder Claw, but multi directional and can deflect standard shots)
Amaterasu gives you: Celestial Brush (short range strike, hitting bullets gives you screws, hitting enemies gives you large health or weapon energy)
Dante gives you: Devil Trigger (Demon form, more powerful buster)
Falcon gives you: Flying Barrage (double jump and mid range missile barrage)

Mega Man is informed that there are parallel worlds, and they're colliding toward destruction. In order to save all of them, he must defeat their heroes, gain their abilities, and use those powers to defeat the Shadow Empire, a conglomerate of all the villains from every world.

Worlds/heroes would include:
Street Fighter World: Ryu
Ghosts n' Goblins World: Arthur
Strider World: Strider Hiryu
Movie World: Viewtiful Joe
Commando World: The Bionic Commando - Nathan "Rad" Spencer
Okami World: Amaterasu
Devil World: Dante, son of Sparda
Power Stone World: Edward Falcon

Villains from each series will serve as enemies, mini bosses, and fortress bosses.

Centaur Man is supposed to take the place of Sagittarius, as Sagittarius Man would pretty much just be a rehash of Centaur Man anyway, unless I come up with another centaur-like Robot Master with completely different powers.

I know it's been done to bits, but here's my take on a transitional game to go from Classic to X series. I will be honest, I'm not 100% versed on Mega Man canon, so I tried my best with the hope that I didn't screw much up.
