You are wrong, Colonel Servbot.
The ozone layer blocks high-energy types of light like ultraviolet. It is waaay too thin to actually be able to do anything about asteroids. The only thing that protects the surface from asteroids is the fact that when an asteroid enters the atmosphere the friction of the air produces heat which makes the asteroid smaller. However, an asteroid with enough mass/volume will reach the surface regardless. And when it's big enough, bad things can happen (see: extinction of the dinosaurs, 65 Million B.C.)

I die so often in the first stage of many games (more than in most second stages even). The poor Reset button / Esc / F10 / F3 / Tab key ...
Also Ys Book I&II can easily cause funny and embarassing deaths due to the ... unorthodox combat system. I had quite a few laughs while playing it.
