The Ghoul's Forest / Re: So... GVHv2b10 ever getting out?

Thank you, CarThief - that is helpful information.

I'm willing to guess that a lot of them will be rather infuriated at this development.
Any hints on why they might be infuriated? And you, in particular? It is not my goal to alienate people - it happens inevitably - but there is only so much I can/am willing to do. I'm willing to try and make the transition as easy as possible on everyone though.

Cutman's DECORATE code doesn't look bad at all - in fact it's quite usable. The ACS code however needs a bit of tabs/spacing, but after that's done, it should look alright.

As far as upcoming changes, nothing is planned just as of yet. I really need to go through and find out what people want.

Also - I know balance is a huge issue here. From what little I've seen here there is a lot of discussion about needing changes. However, I am not really sure exactly what to do, how much to do it, or if anything I do will be overdone by anything else I do. I will be very careful about balance changes just like I was with AOW2. I have people on the team who can advise me of what needs adjusting, though if people start playing GvH on servers again we can all refresh our memories of what needs changing and put it on a list.

One thing I'd like to do - since it's December - is get a minor little graphic/sound swap and put Santa back in as the Engineer. I'd like to do it as an add-on so it can be simply removed after Christmas is over. I hope to have that done by the end of the week. People can also download a special file that makes this add-on optional if they'd prefer not to play with Santa (he'd just look like the Engineer again). Since it'd just be a graphic/sound swap, the changes that Santa underwent to become an Engineer would still apply to the new "Santa." It'd just be an Engineer with Santa graphics.

I'll take a look at the file myself, then. (Yes, I am brave/foolish/whatever you wanna call it)

--

Edit: The file contains no viruses, but until I hear otherwise from Cutman I am going to assume it is a non-legit copy. It seems some folks (perhaps even only 1 dude) took it upon themselves to make the changes they wanted to GvH without authorization from Cutman and add in some very low quality maps. The maps they added are small, as I've said before low quality, and under detailed.

I don't know what balance changes they've made but they said they've made a few.

Anyway, if you open the file your computer won't explode (I take no responsibility if it does anyway though). In my book it's nothing more than an IP infringement.

Yeah, I am really very dubious about this too. He asked me to update my server with it. I pretty much said nuh uh.

yeah i agree on that.

some players are not interested on forum of the game they plated.

i think it would be better if we make a role regarding with this.

stated that if the player doesn't visit its forum for a 1 week his account on the game will be deleted.

what did you think guys.
I hate to be such a harsh critic, but I agree with the poster above me.

This solves absolutely no problems and creates new ones. First and foremost, it can't even be enforced, because there ARE no accounts in the game. Secondly, what the person above me said.

If anything at all, the most that should ever happen, in my opinion, is the forums be a little (but not much) more aggressively advertised with the in-game hint messages. Other than that, the necessity simply does not justify the effort.

There are certain playstyles that suit some more than others.

I know that a lot of people (including CutmanMike) hate GVH TDM - however, there's a reason why it's still, even now, being played.

GVH has a much younger audience than ye olde Doom Mod - which of course is true of many popular Skulltag mods as well but GVH proves to be no exception. These people have the attention span of 5 year olds... TLMS is something they just simply don't want to wait for. TDM is much more fast paced, and to them more entertaining. TLMS is inconvenient because there's always that creeper that's camping somewhere in the middle of the map, or that dude that just won't stop AFK'ing. As a Skulltag dev, I can tell you, the only way you will appeal to these people is to keep them entertained for a longer period of time - and make it convenient for them. TLMS can be, and often is, very boring.

People want to PLAY, not wait for the creeper to finally get caught.

Check out the new skin DVGFX and let me know if it's better. Still not to my taste but better than that hardcore black/white one!
Works great - I am happy with this one. :) Thank you. :)

Yeah, and maybe a lighter background - just a gentler contrast.

Sorry, I don't mean to be so picky with this! o.o I'll just go hide now...

Yeah, I would have to agree there... it functions ok at least, but the high contrast isn't any easier on my eyes. o.o But it does look nice.

Wooot! It's nice. Thank you. :)

However, it appears that reply is broken. All I get is a blank screen when I try it. I had to switch back to subsilver to reply to this. From my experience with phpBB3, I'm guessing it could be a template error.

I am hoping this is not the wrong place to post this.

Anyway, one thing I really would like for this forum (for the few rare times that I ever visit it) is a white-on-dark skin. I have to be honest, black on white hurts my eyes, and it makes it harder for me to use this forum. And also, the forum default skin has too many closely related color blends which also makes it hard for me to use.

I'm not suggesting a whole selection of skins like DRD Team because that makes add-ons a nightmare to maintain, just one or two extra ones with dark backgrounds that are easier on the eyes. Something like proBlack might be nice. :)

Obsidian is updated.

I hope you don't mind, Cutty, but I uploaded it to Fathax so that it can be auto-downloaded if anyone tries to join the server. Filefront is just not friendly with that.
