I feel this would be a good time to mention that SKZ and I have been working on a similar project, except we weren't exactly limiting things to NES-only characters. We'd actually consider Gameboy characters or other characters from more advanced systems (with everything transformed to 8-bit style).
We don't have much, but what we do have are a few solid ideas (I'd rather not reveal them yet) and a fully complete class (The Guardian Legend's heroine).

Sooo, if a few others were interested in seeing a project likes this get off the ground, we'd be happy to work with them.

Very pleased to see Ike make a return. Since the newer Marth design looked kinda' Ike-ish and also since the custom moveset thing was being implemented I figured you could throw together a makeshift "Ike" out of Marth in custom games.

Personally, I dig that new design (never got to play Radiant Dawn). Love the big, bad-ass shoulder pauldron, drives the point home that he's more mercenary-like and war-oriented.

Earlier, I said that Ike was likely getting the boot and I'm so glad I'm constantly wrong about everything!

I see myself doing a mix of both. For me, I don't mind mixing things up competitively from time to time. I think the whole point of making everything Final Destination minus Items is to put all players on the same level and eliminate the chaos elements, making it truly Player vs Player, not Player vs Player vs Stage Hazards. From my perspective, it's actually kinda' fun to see how you measure up to other people and it's rewarding to see yourself get better and better at that.

That said, not everybody wants to do this continuously and it gets stressful after a while. That's where 'For Fun' comes in, it's more relaxed and crazier stuff happens. It's not a thing like "Oh, this mode is for casuals and this mode is for experts". It's just about what you feel like playing at the time or what you prefer to play in general.

Most games only give you one type of online experience and Smash4 is accommodating everyone in their playerbase. Even those kind of players that prefer makin' crap will get their slice of the online pie. If you play with friends there's the custom movesets and also I assume, the custom stages you've made all with options you can custom tailor to the match. This is also a further incentive for players to add people to their friend roster, too.

I mean, seriously. This will be the best Smash. I'm getting more and more positive.

I dunno, I actually think this would be more fair. It already climbs walls anyway but instead of actually climbing the wall it appears on the next level. This way it actually takes time to climb the wall the same way that search snake does. I'm all for it.

Let's see, a little Flame Blast and a bit of Water Wave and....voila! We got Wave Blast.

Fires in an arc and as soon as it hits the ground, wall or ceiling it bursts into a rippling tide of energy that scales along it.

To Kapus: Honestly, thank you. You brought up some points that removed my concerns. I never really followed Brawl during its early development stages, so I had no idea Yoshi wasn't announced early on.

To Watzup: I think we've all seen that crap.
"Keep Ganondorf in but make him not a clone." "Ridley's too big, he will never get in." "Jigglypuff/Lucario isn't relevant, replace them." "Little Mac is all punching moves, his moveset isn't varied enough for him to be accepted."

I think the fact of the matter is, they do what they feel is right and Sakurai's team is anything but predictable. There's only one other character I think is getting cut, I'm pretty sure they're doing what they can to keep the characters people have identified with and enjoy playing as. It just doesn't make sense to cut characters for those reasons.

Seriously, I'd be happy with all the characters making it, with a bunch of new characters joining in and new twists (but not outright changes) to every moveset. That's what I actually want to see.

Yes, I am having doubts about Yoshi making a return. He wasn't part of the original announcement and he wasn't featured in the early piece of concept art befooore that announcement.

I mean, it's just once piece of art and to my understanding it wasn't just artwork for Brawl but for the upcoming game. It just seems really strange that we haven't seen Yoshi yet...and with another character from the Mario universe showing up; well, it's possible we're getting Rosalina as a replacement.

edit: ninja'd over the Yosh thing :P
