The most unique Minecraft MMORPG experience
Yes, Wynncraft. The other day I decided to give it a try since my pseudo-God machine can actually run more taxing things. I was pleasantly surprised, and as I progressed, very impressed as well.
Wynncraft is not your typical Minecraft experience. Instead, it's an adventure-style map with MMORPG elements. When you first connect to one of Wynncraft's eighteen servers (through a lobby), you're prompted with a choice of one of four classes:
Warrior: The melee specialist. Excels at close-ranged combat and crowd control. Skills include an explosive hit and a dash. Attacks using spears.
Archer: The ranged specialist. Excels at ranged attacks, but suffers up close. Skills include a barrage of arrows and a super jump. Attacks using bows.
Mage: The magic specialist. Great support class, but damage output is less than stellar. Skills include healing and teleportation. Attacks using sticks.
Assassin: The stealth specialist. Attacks using stealth maneuvers. Skills include an area-of-effect attack and invisibility. Attacks using shears. (Donator-exclusive.)
Worry not, items and levels are consistent throughout all its servers.
From there, you're thrust into a large world full of amazing sights and powerful monsters. You rise from unconsciousness after your caravan to Ragni was damaged and the ride stopped. The driver prompts you to press onwards by foot, and explains your attack methods and spell (you only start with one). Once you arrive at Ragni and confer with its king, you set off to do as you please, be it complete quests, find loot, defeat terrible monsters, or socialize.
The world is a vast one, with countless unique landmarks. You'll travel across a great plain, creep through a dank forest, sail across a vast ocean, trek through a searing desert, and trudge through a bitterly cold forest. You'll find a canyon full of armed, hostile pigmen, countless ruinous sites from ancient times, and various settlements with unique inhabitants. All the while, you'll find hordes of both native monsters and undead beings of varying strengths.
The mechanics are also very different. Hunger is not done away with. Instead, it acts as your mana supply and lets you execute skills. This is done through three-click combos, allowing you to capably apply them in real time. This also negates the need to eat, as it regenerates on its own fairly quickly.
Emeralds are the world currency. These are found through fighting mobs, loot chests, and completing quests. There is a bank where you can convert them into emerald blocks or store important items in certain towns. To avoid your hasty and unproductive search, there is no bank in Ragni, so refer to the map if you need one.
Armor and weapons no longer have durability limits. You can use them as much as you like. Bows do not have arrow limits either, so fire away. As you progress, you'll find armor and weapons from merchants, mob drops, or loot chests (identifiable by sparkles emanating from them) and they come in four tiers: basic, unique, rare, and legendary. You can apply powders to these to add fire aspect, sharpness, or knockback on weapons and blast protection, thorns, or feather falling on armor. They cannot be removed, they're very rare drops from mobs, and only one powder can be on any piece of equipment, so use them wisely. Item Identifiers can add special qualities to unique, rare and legendary items.
You're also given 10 soul points (15 for donators). When you die, you lose two soul points and you return to the last major city you visited. If you lose all your soul points, you drop your items. However, soul points regenerate. Every Minecraft day, you regain one soul point, so it's imperative that you don't exhaust your supply.
As you level up, you can drop skill points into strength, dexterity, defense, intelligence, or agility. This can flesh out your class further and you can build it as you like. Completing quests and defeating monsters are great ways to gain experience. Forming a party with other players allots an experience bonus to each player, and experience is shared amongst the party.
No mods are required to connect. It's definitely worth your time to give it a try.
