This post will be a little experiment, more or less.
This is an awesome track from the 3rd game in the Ys Series (To be precise: "Be Careful" from "Ys III: Wanderers from Ys" / "Ys: The Oath in Felghana") . I posted 7 versions on 7 different systems below, with a small comment to each one of them. I'd like to hear opinions.
Note: This track is played in the first dungeon, a quarry infested with monsters.
PC-Engine CD/Turbo Duo version.
Pretty much the very best version of this track. CD-Audio.
PC-98 version.
Sounds clean but kind of empty. From the very first release of that game.
Genesis version.
Basically just better than the original PC-98 version in every aspect.
SNES version.
Just what. It does not loop correctly (in case you noticed, the intro does not get repeated on the other versions) and the instrumentation is a lot different, if not even ... unfitting. Definately a bad version.
NES version.
Actually pretty good. I'd love to see that used in mm8bdm in a mappack or so (hint hint). And it even loops correctly. (NES better than SNES, that is just strange.)
X68000 version.
Kind of weird-sounding. Maybe even inferiour to the SNES and PC-98 version.
PC remake version.
Awesome. Just awesome.
