Help & Editing / Re: Question about adding your own music...

Tip: If you want to replace the music directly, rename your files by the music you want to replace (check MM8BDM pk3 for names). For example: if you want to replace Cutman music by other one, in your pk3 rename your song by cutmus.

Hey thanks for that. I went home during my lunch break and attempt to directly change the music. What I wind up doing was this:

1. Extracted everything out of the PK3 file and actually put it in another folder.
2. In this case, I wanted to change the music in Dr. Light's lab. So I went to the corresponding WAD file
3. Using SLADE I went in and literally changed the music entry with MP3 that I wanted. I changed the name of the MP3 to match the original name.
4. After finished with that particular wad, I went back to the original pk3 file the game pulls its things from. Had to switch the extension pk3 to zip. Then copied the edited wad into the file. Then switched the zip back to pk3.
5. After that it seems to work.

Now my last question is this: my music change should not affect how multilayer works correct? I shouldn't cause people to crash nor should I have problems connecting to other servers yes?

Help & Editing / Question about adding your own music...
« on: June 27, 2012, 04:32:46 PM »
Now I am aware of the method spelled out by Ashley on how to add music to your map (which eventually requires you to go to console and enter "changemus x". I think I found a method that allows you to change your music here from this, but I read you aren't supposed to edit the .pk3 file that comes with this game. So my question is, how can you edit the music in the game so, by default, your music choice is played. And if you do this, will this affect how Multiplayer will work out (since you're not using the exact same .pk3 file as the other players in terms how music is played)?

Although I can guarantee online matches are a heck of a lot more fun. Bots can get really old after a while, plus you can make some good friends online.

That is very true, Gumba. That's part of the reason why I want to go play online mode. Thanks for all the help guys. When I get a chance I will sit down and setup Doomseeker (found the tutorial) and go online to a vanilla server to mess about.

Ok I think that was exactly the kind of answer looking for. I am aware there are going to be guys who are way better than others (it doesn't come as a surprise). Was just wondering if the Bot's AI would be generally rougher than even a good player (which you gave the answer already).

Thanks for that. Maybe I might jump on a Vanillia server sometime soon until I get used to the game (in which case I'll add all the mods and whatnot). Would anyone say going through some of the story mode be good preparation for online matches?

MM8BDM Discussion / Question...
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:14:32 PM »
I had downloaded this game not very long ago and played the Story Mode just to get a feel for the game (I am playing Doom at the moment as well) and I noticed sometimes the Bots can be really rough. My question is would there be more leeway on an actually online match (against actual online players)? I haven't really played Multi-player mode due to lack of confidence in my own skills. Not entirely new to the whole FPS thing so I don't mind getting my face pummeled in from time to time.
