MM8BDM Discussion / EvilTux's Server
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:59:51 PM »
Now I'm not one to usually advertise about join this server and what not, but I've noticed from time to time that there are people who will join on my server and play a bit.

I'm starting this post mainly because I want to point some things across so others realize. I'm running this server right out of my own home. I probably don't have the best speed right now for internet, granted it is cable, but I probably could use better for hosting things. The system itself is not in the best shape either. It's actually my old Gaming box until I've upgraded mine. It's actually using a P4 chip, which by the way things looked today, defiantly should be upgraded. RAM's probably decent but that could be bumped up as well (I believe it's at 2 gb).

I just wanted to point those two facts across because the "lag" one might feel is really a performance issue rather then actual lag. I do plan to upgrade some time here as I want to host other things as well, and it seems like I can only do one at a time if at all.

Anyway, for those who care to know why, now you know. Bear with me, it'll be better in due time.

Anything Goes / Introduction: EvilTux

Hello all! Where should I begin with this one...

I suppose I will start off by mentioning how AWESOME this game is. I wonder how the hell I haven't found this sooner. Being a man who was born and raised with the NES Saga, I am always quite the nostalgic person when it comes to gaming. It also helps that I've played the hell out of MM2 when I was growing up, was one of my favorites (only had and still have MM2 and MM3 for the original NES). When I somehow came across this game from a random chain of youtube videos, my first reaction was "what the hell?" Watched this one video and I instantly knew I have to check this out to see if it would be any good. Sure enough, I love it. Haven't played too much of the single player yet, only beat one and two, but still.

I was experimenting with my server box to see if it could support the multiplayer without an issue (old hardware, P4 at 2.8, 2gb RAM), as I suspect it shouldn't have an issue with the type of game it feels like. Had it up for about a week and seeing if any of my gamer friends from other games would pick up on this. Unfortunately no one seems to have, altho I see they have made comments on the video I've posted showing this game off. Tonight, I felt like playing a bit against the bots and get a feel for some of the maps, and to my surprise, some people started to join, which actually made me quite happy. I'm guessing that the first few people might have though there was others playing, but I only had bots at the time. Eventually I removed the bots and had around 7-8 people join, which actually made me feel good. I wish I got their names and see if I can see who they are on the forums, but they might pick up on me faster then I find them with this post.

Anyway, I plan to keep the server up at all times if anyone does want to join. If you want to directly join the server without looking at the server browser, just connect to jc104.dyndns.org. Granted my internet it not always the best at times, but if you want to see beforehand if the box is running, just type that link in your browser and you should get a page with things that's running on my system (along with other games that I have up for my other gamer friends, don't get me wrong I'm not advertising to join my server for those games, plus the minecraft server sucks due to my specs). Currently server is set to 25 frags, 10 minutes with bots on when it's dead. Unfortunately with my work schedule the way it is (8-5, M-F), I'm not sure if I would be able to remove said bots while in the office, but if I'm around and there's a decent crowd, I'll remove them when I can.

I'll try to browse these forums from time to time to see what's going on as I haven't been much of a forum person.
